Specialties

The Pelican Cove Bed and Breakfast features 10 rooms all with featherbeds, fireplaces, private bath and private entrance. A delicious full breakfast is served every day in our parlor, or you can take your breakfast to the sun deck or back to your room. We are walking distance to the beautiful beaches of Carlsbad and are happy to provide you with beach chairs, towels, umbrellas and boogie boards. The quaint Village of Carlsbad is also a short stroll away. Here you will find numerous unique shops and plenty of wonderful dining experiences. Once here, there is no need to get in your car again. You can walk to explore Carlsbad and take the Coaster train to explore other areas along the coast down to San Diego. Come relax with us!

History

Established in 1985.

The Pelican Cove started out as a small, four room Bed and Breakfast which was expanded in 1990 to include 6 more rooms. The current Innkeepers, Nancy and Kris Nayudu, have owned and operated the Inn since moving from Juneau Alaska in 1994. The Inn provided the opportunity for Nancy to be with her children while working from home. The wonderful guests that stay at the Pelican Cove have been a bonus that has made the last 16 years an extraordinary experience. There is no better place to live and work than Carlsbad.

Business Owner

Kris and Nancy Nayudu moved to Carlsbad from Juneau Alaska in 1994 when they purchased the Pelican Cove Inn as a way for Nancy to be able to be with the children (who were then 3 and 5 years old) while working from home. The Nayudu family has truly enjoyed living and working in the beautiful city of Carlsbad. The wonderful guests that stay at the Pelican Cove have made the Innkeeping experience and incredibley positive one.

I should have written this review long ago. My hubby whisked me away to the seaside for a long weekend for our Anniversary. This bed and breakfast was charming, romantic and close enough to walk to everything. We had sunrises and sunsets on the beach, dining, cocktails, dancing, sand at our feet. My favorite part of Bed and Breakfasts stays are the home cooked breakfast, which at Pelican Cove are delish!

This is the most wonderful place to stay. The breakfast is awesome. Nancy was so friendly & nice. She was very helpful. Will definitely stay here again. The bed was so comfortable. Slept great. Very quiet. Close to the beach. You will never regret staying here.

This place was wonderful! We had a quick night away from the kids and spent it at pelican cove. Nancy was wonderful! We literally walked in, shook hands and she showed us to our room. Along with showing us everything in our room she gave a wonderful recommendation for supper. Breakfast the next morning was wonderful as well. Only very slight down fall is the size if dining room. They make up for it by having plenty of dining spaces outside. We will definitely be returning!

The Pelican Cove Inn is the gem of Carlsbad. What a wonderful place to stay.
I have stayed in almost every room with my frequent visits to the area.
Nancy makes you feel like family!
Her breakfasts are to die for. She is so accommodating no matter what type of dietary needs you have she always goes above and beyond for the guests.
The rooms are all unique in style. My favorite is the Santa Barbara .
The short walk to town or the beach (2 blocks) makes this location ideal.

Nancy is just amazing. Always so positive and cheerful. The breakfast each morning was fabulous. Never the same thing twice!
She offered recommendations on places to go to eat, see or do.
If you plan on staying anywhere near Carlsbad, I highly recommend this place.
You will not be disappointed.

Stayed here for a week in the vacation house, it was wonderful! Nancy (the owner) was amazing! She answered any questions we had and was very accommodating. Location was great-​just a short walk to the beach, restaurants, and shops. Would recommend this place anytime-​hope to come visit again soon!

Words are not enough to tell you how amazing this place is. we arrived in town around noon, and called to ask if we could park at the inn and walk to the beach even though check in was not until 3. The owner not only said yes, but also said that we could come over and check in right away if we wanted. My husband and I were celebrating our five year anniversary. we have two kids, a two– year-​old and a five month old, and we were just staying away one night to relax. Our budget allowed us to stay in the smallest room with twin beds. The owner found out it was our anniversary and upgraded us for free to the pacific room which is one of the most expensive rooms they offer. It was like a dream. I had the best night’s sleep ever in the feather bed. It was like sleeping on a cloud. I could go on and on about this place. You need to check this treasure out.

This was my 4th stay here at this B & B. My latest stay was in the Balboa Room in July. I was woken up by the room next to me trying to open the inisde door from the connecting room. My bed everytime I moved squeaked really bad! I was then awakened at 2am from other people slamming their doors & talking really loud. It was a bad 2days. I am hoping this does not become a routine. I really like this place but because its so small you will hear your loud insensitive neighboors coming in at all hours of the night.
My only advice would be do something about your squeaky beds including the Laguna Room. I also do not want to hear your maids complaining about the owners & having to clean the blinds or that their quitting in a year to become a teacher. Please, not while im trying to enjoy my breakfast! Lets serve something besides the 2 pieces of ham all the time! Thanks

Are there any more stars that I can add to this page. Everything and I mean everything was top of the line. Nancy the owner is an incredible lady who runs this place with ease, charm and efficiency. Besides being a top notch cook to boot. The breakfasts were awesome. Freshest fruits, pancakes with pizazz, fresh toast stuffed with apples and whipped cream on top, Scotch Eggs with a creamy sauce. The rooms are amazing and each one a bit different. Very convenient to the beach about 2 blocks away. Close to town as well as the many rails in town which take you from San Diego to Oceanside. This was one of the best vacations we had in a long time. First of all Carlsbad is one of the nicest places along the coast of North County. Great restaurants, farmer’s market, in July the San Diego County Fair. Pelican Cove offers guests feather beds which you can put on top of your mattress. Hubby didn’t want it though I tried it and was so comfortable. I have not one negative thing to say about Pelican Cove. I would love to come back again in the future. Nancy also has a world of information about restaurants, things to do, train schedules. They have beach chairs, towels, umbrellas you can take to the beach. Also they have an outdoor shower so you can clean off all the sand before going to your room. You get a parking spot if you are a guest.

The owners are great people.
We are victims from the Carlsbad fire we were evacuated for our home and we were looking for a place to say last minute.
Even though we arrived at 11 PM The owner had everything ready for us and really take care of us.
It took thousand pounds of stress off me.
Knowing that we had a beautiful place to stay was such a relief.
They really take care of us we stayed in a beautiful room and I can’t describe how delicious the breakfast was!
It was so amazing.
We will definitely be back!

Words can’t even begin to express how happy I am with Nancy and our stay at Pelican Cove. My boyfriend kidnapped me and took me to my first ever bed and breakfast. I was beyond excited. I feel so spoiled because Pelican Cove was a top notch experience. Nancy was SO kind and was working really hard with my boyfriend to pull off this surprise. She even let him into the room early to decorate it for me. Not only that but she even had a bottle of champagne chilled and waiting in our room with a «Happy Birthday» sign. We stayed in the Carlsbad room. I LOVE this bed. Holy Crap! Seriously. I have never slept in a bed like this before. It was so so so comfortable. It was like sleeping on clouds. The climb up captains bed was so fun! We did have a mirror on the bed which was a nice added bonus. The room had beautiful antique and vintage pieces that were clean and matched the room. We had a wonderful bathroom and a cute little sofa. When I first met Nancy, she was like a ray of sunshine. She was so pleasant and nice. She immediately wished me a Happy Birthday and took into consideration my food allergies. She made it a point to go over the menu for the next morning to make sure I would be ok. Now the breakfast… whoa… that peach French toast was to die for. Oh I would for sure recommend that. My boyfriend and I were in heaven. We didn’t want to seem like pigs but when Nancy asked if we wanted more… I’m regretting we didn’t have seconds. Seriously. You MUST try the stuffed peach French toast. We were able to walk to a wonderful Italian place that Nancy recommended and didn’t need to use our truck at all. Nancy was so kind and treated us as family. It was her hospitality and her efforts to go above and beyond for us that made us feel so welcomed. You won’t be disappointed. I’m dying to go back.

My wife and I loved the ambiance. Near beach and downtown. The room we stayed is emasculate. We would recommend to family and friends. We had our Sunday morning breakfast in the backyard gazebo which was inviting and relaxing. Nancy is kind and friendly and makes you feel at home. Great couples getaway.

What a great place this is! Close to the village shops and restaurants; immaculately kept; friendly innkeeper… I could rapture for days and am only sorry we were there for just one night!
The rooms are lovely — clean and very nicely decorated. The water and chocolate nibbles in the room were very welcome after a long travel day. The feather beds are to die for! I never sleep well when we’re away, but I slept like a baby on this bed! The fireplace in the chilly morning air was very welcome. And that lovely soap in the bathroom — I took it with me and used it until it was gone!
Nancy made us a gorgeous breakfast and we were in heaven when the puppies came to visit us in the parlor (we were having puppy withdrawal on holiday).
The only thing I lacked (and this is not a downer or a deal-​breaker) was a coffee maker in the room. We woke up very early in the morning and realized there was no coffee maker. I’m a coffee-​hound when I first get up, so this was really the only thing I missed — and like I said — it’s only because we were awake before the birds.

Nancy.. . I can’t wait to come back and try the peach stuffed french toast – again.. . and all the other extravagant breakfasts you made during our stay. It was one of the most memorable vacations I’ve ever had because of the wonderful accommodations, and food, the generosity, and hospitality, oh, and the personal touches were amazing. We found your place by complete accident, and could not have found a better spot. The Balboa room was quaint, the feather bed was unbelievable, I couldn’t wait to wake up to find out what treat we were having for breakfast each morning, and the privacy was just right. Many of my friends are dying to experience what I’ve told them about our stay. I’m ready for a return visit! ! !

This is my first time staying here but it definitely won’t be my last! Besides an excellent location — close to the beach, shops & Coaster & bus lines — the thing that sets this place apart is the warmth and charm of the owner. Nancy goes out of her way to make sure your stay is extraordinary in every way — from the super-​comfy featherbeds to amazing breakfasts to help with anything & everything. Nancy was sweet, sincere, and very helpful. She was thoughtful about my gluten allergy and made all my meals specially. The feather bed was a dream and it was walking distance to the beach and into two. This was our mini-​honeymoon before my husband deploys and we couldn’t have picked a nicer spot!

I have actually not stayed at the Pelican Cove Inn myself, but my mom and her husband did while in town for my wedding. They are from Sweden and this was their first time in the U.S. Of course I was a little bit nervous about not having them at our house but we simply did not have room for everyone. They love staying at B&Bs back home, so I thought it would be a great experience for them. Everything turned out to be absolutely amazing, they had the best stay ever and I felt totally safe with Nancy taking such good care of them. They raved about the nice rooms and the breakfast every morning. The location could not have been better since they did not have a car to get around town, they could walk everywhere including to our house.
They have already told me they want to stay there the next time they come to visit so I guess I don’t have to make up the guest bed!
