History

Established in 2009.

After working for 12 years as the Artistic Director for the hollywood hair stylist José Eber, Jean Marc and his wife decided to open their own salon.

Located in Carlsbad, across the street from the La Costa Resort and Spa, the JMD studio aims to offer a tranquil, comfortable, and luxurious surrounding while offering the best hair cut South of LA.

From the beautiful seaside city of Marseille in France, Jean Marc comes from a long line of hairstylist. His grandfather, and his father before him have dedicated their livelihoods to delivering the best customer service and the best hair cuts available.

With a very solid reputation in France for delivering the best hair cut outside of Paris, José Eber offered him the possibility to work with him as his Artistic Director at the Four Season in Carlsbad.

After working together for 12 years, Jean Marc decided to go his own way and stay in Carlsbad with his family. Now he takes on the new challenge of opening his own luxurious hair styling salon.

If you want to get a haircut tailored just for you then you must go to Jean Marc’s salon. I had my haircut from Jean Marc, and he didn’t just ask me how short I wanted, or the basic questions you usually get asked. He asked the best questions to enhance my looks, and fit my lifestyle. I loved the attention to detail, not only from the haircut, but the overall experience. They offered me a beverage and took care of my sweater when I first came in. I highly recommend Jean Marc and his team! They’re the best!

Jean Marc and his team are just absolutely wonderful! From the moment you walk in you feel catered to and special. They immediately offered me a beverage and asked if there was anything else they could do for me. They made me feel very special and welcomed.
Michele did some of the best coloring I have ever seen. She did an amazing job and made it look so natural. The washing station was also one of the most comfortable chairs I have sat in at a salon which made it so much better.
Jean Marc then handled my hair with so much love and care. He asked me so many questions to get to know me before he began cutting. He cut just at the right length I wanted and added the best layers to give my hair some bounce. I was very pleased with the work they did and would highly recommend this salon to anyone!

I’m so happy that I found Michele & Jean Marc.
She nailed my color on the first shot.
(Dark to very dark, but not black, and cover those Greys)
And he cut my hair better (& shinier) than it’s been in years.
They were able to accommodate me on very short notice.
There were no pushy upsells for product, extensions, «you must book now to come back in 8 weeks» type BS.
Just personable, talented, witty professionals who do a fantastic job.
And I love their decorating style.
For comparison– I’ve been to bryll & pistachio for about 5 cuts/​10 colors each, and they did ok to good, sometimes very good.
I had «A Guy» for 10 years in NYC & I’ve been struggling to find a replacement since moving to North County.
Pretty sure I’ve found them.
Life is too short to be unhappy with your hair.

This review is for color, highlights and lowlights by Melody. I get my hair cut at another salon with a good friend, so I can’t comment on the other stylists at this salon though they seem to do a great job too. Melody is the best! I’ve been going to her for about four years now and always get compliments on her work. She’s a true artist and her choices are very flattering to my skin tone. I’m not very good at giving her direction so I really appreciate her expertise and how comfortable she makes me feel. She has a wonderful, warm way about her. My mom, who has a different skin tone and hair color than me, goes to Melody before big trips or special events and has had the experience. I’ve used Unilocal for years but just started leaving reviews. Hope this helps someone!

This review is for haircuts by Richard. I have lived in San Diego, Los Angeles, and currently in New York. I’ve had my long, thick, curly hair cut by the top stylists in those cities, including at the flagship Ouidad salon in New York. No one ever has given me as good of a haircut as Richard does. When you ask to «keep the length» he actually keeps the length while cleaning up the ends and shaping the layers. I love his haircuts and I love his demeanor. I save my haircuts for whenever I am in town and I highly recommend seeing him if you have the luxury of living in San Diego.

I recently had Tony cut my hair at the Jean Marc DeAngelis salon. Just watching him go about the cut was quite impressive and he always asked me first if what he was about to do was okay. He is a true artist who manages to combine his ideas with ideas of your own to create a truly beautiful mane of hair. Go to this salon and ask for Tony. You will not be disappointed!

I’ve been associated with the people at this salon for a few years (when they were with #JoseEber at the Four Seasons in Carlsbad). They opened this establishment & I travel from Escondido ever so often; I wouldn’t be able to get the quality anywhere else. My hair always looks amazing when I leave & thereafter. I’ve never been disappointed and my stylist, Melody Neider, always knows and understands what I want. Lord knows what I’d do without her. Worth every penny.

I’m a customer at this salon to see Katie. She is fabulous. I actually followed her from another salon.
Katie has been doing my hair for over 2 years now. She fixed a bad haircut and color for me and did an amazing job. My natural color is dark blond and Katie gives me a very light blond color. She uses a color technique that makes the growout very moderate, so there is no clear line. It means I don’t need to go as often, so my hair stays in better condition. She is a perfectionist and a professional.
The salon is beautiful, and the staff are very attentive. I would say the Unilocal comments about the owner accurate, but Katie is definitely the reason that I keep going.

This review is for Sandi, the aesthetician at the salon — I have not tried the hair services but have an appointment set up in a few weeks!
I am SO happy to have discovered Sandi! It has been ages since I’ve had a facial and I’ve been wanting to get into a more regular routine of doing so. As luck would have it, my husband told me that the wife of one of his coworkers had a salon, so I looked it up — and even luckier for me, her new location is just down the street from our home — SCORE! I had a Custom Facial this afternoon and it was utter bliss… ahhhh! The salon itself is gorgeous, so pristine & modern & clean and the facial was just wonderful — I feel so pampered and refreshed and have already booked my next appointment and plan on having them as regularly as possible — THANK YOU Sandi!

I love this salon. I feel like I’ve finally found a place that really knows and cares about what they are doing and they do it great! Katie does my hair and I always get compliments. She is great at both cut and color and she is amazing at styling too, which really tells me she understands hair. I have only seen great haircuts in the salon and it truly is a needle in a haystack.
Everyone that works there is nice and professional. I feel like I have been looking for years to find a place like this!

I have been going to Judy for color and Tony for my cut for a few months now. I was there this week and it just gets better. They really have got to know my hair and what I like. Being able to take care of it myself is important and they get it. I get so many compliments now and I my «blond» hair is in the best condition since I was a teenager.

Jean Marc is like a needle in a haystack. Since I’ve moved to San Diego back in 2006, I haven’t been able to find a great stylist until now. Jean Marc listened to what I wanted and made it happen. I enjoyed watching Jean Marc cut my hair and talking to him in the process. I now found my stylist so no more searching and ending up with a bad haircut. Thanks Jean Marc!!! Not only did he cater to my needs, but his staff was kind enough to watch my boys (ages 2 yrs and 9 mos) while I was getting my haircut. Jean Marc’s wife was even successful at putting my 9 mos old to sleep amid all the noise. The service is great and stylists are wonderful.

Not only did I leave the salon with beautiful hair, I had a great time. I felt like a princess and was spoiled rotten by Jean Marc & Michelle. The entire staff was friendly and accommodating. Jean Marc is the highest priced salon in the area, but if you need to reliably look great, there is nowhere else to go. To save cash, I’ve gone elsewhere, but keep coming back to Jean Marc when I need to be fixed right, and look my best. You get what you pay for…

I have been going to Jean Marc and Michelle for years. Every single hair cut and every single hair color have been perfection. I get compliments on both my color and especially my hair cuts literally every where I go. It seems like Jean Marc cuts every single strand of hair mulitple times each visit, creating a masterpiece rather than just a hair style. I don’t even bother saying what I want any more I just let them do what they do best… make me look fabulous. They always keep up on the styles and change my cut slightly over time so that my look never gets tired and out dated. Everyone at the new salon is friendly and gracious and makes the overall experience feel special. If I ever move out of state I will have to add airfare in to my hair budget as I can’t imagine anyone else ever making me look as good. My hair is the one expense that my husband never complains about… he loves the result as well. The cost is worth it!

Jean Marc and his wife Michelle are amazing. I’ve been going to their salon since the day it opened over a year ago in Carlsbad. Prior to that, I saw them every three weeks for eight years at the Jose Eber Salon in the Four Seasons Resort. And their new salon and spa is actually nicer than the Four Seasons. It’s like stepping into a beautiful Parisian establishment.
The rest of the team — from the esthetician to the manicurist to the amazing support staff — are incredible.

I have been going to Melody for many years and Richard for at least 1 ½ years. I have been going to see Melody and Michele (colorists) since they worked at the hair salon at the Four Seasons.
Melody, and Michele, are wonderful with color. I get compliments on my color all the time. They don’t do cuts, just color, and I have always had a better result going to hairstylists (even at other salons) who specialize in either color or cutting rather than both.
Richard has a great deal of experience cutting hair (he doesn’t do color) and is very precise in what he does. His hair cuts and blow drys are fabulous. I have always had confidence in his ability and, I believe, his prices are very fair.
I drive a long distance to this salon because Melody and Richard do such a great job and the salon has a nice atmosphere and is very tastefully decorated. They always offer me coffee, tea, wine, etc… sometimes they even have little treats. I enjoy coming here very much and will be coming for a long time despite the distance.

Melody is the one to go to for color… she has an innate talent and knows how to make you look good… she has been coloring my hair for five years and I love the natural way my hair looks… with an added punch for highlights and shine.
I highly recommend Richard for his way with scissors… he is very very good, and I’m extremely particular about my haircuts. I have wavy, curly hair and he cuts it perfectly… I can let it dry naturally, or diffuse it, and my hair looks and feels great.
The salon is very chic and comfortable. I would recommend it to everyone.
