I have been teaching surfing to neighborhood kids and friends since I was a teenager and it is time to give back to surfing as it has given so much to me.

My name is Richard Fox. I grew up in Carlsbad California and attended all Carlsbad schools. I am the father of two wonderful boys named Reef age 9 and Tide age 7. Teaching surfing has always been a passion for me. Giving back to surfing is why I started spreading the aloha of getting people in the ocean surfing. «Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.» This quote is what Fox Surf Lessons is all about!

We had a great time learning to surf with Richard! We had a two-​person 90 minute private lesson and Richard did a great job working with both us to catch a ton of waves each in the time period. He provided us with boards and wetsuits at no extra cost which was awesome and we were both able to standup on the bigger of the two boards. It would have been great to understand a little better how to catch the right waves myself (he mostly did all the work for us) but hopefully he can teach us that next time :)

I had been surfing for three months before realizing that I was in desperate need of a surf lesson. Richard, the instructor, was very encouraging and gave pointers on how to position on the board and paddle effectively. Right after the lesson, I decided to hit the surf on my own, and lo and behold, I caught more waves than I ever had before. Thanks Richard!

Richard somehow managed to get my 2 boys, 7 and 9, not only into the water, but absolutely loving surfing! My 9 year old is out the back catching waves with so much confidence after only 5 lessons. He is trustworthy, has just the right amount of instruction, and most of all, makes it FUN. I’d highly recommend him as a surf instructor for all ages.

My two teenagers took surf lessons today and did awesome! Each one was able to get up three or four times during their first lesson. We are starting monthly lessons and the kids are super excited. They both had a great time and are looking forward to the next one!

Richard is a great teacher-​he stays calm and makes everything fun! He taught two teenagers I had out for the summer. I was amazed by his ability to glide through the water and work with both at the same time. They had a blast and were successful. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a fun surf session.
