We love Souza. It’s been a family tradition for us, whenever we are in Capitola, we must have Ice Cream from Souza. My son and daughter love this place, the staff is always very friendly and helpful when we visit. It’s a popular place often with a line but that’s where I want to eat, the full restaurant, the ice cream shop with the long line. Like they say«never trust and empty restaurant.» Capitola is a small, busy, beautiful place! Enjoy the sea and the sunshine with your favorite ice cream and the best waffle cone ever! Once we dropped a cone just after leaving, my son was so upset, he was only 7 years old them. We went back in to buy him another ice cream cone, it was his fault after all. The owner Christine was very kind and polite to us, she gave my son another cone free of charge! Made my day and his! Thank you, Sauza for being such a fun, friendly, delicious part of our community. We love you and will keep coming back to visit you and beautiful Capitola!
This was one of my favorite ice cream ice cream spots when I was younger. I was feeling nostalgic and raving to my boyfriend about it while in Monterey. Since they don’t have set hours posted online, I called to see when they would close. The customer service was absolutely horrible! The lady who answered the phone sounded awful. She answered with a long, «Yesssssss» as if I was bothering her. When I asked her hours, she sighed and said, «Ugh, I don’t know. Whenever I get tired. Maybe 5.» Horrible business practices! Just lost another customer.

I’ve been generous to even give one star. Horrible drinks and Costomer service was a nightmare. Have obviously never heard the term the customer is always right. A family in front of me was yelled at by the woman who seemed to be the owner for wanting to switch their order. Waited for roughly half an hour because there is only one ice machine. Very overpriced do not recommend. Do not waste your money

Why isn’t there negative stars on here? These people should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. Normally I complain about ice cream that is $ 3.50 a scoop or $ 5.00 for two, but I understand that this a beach resort and this should be expected. But prices like that usually mean a pretty decent size scoop. The single scoop seemed to get lost in the bottom of the $ 1.75 waffle cone. Seeing what we got in two singles and a double in waffle cones for $ 17.25 was disappointing. But what they should be ashamed of is not accepting credit cards. What kind of business in this day and age does not accept credit cards? If they were some back country place with two customers a day, I could see it. But this is a busy beach resort, and they should accept credit cards accordingly. They have a nice little slap-in-the-face of an ATM machine in there that will help eat up your cash with the fees. My daughters were upset when I announced we would not go back in there, since they wanted to try a smoothie or something else the next day. But lucky for me we found the Village creamery at the other end of the street. Not only do they take credit cards, they have 35 gourmet locally made flavors, smoothies, and also sandwiches etc. Even have tables and chairs. Here’s some simple math to help your choice: Souza’s scoop = meager Village scoop = large Souza’s single = $ 3.50 Village single = $ 3.00 Souza’s double = $ 5.00 Village double = $ 4.50 Souza’s waffle cone = $ 1.75 Village waffle cone = $ 0.50

Crowded, unfriendly, and not that good.

If I could give this place a zero I would. Along with majority of people on here, my family and I had to worse customer service experience at this ice cream shop. There was an older lady, possibly the owner who was so rude and could careless about helping people out. She kept looking at the line and sighing. If you don’t want to be at work or care about your customers, don’t go to work. My family and I should have gone down the street because they probably appreciate their customers. Total thumbs down on this place

It’s what you’d expect from a run-of-the-mill ice cream shop. They sell store bought ice cream and candies at okay prices. There’s not much indoor seating and it’s cash only. When we went, we were served by a friendly ice cream scooper. It’s alright for a quick sweet bite.

I went down to Capitola for Father’s day and our server was awesome but the other so called server named Shilo the mouth of Capitola. There is a kine going out the door about 10 plus people in front of us either still ordering or paying and this rude chick that probably takes after the owner is telling us to pack it in because she can’t have lines going out the door. I tried to explain to her we are still ordering and the two families in front of us are still ordering, she preceeded to talk right over me. So, of course I ignored her but then she preceeded to have other behind us cut right in the middle. of our order. So, when I asked for the manager the person taking our order said she isn’t here, so I asked the number to contact her and her name Christine by the way. Rude Shilo, said go right ahead and call her she would LOVE hearing from you… hahaha… so this rude Capitola girl is going to have a rude awakening when he high school career is over and still serving ice cream cones into middle age because she can’t get a job anywhere with lack of customer service. Christine the manager who doesn’t care about rude service from mouth of Capitola Shilo can be reached at 18318401379. We will be going down the street next time for some real good ice cream. Souza’s Ice cream in Capitola is a no go. Just sayin.

I had such a bad experience I decided to write a Unilocal review, but saw that everyone else had the same experience. Angry older women, high prices, mediocre store bought ice cream. NOT even close to worth it.

One of the best fresh-baked waffle cones I’ve had: very fresh and crisp, not at all chewy(as cones get when slightly stale or humid). Ice cream was good, but not the best: almond praline and mocha almond fudge. The woman(proprietor mentioned in earlier reviews?) was perfectly pleasant to my group, all ordered different things and the line was to the door, but we didn’t feel rushed.

Enjoying the first day of summer but sadly the women behind the counter felt the need to be rude to one of our girls and accuse her of not having manners. Seriously, who does she think she is?

My friend really talked this place up so I had high hopes. He also said they usually have a line out the door. So I thought this place was super popular and good. But maybe we got really lucky. There was no one in the place. Though it was a semi-hot day and there were a lot of people on the beach nearby. So we were able to look around and decide on what we wanted. They serve lots of flavors of Dreyer’s ice cream. I ended up with strawberry cheesecake ice cream. The one bright spot was they make their own waffle cones, in house and fresh. The whole place smelled like waffle cone. Mmmm. So of course we all had to get it the waffle cone. It was definitely the best part. And then we took the ice cream to go to stroll along the beach. I could see parking to be an issue here though. Like near any beach, parking is at a premium. We were lucky and able to get like 20 min/short term street parking spot pretty quickly. But yeah even on a Sunday, we had to pay. And they have some lots too for all day parking.

This was the most awful ice cream shop we have ever been too! Like the other 63 reviews, the older brown/gray woman, possibly owner, was the angriest person we’ve ever encountered… if life is that miserable you shouldn’t be selling ice cream at the beach lady… Do yourself a favor… go to Safeway and buy the Dryers ice cream this place is serving or better yet go down the block to a real ice cream shop with local made ice cream.

First up, inconsistent hours. For every five times I passed by The shop, four times they were closed, and the village was packed on a sunny day. Frequently joke with my social company, «they are only open in the worst of circumstances. It needs to be a Tsunami warning, and in the middle of the night.» Second up, ATM only. Get with the program. That’s so 1980s. I enjoyed the birthday cake ice cream flavor, but the ice creams were covered in frost shards, as if they had been sitting there a very long time. Taste like baby seal tears. The Capitola Village has another ice cream shop at the other stop sign. I give them a five star! They serve Mariannes ice cream milkshakes! They take credit cards! They have burgers too. Geisha sustainable sushi is up above Souza — I give them a five stars! Might I recommend eating up there? The young staff are friendly. That save them from getting a 1 star. The older staff, they definitely don’t want to be there and you can tell.

Terrible customer service. The guy working there(big meathead type) had to ask my boyfriend and I TWOTIMES what flavor ice cream we wanted. I’m sorry, is it that hard to remember ONE thing?! Then on top of his incapability of serving two cones of ice cream the total came to nearly $ 12, for two single scoop cones! My boyfriend made a lighthearted and joking comment about the price and the meathead totally went off on us, yelling at my boyfriend saying he was stupid and whiney for complaining about the price. Too bad so many unsuspecting tourists come here… we work right down the street and will never ever return or recommend this terrible establishment.

A woman in her mid 50’s was the most miserable of beings I’ve ever encountered. She shoved us aside as we were ordering, then told her feble mined cashier to charge us double! I would like to start a gofund me to get this bitch out the game, pay your taxes so she claim her social security benefits and fucking retire already!

Would give a zero if I could. All ice cream was Dreyers which would be okay. I had hot fudge on mine. It was same consistency as syrup. Owner said it was because it was so hot. Well, when it got very cold from the ice cream, it was still very liquidy, nothing like hot fudge. One block away and you can get rich ice cream and thick, hot fudge sauce at reasonable prices. First and last time I will ever go here.

The woman at the cashier(brunette, in her 50s-60s) is the rudest, most unpleasant person I have ever encountered for customer service. I asked her where the trashcan was and she barked at me that it was outside. If you have sample spoons, shouldn’t there be one inside the store? She then yelled at me to hand them over and wouldn’t let me take them out myself. I was also disappointed by the ice cream. For a place that sells mediocre Dreyer’s, it sure is pricey. Never going here again.
