As to the smoking: I just moved to SE Missouri and it’s an awful thing I’ve had to get used to. Most restaurants here still allow smoking or have smoking sections, so it’s difficult to get away from completely. The ambiance is confusing and weird, but the food is really good! I’ve only been a couple of times but we always get the Pig Nachos. They must make their own tortilla chips and spice. I have also had the avocado burger and bacon burger, which are also really good.

This place is a tiny hole in the wall! But the food is great and the live music rocks! Don’t be scared! Go on in and have a meal and listen to some great jams!

My sister recommended this place as it’s a popular place to visit along the riverfront of the Mississippi. We walked in and see the ice cream parlor and two little pig statues. Our girls were obsessed with these pigs. Our service here was slower than I’m used to. However the rolls with strawberry butter distracted me enough where I wasn’t really annoyed by it. I had the sweet tea(of course) which was nice and sweet(a tad too sugary than what I’ve been used to). I ordered the pulled pork and pimento cheese with the belaires(which is a staple here think twice mashed potato with cheese). Everyone else ordered ribs with a side and were very happy with their order. The kids all ordered sweet tea, mac and cheese as the side to their cheese pizza. The kid’s meal is HUGE! There are plenty of things to choose from here again the two things to try is the strawberry butter with your rolls you get and the belaires. Fantastic.

So most of the reviews on here state that it took forever to get their food. So let me first state that I went to this restaurant at around 130 and I was only 1 of 3 tables inside, so I did not have a wait. I had a very enjoyable experience. I ordered the grilled chicken with baked beans and macaroni and cheese and it was really good. The staff was very friendly and even though they did not have a scenic view of the river, it was very well kept inside. Out of the four meals that I had in Cape, this one was the best one. Also, the strawberry butter for the rolls is amazing.

I found this place very confusing. There are two entrances. One has the good menu on the website but is full of smoke and not the good kind. The other seems to be smoke free but the menu there is just burgers. So if you want a steak that isn’t served in an ashtray you’ll have to look elsewhere.

Husband loves this place, and I’m about a 3. It’s a cool place to go downtown by the river, but living in Jackson — I rarely want to drive that far for the food. Husband loves the wings and catfish. Kids love the ice cream. :)

I never through I would say this about Port Cape, but stay away. I had the Pulled Pork Sandwich on a bun and half of the pork was fat all in one lump. I asked to show it to a manager but there was no manager on duty during Sunday lunch. The«new» fries were not that good either.

Cool little spot across the street from the Mississippi River. However, don’t go expecting scenic river views, as this is a smaller corner location without a ton of windows and an atmosphere somewhere between casual classical and dive bar. That said, dinner can easily be finished with a short walk across the street to find that elusive beautiful river view. The night we came they had a southern dinner buffet starring ribs and mashed potatoes, which received raving reviews from everyone in our party who ordered it. Personally, I was craving wings and went with that, and although they weren’t the greatest wings I’ve ever had, I still left satisfied. Service was great and I believe the owner stopped by our table a few times to double check we were enjoying ourselves. Definitely seems like a well run place where you can’t go wrong.

Omg the food was delicious. Their strawberry butter is extremely delicious and the ribs were delicious. The prices were great and service friendly. I recommend this place to anyone. Definitely will be back if I am passing by Cape.

We happened upon this restaurant on a drive back from Memphis. Very nice relaxed atmosphere and VERY good food! Their burger was good, their bbq was good, and our waitress was as friendly as can be. We will visit again!

This easter egg was omitted from my visistor’s guide, but it’s getting my dinner bell endorsement. Took a stroll in the belly of Cape Girardeau and walked by the stretched out mural. Some 1,100 feet long, the flood wall depicts some of Miss-o’ defining moments. Take a walk over to the start of the timeline there, it’s where you’re gonna find Port Cape. Now most joints you go to there is one door, and someone waits to greet ya on your way in. Kind just walked in ya know, took a seat. Now they got a nice bar and pull-screen tv, but concerning my newfound concern for chronic bronchitis, I went to the other entrance Found my way to the main entrance where we were informed of a satiating buffet. They weren’t kidding! Plate in hand, I became spellbound with the options there. Let’s start with the basics — cheesy potatoes, steamed zucchini. Now you couldn’t go to this here buffet, without getting some type of animal. That it unless you’re jashian or observing animal independance. They got all the flavors of a summertime roast –chopped pork, fried/roasted chicken, and cumin flavored beans. Took it all in, a little or a lotta of each item, and got to say I was feeling more than alright. Some highlights — well, I thought the oaky roasted barbecue sauce was magnificent. With that sauce, I had enough meat to last me the entire trip. The service is good, the history is legit, check this one out would ya.

This place is as Cape Girardean as Cape Girardeau itself. It is on the river, it is old, it has a wonderful historical story to tell, there is great music several times a week, the service is friendly and fast, and and the regulars(a.k.a. some of the best people in the world) really know how to party. Come to eat. My favorite thing on the menu is the half barbecue chicken, although the prime rib(there’s a deal on Saturdays I believe) is a close second. You have to get the broccoli salad and the potatoes are RIDIC. Also, try the hand-dipped ice cream. Come to drink. Saddle up to the bar during happy hour any day of the week and you will make friends for life. I have never been to a more congenial bar, and that is saying A LOT, especially considering that I now live in New Orleans. Doc runs a fantastic business. Viva Port Cape!!!

In general I enjoyed Port Cape and its food but with mixed feelings. I visited Port Cape on a Saturday night for our grandparents’ anniversary. The restaurant called the day before and said they overbooked our room but they did reserve a long table for us. It took a long time before they took our food orders so I ordered a hot chocolate, which was served as hot water, a spoon and a packet of mix; how tacky to use water and a mix and then have me mix it to top it off. The appetizer, fried zucchini, was great, though. My entrée, Gala Salad, was great at first. However, as I continued eating the over-dressed salad’s lemon vinaigrette dressing, pooling on the bottom of the plate, became hardly bearable in sourness, which is when I noticed they didn’t put the Gorgonzola cheese on it which I believe would have made the sour pleasant. My baked potato was cooked perfectly, and my husband loved hit barbecue sampler. In fact, others raved about their meat entrees. However, everyone agreed that the sides(macaroni and cheese, seasoned curly fries, straight French fries, broccoli salad) were not well seasoned and underwhelming, even not good. Furthermore, the menu didn’t state there was pork in the broccoli salad nor that mayonnaise was its base, either of which would have suggested to us we order something else; no staff member offered to replace it. Now that we know what to expect, though, which is a bit less than what the price and reputation warrant, I’d still go back again.
