Specialties
SIRIUS group classes are for dogs of all sizes & ages, as long as the pups are friendly with other dogs and people. Courses consist of 5 sessions & meet for 50 minutes each week. Advanced registration through our website or over the phone with our office is required.
SIRIUS emphasizes the importance of teaching bite inhibition, early socialization, temperament training, & simple solutions for common & predictable behavior problems, as well as basic household manners. Things regular people need to know to live happily with their dog.
Moreover, Sirius champions user-friendly & dog-friendly dog training – specifically, that training should be as enjoyable for dogs as it is for owners, and that training should only involve quick, easy & effective methods that are within the capabilities of all family members, especially including children.
At Sirius we launch dog stars, friendly, safe, well-mannered members of the family.
History
Established in 1982.
Sirius features user-friendly & dog-friendly dog training – specifically, that training should be as enjoyable for both dogs & owners, & that training should only involve quick, easy, & effective methods that are within the capabilities of all family members, especially including children.
The Sirius puppy training video – the all-time best-selling, & the very first dog training video ever produced – helped spread the word about fun and games dog-friendly dog training. Sirius was also adapted for television with the show «Dogs with Dunbar». Thanks to Sirius, puppy classes are now taught all over the world.

Meet the Business Owner
Ian D.
Business Owner
Veterinarian, animal behaviorist, and dog trainer, Dr. Ian Dunbar received his veterinary degree & a Special Honors degree in Physiology & Biochemistry from the Royal Veterinary College (London University) plus a doctorate in animal behavior from the Psychology Department at UC Berkeley, where he researched the development of social hierarchies & aggression in domestic dogs.
He has authored numerous books & DVDs about puppy/dog behavior & training, including AFTER You Get Your Puppy, How To Teach A New Dog Old Tricks & the SIRIUS Puppy Training video.
In 1982, Dr. Dunbar designed & taught the world’s very first off-leash puppy socialization & training classes — SIRIUS Puppy Training. Subsequently, he created & developed the San Francisco SPCA’s Animal Behavior Department, the American Kennel Club’s Gazette «Behavior» column, which he wrote for seven years, & the K9 GAMES, which were first held in San Francisco in 1993 & continue as annual events in Japan and France.
