The Red Power Divas is a walking/​running support group where members are educated and encouraged to make informed decisions about their health, safety, and well being while seeking balance. Since 2007, membership in this inspirational group has grown from just 58 members to nearly 1,600 women (Divas), men (Divos), children (FitKidz), and seniors (Golden Diva/​Divos). Our philosophy is simple: No fees, no fundraising, no guilt! In this group, you will find a solid network of support, where everyone is welcomed and encouraged. Our program allows each person to participate as much or as little as they can fit into their lives. It’s all about seeking balance.

History

Established in 2007.

Founded in May 2007 by Sharon Chatman — Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge and founder of the nonprofit agency Building Peaceful Families (www​.build​ing​peace​ful​fam​i​lies​.org) — the Red Power Divas is a motivated group of women (Divas), men (Divos), and children (FitKidz) dedicated to seeking balance, supporting one another, and living active, healthy lives. When our first season started, the Divas membership included about 60 people of all ages, shapes, sizes, and fitness levels. Today, our membership is nearly 1,600 strong. Everyone is welcome to be a Diva/​Divo!

The Red Power Divas is an incredibly supportive group for walkers and runners of all levels of fitness. And unlike most other groups, there is no fee to join and become a Diva or Divo. The lead, Sharon, is very inspirational and welcoming. Come out some Saturday morning and check it out!

This will be my 5th year with the Divas — it is by FAR the most welcoming, accepting, positive group I’ve ever been around. The Divas mantra is Seek Balance and the philosophy is that everyone is an athlete — not matter what your age, size, or ability. If you get up and move — consistently — then you’re an athlete. I can’t think of any activities that have had a more profound impact on my life than joining the Red Power Divas. Getting up for a 7:30 workout on a Saturday morning isn’t fun, but it’s so completely worth it.

The Red Power Divas is the BEST. They accept all levels of fitness, shapes, and ages. Everyone is there to help each other succeed in a 5K, 10K and half marathon. It’s fun and beneficial for anyone wanting to walk or run with a group and it’s free! Plus you can bring the kids!

Joining red power divas was not only the best thing for me but for my family as well. I think my favorite is the fit kidz program. My kids simply love it. They will go with the kids coach and have met so many great friends there. The races, raffles and water balloon fights keeps them excited. It’s really teaching my kids to love fitness. And it’s FREE to join so who doesn’t love that?

Before I found the divas I was trying to get healthy and back in shape after having two children back to back. The red power divas actually found me on the Campbell trail. I didn’t even know any of them as I was running with a friend and they were cheering me on when i was trying to sprint up that short steep incline part of the trail by the bridge. :) It just so happenend we were looking for a running group to start running more often and to start doing fun runs for small goals to better our health together. Setting running goals or Signing up for a fun run can sometimes be scary or intimidating for me, but since I joined the red power divas they are so supportive and educated on running goals and technique. They also remind me of balance in my life. Meaning, making time for ME. They never make me feel guilty for not being able to attend a practice meeting due to my busy weekend schedule at times. And they have so many fitness levels, its great to see so many people in such a big age range come together and be healthy together. They all are very welcoming and positive its contagious. I feel so proud to wear my red power diva shirt. This season I’m going to get my husband to join me for some red power diva/​divo fun.

Prior to joining the RPDs, I could not even imagine running a mile let alone 13.1. I was warmly welcomed into the group and was motivated week after week to push myself. It was great seeing people at various levels sharing the enthusiasm of a 7:30am Saturday run. (yikes!) With the help of every single person out there, I managed to complete my first ½ marathon! If I was not so far away now, I would still be out there training. I would love to beat my times for the 5k, 10k, and ½! :)

Joining the RED POWER DIVAS was the best thing I did for ME my health and well being. I started the C25K training and ran my first 5k after 3 months then after that i did more 5k’s and then 10k’s and 1 year after joining the RPD’s I ran my first half marathon.
I love these LADIES they give you the support and encourgement you need and i will tell you the enthuisam is contagious.
My Daughter Jenny is now starting this year and hopefully we will run our First ½ marathon togethor in Jan 2014.
This group is the best if you want some PUSH in getting healthly and strong you do not have to be a runner you could walk too that is the beauty of it no matter what your goal we will help you reach it.
