I hired RE Roofing to replace my roof about 2 years ago. I got 3 or 4 bids and while they weren’t the cheapest, they were the most detailed and Miles took the time to answer all my questions.
They performed the work as agreed upon and didn’t mind my annoying questions while the work was being done. There was a little more damage to the plywood under the roof that had to be replaced but I was told to expect the possibility of there being damage that couldn’t be seen until the preexisting shingles were removed.
In the end, there were two problems that had to be fixed, a bend in one of the gutters, and a cover to an outside electrical box that was installed backwards, but both issues were resolved.
I hope I don’t have to replace my roof again anytime soon, but if I ever do need a new roof, I’ll definitely be giving them a call.

I love R E Roofing. Here is why.
When another contractor replaced our home wood shake roof with an asphalt shingle roof several years ago, we had a very nasty surprise. We had an indoor heat gain of 10 to 20 degrees. Summers were unbearably hot, and we finally had to install an air conditioning unit that we now have to use all summer long every year.
When it came time to replace the wood shake roof on our rental triplex, we did not want to have to also install 3 air conditioning units because it would be very expensive. We interviewed all Diamond Certified roofing contractors and several other well known roofing contractors. The ONLY contractor that listened to our concerns about increasing the inside temperature when changing from wood to asphalt shingle was Miles from R E Roofing. Miles designed a very high quality roof by removing the «skip sheating» and adding high quality CDX with thermal barrier, special intake baffles, and numerous O’Hagan vents for excellent ventilation of the attic. He also took our current attic insulation up to R-​40. Miles also designed a very special water proofing protection system at a complicated «hog valley» where we had gotten water leaks in the past. We liked Miles’ design so we contracted with R E Roofing to replace the roof on our triplex. R E Roofing installed the roof on our triplex on time and exactly as contracted. They even replaced a section of roof gutter at no cost to us because it was slightly dented during the roofing process. We were very happy with the professionalism of the job. But we were happiest when it was over 100 degrees outside and the inside felt like it was air conditioned! We measured over a 20 degree reduction in inside temperature from the outside temperature simply due to the roof design. This winter during the winter rains, we are just as happy because that difficult «hog valley» is water tight and we have no leaks at all. R E Roofing was not the lowest bid, but they were certainly the best value. If we had to install 3 air conditioning units in our triplex, it would have been very expensive. Now, thanks to Miles at R E Roofing, we do not have to install air conditioning and we are also water tight during winter rains.

Our experience with RE Roofing started excellently – great representation, astute bidding (including satellite roof measurement), wide choice of materials, Though not the lowest bidder, we picked them as being the best qualified. The roofing job itself was executed well and promptly (Spring 2015). We are very satisfied with the roofing work itself.
But. .. things happened. It gives me no pleasure to recount them.
Their truck damaged plantings when backing up into our driveway (six feet wider than the truck) and left large, ugly ‘rubber’ marks. It’s a straight driveway, at 90 degrees to the street, and easy to back into. I trimmed the plantings; they cleaned up the rubber.
The work required a form from the City of Mountain View, which I had to provide. I went to the City and got it, and made a dozen extra copies for RE. No problem, really. But you would have thought that a company doing business here would have the requisite forms, no?
The roof required additional plywood sub-​sheathing to meet code, except in an area where we had an addition several years ago that had been sheathed to current code, but the bill did not reflect the fact that some of that extra sheathing was not needed. I called them on it and they corrected the bill. Details, details.
They installed guttering differently from the original configuration, such that a lot of water was bottled up and directed into an area near the house foundations. This worried me, so I called and asked whether the ‘end cap’ bottleneck could be removed, and offered to pay (you, the reader, may decide whether they or I should have been responsible). I stressed that this early in the rainy season (late Oct/​early Nov) it was not high priority, and was told that there would be a minimum $ 250 charge to fix the problem. Four weeks passed, without a call back, so I asked my next-​door neighbor, an old friend, for help. He brought over a ‘cast’ saw (reciprocating blade, used on body casts, that cuts without harming the cast wearer). It took us about ten minutes, and neither of us is a professional in this area of work.
So, on balance, RE Roofing executes roofing well but. .. the devil is in the details.
Yes, it is raining as I write (mid December 2015).
PS Miles from RE Roofing read this review (originally three stars), brought over two magnificent flower pots (embarrassing me rather deeply), and committed to having his gutter subcontractor finish the gutter problem professionally (my neighbor and I did not do a particularly brilliant job, though we did make it fully functional).
This sort of followup is rare and deeply appreciated, and makes clear that RE cares for its customers and knows that followup is vital (those darned details…).

This company is excellent. I visited their showroom when we were interested in a new roof. Yale Proctor was fabulous. We narrowed it down to 2 or 3 different styles, and he gave me a list of houses where that style/​color had been chosen. I highly recommend them. They are honest ethical, caring and great to do business with. They make it easy! It does not get better than that!

We first went to the RE showroom where we met with Paul who walked us through roofing materials and gutter options.
We then had several companies bid on the job. Miles took the time to explain the options available to us and when he presented the quotation it was very thorough.
The roof removal crew arrived on time and did their work very quickly. The crew was polite and they left the site spotless.
The roofing crew arrived the same day and started the preparations for the sheathing that was also installed very quickly.
Prior to the shingles arriving the gutter installers put up the pre-​painted gutters. They where hung very straight and the end seams looked good.
The GAF ultra shingles arrived and the crew went to work. I had some special requests and they took care of them.
The whole job took four and a half days and turned out great.
We found Paul, Miles and Jodie very flexible and pleasant to work with.
We highly recommend RE roofing.

Pre-​construction review: We have entered into contract with RE to have our roof replaced this spring. We interviewed more than 4 different roofing companies before making the decision last fall to go with RE and we have been very happy with our decision, so far. Miles and the RE team have been nothing but professional and helpful since our first meeting. Over the course of the winter we have had several unexpected situations, to which we have found Miles and the RE Team to be incredibly responsive. First, recognizing the roof replacement wouldn’t take place until after the rainy season (this was agreed with RE up front and was not an issue for us), Miles and the team, at no cost, spent a day making pre-​construction repairs to ensure that we wouldn’t have leakage during the winter. No tarps were needed, but obvious repairs were made and it definitely helped — especially with 2 significant storms we had in January and February. Second, we’ve had some issues with existing gutters (all of which will be replaced as part of the roof repair) and RE was able to assist with short term resolution of those issues as well. Finally, we had a «momma» squirrel find a way through 2 separate vents below our eaves to create a nest for her babies. Miles generously offered to help patch those exposed vents again prior to construction so to avoid more unwanted critters in the future. (IMPORTANT NOTE: momma and baby squirrels were humanely removed from our attic and relocated to a more suitable external habitat before the vent repair occurred)
Needless today, we have been very impressed with Miles and RE thus far. Their professionalism and commitment to customer service is exactly why we felt comfortable going with a local family owned business for our construction needs. We feel great about our decision to go with RE and look forward to having a positive experience with them when the real work starts in the next month… the roof replacement!

In response to Miles P.‘s comments:
1. My review is for the customer service after the contract was signed not the roofing product. The roof product itself was and still is wonderful, I would have the same one installed again. The customer service up to the signing of the contract was amazing, they were very responsive, gave us all of the answers we were looking for. We chose RE Roofing because of the great customer service and verbal commitments and because we always try to support local family owned and operated businesses. What we should have done and what I always do now is get EVERYTHING in writing.
2. I was told by RE Roofing when we signed the contract we were customers and that even though they were backed up a couple of months they would take care of making sure our roof was water tight until they could install the new roof. I will give them this was no small task as we had just completed a fairly large project that put some big holes in the roof however we believed them and trusted them because they were a small family run business but we didn’t get it in writing (big mistake that I will NEVER make again). Fast forward a bit, there was bad weather in the forecast and we called to make sure they were going to put tarps or something on the roof before the storm. At that point they said oh no, that isn’t part of our contract they didn’t have any crews available for that. New Years Eve when the big storm hit even though we did our best to make the roof water tight ourselves it leaked an inch of water over our entire family room ruining the brand new ceiling and floors that were just completed. There is no way we would have hired them to do this project without that guarantee, there were 2 other companies who had the exact same roofing material and both were a bit less expensive who could have done the job long before RE Roofing and the storms, but because RE Roofing was a small family run company who promised they would take care of us we chose them. Shortly after the big flood they did manage to squeeze us in to their busy schedule earlier than our original date so we didn’t have a repeat flood and we appreciated that.
3. The gutters, while we were very unhappy with the gutters we chose, those are the ones we ordered. We were never shown pictures or samples of the gutters and were never told and were not aware that they would be installed with rivets. That said, while I was unhappy with the rivets and would have liked gutters replaced, at the end of the day that is what we ordered and again shame on us for not doing our own research and for trusting in the professionals to be honest with us and to educate us. However, the rivets were not our biggest complaint! The part that was completely unacceptable was that there were visible holes in nearly every seam where water could leak from the gutters and at nearly all of the seams pieces of gutter sticking up and cuts and corners were uneven. (see posted pictures of only a few of the many places the gutter workmanship was subpar) What made this worse is that even to this day RE Roofing thinks it is the rivets not the shoddy workmanship that we were complaining about. It took a couple of visits from RE demanding final payment (which we withheld) before the owner got involved and when he did he finally understood that while we were not happy with our gutter choice it was the instillation was unacceptable and he had the gutter guys back out to fix their workmanship.
So the long and the short of it is that our experience with RE Roofing was not good and it is clear that they were as done with us as we were with them. Based of the few (under 30) Unilocal reviews they have had it appears that we were an anomaly, and I really hope that is the case because I still do root for and try to support local family owned and operated businesses. The one thing I would recommend is that no matter who you chose for your roofing needs no matter how much you trust them that you GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING, this way you can avoid any miscommunication and both parties have a clear understanding of what expectations are.

RE Roofing does high quality work at a reasonable price. They are professional, dependable, highly skilled and very honest. This is a family business with excellent employees and superb results. They did a fantastic job on replacing my roof, with a functional and beautiful end result. A year or so later, they made themselves available on very short notice to help me with a separate roofing project. They also did a great job on that. Miles, Paul, and Jesse were all fantastic. These guys are the best around!

I fully recommend R. E Roofing for a new asphalt roof. I did the normal google investigations of shingle manufacturers, venting types, underlayment, ect to educate myself then got three quotes from local rates Unilocal roofers. Big, medium, small. Although its difficult to compare quotes apples to apples and everyone has a different opinion on shingle manufactures, R. E Roofing was very reasonably priced and flexible. However Miles and his family’s business sealed the deal with his knowledge, personality, and no B.S. He measured for the quote then returned to the house to present the quote in person the next day. They had a last minute opening so the roof was done the next week.
Our house is 1100sqft. I chose the CertainTeed Landmark Pro shingles with Omni ridgevents on the house and O’hagin vents on the garage under the tree (I feel the ridgevents could get clogged with leaves and stems overtime). The old roof was off by 10am, ~80 linear ft of decking repaired over the next few hours, and the job was done the next day by 2pm. They installed all new flashing and vents then painted them to match. Miles was also kind enough to move an existing bath vent pipe in order to open up a large section of roof for later solar panels. Plus they replace a few soffit vents.

R E Roofing just finished re-​roofing our home in San Jose. Professional, quick and clean. Easy to work with both in quoting and scheduling the actual roofing work. Would certainly recommend to a friend or family member. Very Happy with R E Roofing.

We all have that one neighbor, right? Waist-​high weeds, scrap metal pouring out of the garage, peeling paint everywhere, barely operable truck in the driveway?
Even that guy’s roof was in better shape than mine.
Despite getting a lot of bids over the last few years, I hadn’t been willing to pull the trigger on a roof replacement until the recession had finally waned. I probably spoke to 7 – 8 roofing guys over a year and a half – fully intending to get the work done, but… I met Miles and his team in my second round of collecting bids. I was instantly impressed with his concern for quality materials and design. But I still blew him off because I just didn’t want to write the big check yet.
Miles kept in touch with me off and on for almost a year, and, really, I only made a token pass at getting competitive bids when I finally reached the breaking point with the old roof– I knew who I was going to hire. Miles and RE Roofing were more knowledgeable, more concerned about providing a quality product, more customer service oriented, but still very competitively priced. We signed a contract with full confidence that we’d get a quality roof. Since there was to be a bit of a delay (totally normal) between signing the contract and the job commencing, Miles put some temporary shims in some of the worst spots in my roof– they were the only parts of my roof that didn’t look like they were dredged from the bottom of a swamp at that point. I don’t recall asking him to do this– he just did it.
A week or so before the install, I asked Miles for a list of nearby homes that he’d done with the same materials we’d picked– we wanted to see a few to help us finalize the color we’d use. We drove by one of his clients and the owner of the house was out front. I rolled down the car window and told him (so, you know, he wouldn’t call the cops on me) why I was taking a picture of his house from my car.
«oh, the roofer?», he said, «they were far and away the best contractor I used when we remodeled»

My scheduling a roof replacement was just what the Bay Area needed. Rain! Forecast for day 3 of my 4 day replacement. No sweat, says Miles. We’ll be done. And they were.
The on site crew was super professional. Checked in on a couple of things (they added a few square feet to the overhang on my front door at my request, and this made the gutter installation a bit problematic, but they had good solutions). Miles checked in with me as the job progressed.
I’d ding RE Roofing a half star because they didn’t sweep out the garage when done, which was called for in the agreement. But they also got the roof on before all the useless crap my wife has squirreled in our attic got soaked by the rainstorm my roofing job magically created, so we’re even I guess. Clean up everywhere else was perfect.
I deal with a lot of contractors in my professional life, and I’m frankly pretty picky and demanding. Some might even use the word «jerk». R E Roofing lived up to my annoyingly high standards. I’ll be enthusiastically recommending Miles and his team to friends and clients.

R E Roofing did a fantastic job with our roof installation. The staff are very professional, got the job done quickly, correctly and cleaned up after they were done.
They also co-​ordinated with our solar company to have the brackets and panels properly installed.
It was very easy to work and communicate with them. We are so happy we went with R E Roofing.

We had a whole house fan put in by RE Roofing. It’s made a HUGE difference. A lot of heat builds up in the attic. Late at night it got so hot in the house, we’d have the air conditioner on despite it being cool outside.
The whole house fan replaces the air in the house AND the attic. Cools the place off in a hurry. Haven’t needed AC on since we had it installed.
They did a great job installing the fan, coordinating with Voltz electric, who handled the electrical work, and were super nice to deal with.

RE Roofing did a very professional job for us. They are a family owned business, complete with dad, mom, and two sons. Miles (one of the sons) was our primary contact — from sales through the final clean-​up of the job. He is very personable and easy to work with. Miles came by daily to view progress and did a walk-​through at the end to review a few follow-​up tasks. RE subcontracted the demolition work to U Save Roof Removal; that team did a solid and efficient job. The RE installation field crew — the lead (Pete) and 3 roofers — were professional and hard working. (They appreciated Starbucks caramel Frappuccinos.)
I highly recommend a brief showroom visit. Once I arrived at the showroom, I was confident in my decisions regarding roof material and color. It also helped me to view the O’Hagin vents that Miles was recommending for our roof ventilation. I immediately knew that was not the solution for us, because I didn’t want to be viewing those big metal vents on our steep-​pitched roof from my garden every weekend. So I went with the more conventional ridge and under-​eave venting. (This ended up being a key decision point, as Miles seemed to favor the O’Hagin vents, and I would have followed that recommendation had I not gone in and viewed them for myself.)
There was only light collateral damage to my surrounding garden throughout — from tear-​down through construction. Let’s face it, this is heavy and demanding work. I was worried that my trees and bushes around the house would be greatly impacted (based on a prior contractor experience). A few minor limbs were «trimmed» but everything looks great.

We just bought our house a couple of years ago, and the roof needed replacement. The quote RE gave us was actually the highest quote we received. But since we heard good recommendation from one of our neighbors who are all very kind to us, and since Miles from RE gave us a very good impression when he gave us a detailed quote, we decided to go for quality construction to save some headaches down the road and had our roof and gutter completely replaced by RE last fall.
Afterwards, over the rainy winter months, we discovered that one part of the gutter was not slopped properly and some rain water was trapped at a corner towards our house. We discussed this with Paul (the owner) and were pleased that RE was willing to stand by their work. Paul made some small models of the gutter and came to our house to explain to us what he was going to ask the gutter contractor to do to correct the problem. Then he asked the contractor to take off part of the gutter and re-​adjusted its slope accordingly. During the process, the workers forgot to patch up a hole on the wall that the gutter leans against. Paul apologized, assumed responsibility, and asked the gutter contractor to come back, take off part of the gutter, patch the hole, and put the gutter back up again. We were really impressed by this.
We are very thankful and pleased to say that RE does stand by their high-​quality work.

RE Roofing was competitive in price but not the lowest. I chose the company because Paul impressed me that he really understood roofing, particularly the critical ventilation issues and flashing at complex points on the roof. Also the fact that the company is family-​owned and it keeps its employees working all year long suggested that the work would be professional. And it was. In fact, they went the extra mile to ensure that everything was done as well as possible and there would be no issues 10 or 15 years from now. The job site was kept clean and small issues like running the TV cable in through the flashing were handled. They even came back to remove an extra vent placed there because the installers did not know it was no longer used. They also did their own solar tube installation rather than contracting it out. I couldn’t be more pleased with the job.

RE Roofing just replaced our shake roof and we’re very happy with the results. Miles visited our property to take the measurements and prepared the quote. The following weekend we visited the showroom to see the samples and get additional information regarding the ventilation. The quote was very competitive to other quotes that we received so we decided to move forward with RE Roofing. Miles and the RE Roofing crew did a great job and they worked with our solar installer to make the overall project seamless. Miles kept me informed of the project and visited our house during the job to ensure everything was going well. Overall great experience and I would recommend RE Roofing.

RE Roofing was recommended by my solar installer who told me they had worked together on a number of projects, and RE Roofing always did excellent work. I checked with a homebuilder friend who also said they were a great company, and he would definitely recommend them.
I got quotes from three roofing contractors, and all had very similar pricing. Miles delivered RE Roofing’s quote which was far more detailed than the others. He seemed much more concerned than the others about ensuring the roof would work well for my home (I wanted to replace shake with tile) and that it would have proper ventilation, so I chose RE Roofing.
The installation went very smoothly. Their crew was always punctual, and very courteous. They completed the job on time, and on budget. The new roof was so beautiful I was almost sorry to see it covered by solar. Several neighbors even stopped by to say like loved the look of the new roof.

RE Roofing won our roofing job not by being the lowest bid, there price was lower than some but higher than a few. They won our roof by going the extra mile. Our sales rep, Miles (son of owner Paul) did a very thorough proposal and explained all our options. He came up with some innovative solutions to venting that entailed extra work on RE Roofings part. They showed up when they said they would, the crew was fast, courteous and profession. They closed up areas on our roof that were letting rats into our attic. All-​in-​All we could not be happier with the job they did.

We are very happy customers and would recommend RE Roofing if you are considering a new roof.

We had actually gotten as far as signing a contract with their competitors when we met with Miles and his Dad. We were so pleased with their down-​to-​earth attitude, their knowledge, their professionalism, their responsiveness, and frankly, their zero-​pressure sales that we cancelled the existing contract and switched to R E Roofing. They were a bit cheaper as well, although I would not be surprised if there are still cheaper out there, but you get what you pay for and RE’s warranty and service are excellent. They also only required a $ 1000 down payment instead of 50% like their competitors, which was nice. They also let us put the materials (but not labor) on a credit card (which buys a few good reward points!)
Their work crews busted their butts. Our small 1400sf house was done in 2.5 days including new gutters and a solar tube. The crews left the yard cleaner than how they found it.
My only disappointment was when the final bill arrived. I was surprised that they had not given me a «heads-​up» on about $ 1500 worth of extra work (half was for some dry rot and the other half was for an unexpectedly difficult and time-​consuming task of getting new gutters installed on our unique eaves). However, and I must stress this, when I contacted them and said I was unhappy about the unexpected charges, the owner agreed with me that the additional gutter installation task was not «hidden» work and should have been caught in the original inspection/​quote. He immediately issued me a check for the entire amount of the extra gutter work, even though I have no doubt his crew actually did incur significant extra time and expense.
This is a company that values their good reputation (I think hey have a 100% Diamond Certified rating) and really wants you to be happy with your experience. I would not hesitate to use them again.
I’d ding ‘em a half star for not having someone on-​site explaining the extra charges as they arose, but other than that — a fantastic company and a fantastic job.
