Margaret’s French Bakery

I came a while back to check out this place for my wedding. They had made my niece’s birthday cake a year before, her mom was raving about this place. I had the cake and it wasn’t that memorable, but I chalk that up to flavor preference. So my mom and I made an appointment to go taste the cake. Our first impression was that the cakes slices they gave us were dinky. Seriously, the thin slices, really mess with the texture and mouth feel of the cake. Overall the cakes were lacking in flavor and were dry. I’m not surprise as I read through other comments of how they’ve completely destroyed the Aki’s Guava cakes, these guys just don’t make cakes, they are great decorators, but are horrible bakers. To top all of this off, they were the most expensive place we looked at. Not worth it.

We used Margaret’s French Bakery for a group celebration (approx. 80 people). We customized a dessert table with a variety of flavors of parfaits, tarts, cream puffs, and cookies. The only reason I didn’t give them ⁵⁄₅ is because the cookies were burnt and a little hard. I helped myself to a tres leches parfait, tiramisu parfait and a lemon tart. Each one of them were delicious and wish I had order more to take home. I received so many compliments and how I out did myself this time. I will definitely order from Margaret’s French Bakery again.

Huge fan of the dessert quality and customer service. We used Margaret’s French Bakery for our wedding and have absolutely no complaints. We had a 3 tier cake as well as a dessert table.
Cake: 3 tier — Devil’s food cake, triple vanilla cake, and carrot cake ABSOLUTELY delicious!
Desserts: Chocolate Chip Cookies, Sugar Cookies, Peanut Butter Cookies, Chocolate Brownies, Red Velvet Cupcakes, Vanilla Cupcakes, Cheesecake Rounds, Pecan Tart, Lemon Tart, and French Macaroons — Passion Fruit, Chocolate, Sea Salt Caramel.

subpar. Especially for a $ 65 10″ cake. i do not recommend this place. I now miss Aki’s Bakery immensely. Guava cake from Aki’s was special especial back in the old days of the original baker whom was Japanese-​American.
This place sorry! If you want your high priced foofee cake, here you go! Not for me!

I got married last month and this bakery had the best cakes… I chose a small cake for my bridal party and 3 different cupcakes for everyone else. I raved to our quests how good their cakes are… until my actual wedding day… When I cut into my favorite One and they were plain white cup cakes. So disappointed.

We have been buying cakes from Margaret for over 19 years. Each cake has been beautiful and exactly how we wanted it to look, and tasted AMAZING. We recently had petitfours and a cake made for our baby shower and all our guests couldn’t get enough! We can’t wait for our next event to see what the next beautiful creation will be!

I came here for the Aki’s Guava cake and I was not impressed with the service nor the cake.
Experience: It is by appointment only so I called and left a few voice messages; they never called back. Not cool in my book but I ended up showing up their location to make an order. The lady in the front was polite and helpful only after I mentioned I was a first timer. I honestly feel like I would have received better service if I was spending more money to buy a bigger cake (looks like they specialize in wedding cakes).
The cake: It looks like a prettier version of Aki’s Guava cake but the quality falls short. The purée gel and frosting most resembles Aki’s original guava cake but the cake itself is firmer and for some reason leaves a salty and dry aftertaste (Aki’s original cake is light and fluffy without that aftertaste). Did I mention my cake was burnt on the bottom? Not cool.
Overall, it was not worth the time, money nor gas I spent. I will be going elsewhere next time.

I ordered a fondant cake for my baby shower from here, they did a really great job of putting my vision in reality. I ordered triple vanilla flavor, it was really yummy and moist, everyone loved it!

This cake is served at my work in the Café and I was tempted to buy it based off the name «Princess Cake» and am so glad I did! My only complaint is I ALWAYS want more!
The perfect amount of everything. Not overly sweet and not bland, literally perfect. I love cake and it’s VERY hard to find a bakery who does it right.
I will definitely be coming here to buy any and all my future cakes.

We LOVED the cake we got from Margaret’s French Bakery! Both my husband and I aren’t a huge fan of cake, but after a few cake tastings at different places, we came across Margaret’s French Bakery and were super impressed!
They did a great job helping us select a style of cake that we liked and had wonderful flavors of cake to choose from! We loved so many flavors that we ended up selecting a different flavor for each of the cake tiers.
We wanted to have flowers that matched the bouquets, so the day before the wedding we picked up roses from our florist and brought them to Margaret’s French Bakery where they added them to the cake.
On the day of the wedding they delivered the cake on time and it looked fantastic! The best compliment came from my grandmother who is an incredible cook but hard to please when it comes to cake — she could not stop raving about how much she loved it! Months after the big day, that’s what she talks about most!
We highly recommend getting your wedding cake from Margaret’s French Bakery!

These people never returned your call it says on the door appointments only we called my wife called left a voice message never answer their phone and never return the call and we went to the door on their shop and their bakery knock on the door I see people standing inside the bakery through the garage door but they just stare at me don’t open the door don’t even say anything they just stared at me with a stupid ass business

I called and set an appointment to order a cake for my wife’s 30^th birthday. I walked in and had no idea what type of design I wanted. One of their designers, Patricia sat down with me and asked a series of questions about my wife and the party. She started sketching out some different ideas that were amazing on paper. I was really excited with the direction she was going with the cake. I was hoping that the final product would match the drawing.
The cake was a work of art! It exceeded every expectation I had. It was beautifully designed with stunning creations and tasted delicious. Our guests said it was some of the best cake they have had.
I would highly recommend Margaret’s French Bakery for your next event!

Margaret’s designed a beautiful 4 tier wedding cake for my husband and I. We had blackberry lemon, devils food, tiramisu and we can’t wait to enjoy chocolate torte next year :) What a beautifully tasty cake. I provided a picture for them and they mimicked it perfectly. I’m so happy we chose this bakery!

I’ve only ordered and had 1 kind of cake from Margaret’s, the Triple Vanilla cake. But, I’ve ordered it about 10 times. You honestly can’t go wrong with it. I love the flavor of vanilla. I wouldn’t go as far as to say even more than chocolate, but it’s right up there. To have 3 times the vanilla in a cake is good enough for me. The buttercream frosting isn’t overly sweet and goes along with the perfectly moist cake.
The service is always friendly! But, if you’ve never been here before, this isn’t your typical bakery storefront. First off, it’s more of a wedding cake type shop. Meaning, you don’t just walk in and pick up a cake from their display case. In fact, they don’t even have display cases. You basically order it and pick it up. If you’re getting a wedding cake, of course they will set you up with an appointment to try the different flavors. If you’re ordering a birthday cake of some sort, you can do that too, but it’s probably best to order over the phone and see if they can do it. They have never said they couldn’t do any of my requests, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

I had gotten my wedding cake in Oct. 2009 and was so happy with it that I decided to get my daughter’s first birthday cake here.
I called them up with only 2 weeks until the birthday party and asked if they could have a cake ready for me by then. They said no problem. I ordered a quarter sheet of their triple vanilla cake and asked that they put a picture of an owl on there along with the phrase «Happy 1^st birthday Olivia» in lavender. They told me to email a picture of an owl and they’ll incorporate into the cake.
As the time approached to pick up the cake I Unilocaled for their address as it’s been a while since I was last there. I decided to read some of the reviews and realized that the ownership has changed, but the recipes remained. I started to worry that the cake I remembered so well would not be as I imagined.
Happy to say that the cake was beautiful and beyond expectations! On top of that, it tasted moist and the vanilla frosting was subtle — exactly why I chose to order my cake there for the 2^nd time. It was a big hit! I highly recommend them if you’re ever in need of a cake.

My new co-​worker requested Aki’s Guava cake for her birthday. Aki’s was always my go to bakery for their cakes. Searched internet and found a FB page for Margaret’s French Bakery. Disappointed and sorry to say that it did not possess the light, airy, texture of the «original» Aki’s Guava cake. It was dense and heavy and did not tickle my taste buds at all. The bottom layer was hard. Whatever they did to change or alter the recipe is a total shame. I have not tried any of their other cakes. Never thought that I would find a bakery touting high quality cakes in an industrial-​like complex.

It doesn’t happen often, but this is one of those times that I feel bad for giving a low rating.
Aki’s Bakery posted something on their Facebook page saying that Margaret’s will be making their popular Guava Cake from now on (since A Piece of Cake Bakery closed down), and since Margaret’s doesn’t have a retail location and is «by appointment only», I called and put in an order for a 5″ Guava Cake. It would take a few days before they’d have it ready, and cost $ 25, but because of all the hype I’ve heard about this Guava Cake, I figured it would be worth it.
If I was blindfolded ate a piece of this cake, I’d tell you it was one of the best plain cakes I’ve ever had — Moist. Fresh. Delicious… except for the fact that I didn’t order a plain cake. I ordered a guava cake, and there was nothing in this «guava-​colored» cake that tasted even remotely close to guava.
I went back and looked over some of the most recent reviews of Aki’s and of Piece of Cake, and noticed that there were a few of them that had the same problem, so my guess is that the problem is with the recipe, and the only mistake Margaret’s made was not taste-​testing this new recipe like they would w/​any other new cake they were considering adding to their menu.
Even though the Guava Cake didn’t live up to the hype, I’m still either coming back here for a regular cake, or picking up some of their pastries from the farmers’ market in Campbell so I can come back and give a better rating.

Found Margaret’s French Bakery as a stand at the Mountain View Farmers Market last weekend. Came late, so by the time we found her booth the majority of her goods were gone. We did manage to snag a couple of fruit tarts at 2/​$ 5, which seemed good. the lady who helped us may or may not have been Margaret, but she was friendly, polite and helpful.
Tarts were packed in a recyclable take out container, which was a nice touch considering the fact that we were at a farmers market and otherwise I’m sure most bakeries use Styrofoam. Tarts traveled well until we got home and were still in good condition. Ate one while watching TV for dessert that night and it was tasty– didn’t blow me away, but flavor was good and light. Loved that they were so pretty, which is really what caught our eye to purchase them in the first place.
Might purchase tarts again, but would rather snag a cupcake if I see the booth next time.

If this place had .5 as an option, it’d probably be like 2.5 stars. But I went lower instead of higher.
The service at Margaret’s is great. I e-​mailed about some cupcakes for a bachelorette, and Margaret was extremely sweet and accommodating. She offered to put little fondant pieces on my cupcakes with the letters of the bride and groom, which sounded great.
The day came where I had to pick up my cupcakes, but the bachelorette was cancelled. Luckily, they make the cupcakes daily, so the fondant wasn’t on them yet and I was able to cancel that. I still picked up two dozen cupcakes with my groupon.
So, if this review was purely for service, it’d be a 4.5 star at least. They were so kind and sweet! However, the cupcakes were… not. They tasted like they were made out of a box. I ordered red velvet, chocolate, and vanilla. The red velvet frosting is supposed to be cream cheese-​ish, but instead it had a weird sour after-​taste like the cream cheese had gone bad. The chocolate cupcakes were alright but didn’t have any rich chocolate taste. More like a german chocolate cupcake with overly sweet icing.
The vanilla was probably the most decent. More moist than the others, and a light flavor that accompanied the icing well.
Overall, I’m extremely disappointed with these cupcakes. I hope that Margaret’s Bakery tries to fix their recipe and that their store continues to thrive. But I will definitely not be back for the cupcakes, that’s for sure.

Groupon: We called and ordered cupcakes via the Groupon Deal. Not impressed what so ever. They were dry and a bit stale. Icing was okay.
A friend who is a pastry chef took a bite and looked at me and mouthed the words, «I am sorry.»
We will not order again and I am thankful that I did not pay full price.
