Good Samaritan Hospital

I had my first baby at Good Samaritan and the entire experience was great. All of the staff was incredible and so sweet and helpful. My labor and delivery nurse was especially amazing! I will most definitely be back for any future births! Dr. Mary Kilkenny from A Women’s Center was my amazing Dr. I highly recommend her and delivering at Good Samaritan hospital!

I had my son at the good Sam 18 months, and all I can say is that everyone was just wonderful, especially the nurses. They were all very attentive to my needs, the hospital service was also great.

I’ve been to the ER before to be stitched up, but recently I went in with a serious pain in my left side and a low grade fever around 100.1. The ER doctor probed my abdomen and asked for a urine sample, and that was it. Three hours after I got there they called me back and told me that there was some blood in my urine, but it wasn’t enough to be conclusive, and I should go to an OB/​GYN on Monday (this was on Saturday) They injected an anti-​inflammatory and prescribed some pain medications. Neither did a thing. They also said that the pain would go away in a few days.
Come Monday I don’t go to the referred gyn, but go to my own physician and he within 5 minutes simply hit my back and I went through the roof. He said hmmm Kidney infection, or stones or both. unbelievable. Not to mention that my doctor was amazed that the ER doctor didn’t consider 100.1 a fever especially after I told him I normally run 97. something.
Just unbelievable.
Hey if you need stitches great go, but if it’s anything else I’d try someplace else.

Good god this place is being managed by youngins! Doogie Howsers everytime I turn my head.
I ended up here when I got in a car accident right when I step in this place a doctor and a nurse that look under the age of 35, someone giving me x-​rays he looked 18. I guess people that are getting into the medical field start off with that type of education at the age of 14. Well thats what it seems. Everyone here seemed pretty nice but the janitorial staff looked like they came out of jail and theyre pushing some heroin on the clock.

We had our first baby at Good Samaritan. I do not know whether it was because it was the time of the year and only bad nurses were available or that was the overall quality of the Mother and the Baby Unit, but we had an overall below average experience here.
1) My wife’s water broke at 12AM, so we had to go inside via the Emergency room. They ushered us in, good so far, but instead of atleast giving her a wheel-​chair, made us walk all the way to the Labor Unit, My wife was so uncomfortable with the water leaking out, but who cares, aint it?
2) Once inside the Labor unit, despite the fact that we had pre-​registered with the Hospital with all of our personal and insurance information, we were asked for all that information all over again, in a rather rude manner. (Letting us know who the boss was, obviously!)
3) The overall Labor and Delivery Unit experience was normal and average.
4) Then came the moment to transfer us over to the Mother and Baby Unit at which place the real ‘service’ was shown by the nurses. Once admitted, the nurses were really rude, sometimes not even responding when asked for pain medications on the help line. The ‘help-​line’ front-​desk attendant was rude to the point of hanging up without any response, when requested to call the nurse.
5) The paediatrician was supposed to visit every day, but the second day, he came only around the midnight, mumbled something which was barely audible and by that time we were so exhausted, didnt even want to talk with him anylonger. Next morning, another paediatrician comes that barely has anytime to talk about our concerns, leaves us new parents dazed and confused. (Yeah, we are supposed to know everything about baby right?)
6) The lab technician that draws blood from my baby doesnt even bother that the baby is in intense pain, doesnt even offer some soothing words. Hey, you are drawing blood out of a one day old baby, not some inanimate thing! Soothe and pacify the baby or get out of the unit and try drawing blood from animals!
7) Here’s the crowning glory — the paediatrician that comes the second day looks at the Vitamin K shot that is given to the baby the moment he is born and thinks that is Hep B shot and records the same, doesnt even inform us. Imagine our astonishment, when after a week, our paediatrician informs us that the Hep B shot is only given in front of us and followed up with a yellow-​card that has all the info. Glad that we knew about it atleast at that point, got that shot from our paediatrician. Who exactly would have been responsible if the baby got infected somehow?
8) Nurses, in general, at the Mother and Baby Unit, were really really bad, (except for one, grandmotherly looking lady). They made us feel as they were bestowing a favor upon us. Where exactly is their Professionalism? The Nursing, the care, that they are supposed to give their patients?
The only good things that i have seen there are the Nursery (night-​time nurses that take care of the baby) which is excellent, the average-​to-​above-​average Labor and the Delivery Unit, and the Cafetaria Unit that takes good care of you by following-​up if you have forgotten to order meals etc.
Overall, i would not go to this Hospital for my second baby. I have expressed my pain to our doctors and i am trying to lodge an official complaint to the Hospital also.
