Sollievo Massage and Bodywork is a wellness practice located in North Cambridge. We offer various types of specialty work such as cranio-​sacral, myofascial work, massage cupping, zero balancing, thai table work, scar tissue release, oncology and reflexology in addition to deep tissue, prenatal, and swedish massage. Within the realms massage many different approaches exist and continue to evolve. Therefore, a session is not limited to only one way of addressing issues in the body, lending us the opportunity to draw from all the available tools to find the most effective way towards wellness. Looking for Deep Tissue work? Sollievo does not charge extra for deep tissue work. You will never be surprised by add-​on costs because of the depth of pressure used in your treatment. History

Established in 2007.

Laura and Rose had a vision to open a massage and acupuncture practice filled with therapists that were dedicated and passionate about their work. We didn’t want to be a one-​stop shop but rather the place to go for THE best hands-​on, therapeutic care in Cambridge. We wanted Sollievo to be a place where the atmosphere was not only absolutely beautiful, but relaxed and inviting — where superficial stress would melt away upon entering our doors. and clients felt «at home» and welcomed by all the staff. In June 2007, that vision came to life. Dedication to client care is paramount at Sollievo — clients know that, feel that and keep coming back because of that. Recognizing the importance of touch through my own experiences at a young age, I opted to pursue a career as a massage therapist. My primary modality is the Benjamin System of Muscular Therapy, which is based on Swedish massage. In June 2007, I opened a massage and acupuncture practice with Laura B (who taught massage for 10+) at the Muscular Therapy Institute. Today we have a state-​of-​the-​art practice in North Cambridge, with 8 treatment rooms, 13 therapists and 2 front end administrators. Our services include, but not limited to reflexology, reiki, acupuncture as well as the best massage in the area. We are proud to have won The Talk of the Town Award for 5 consecutive years.

I got a massage with MEAGHAN! I didn’t catch her last name but she was running a 20% off special I believe because she was newer maybe. I decided to take this opportunity to get the 2 hour massage. Can I tell you that Meagan is beyond fabulous. She massaged me head to toe and even rubbed the knots out of my jaw! I’m so happy I’m sending all my clients to her.

I have been here twice. Maura is amazing. I went in yesterday suffering from the worst pain because of my sciatica. I asked for someone who is strong and can do really deep tissue massage. I had been in pain for three days and they advised I see Maura. I was able to see her for 30 minutes only but today, I am pain free. If you can take a really intense massage she is amazing. I will be going back soon. Just an addendum.
I changed my review to 3 instead of 5 because my boyfriend scheduled a surprise massage and told them that it was a birthday surprise but they still sent me a message alerting me, which obviously ruined my surprise. He had called twice because they sent one that luckily I didn’t receive and then after he asked them not to, they sent another!!! The woman I spoke to had no other excuse but, «the reminders go out automatically.» That is not enough of an apology to ruin a really nice birthday surprise. I’m so disappointed. They should have something more to say than that. They didn’t even offer a discount. Don’t schedule surprises there! Apparently they don’t work!!!

I still love Sollievo after all these years. The environment is spacious and relaxing, and it feels earnest… not overly spa-​like, but in the best way. That’s hard to find in Boston. It’s not over the top, and yet, it feels very special. The staff is first-​class — all of them. I saw Perrin regularly for over 2 years. She has a magic touch, and is incredibly attuned. Our work together (ahem, her work) definitely provided some of the only relief from repetitive strain injuries I’ve ever felt.
Try cupping! It might look awful, but it feels great. Depending on how much tension you have, it may leave some temporary bruising. But hey, it’s almost winter, who cares! In my experience, the effects are not immediate, but they’re deep.

We did the massage lesson for two with Joseph.
First of all: the place was clean, relaxing, and comfortable. The front desk was helpful and friendly, and Joseph was a great presence: he guided us through a bunch of different massage moves, giving us helpful pointers and minor corrections as we practiced on each other. I ended up having loads of fun, and getting pretty inspired as well! (Joseph’s discussion about how and why massage is so good for you was really interesting.) My +1 also loved it, and we can’t wait to apply our learnin’s to our amateur massages at home! Though I’ve got to say, Joseph was amaaaazing, I don’t think we can compete with those hands. Damn.

I’m going here for acupuncture with Melissa. She’s great. She’s has the lightest touch that tickles me to no ending making for many uncomfortable giggles as she’s trying to stick me with needles… or safely remove them.
I’ve gone for two sessions and the place has always been warm, clean, relaxing. It’s a 5min walk from the Davis Sq. T stop and also offers parking.

I am split on how to rate Sollievo, as the experience entirely depends on which massage therapist one sees. The one I have is best in class, she is amazing. Others are very good, and still others not that great. However, given that each person’s massage preferences vary, this also means that what may not work for me, will work for others, and vice versa.
Facility is very clean, quiet and comfortable. Staff is courteous and friendly.

Great massage on short notice made my weekend bearable.
I called here (and a few other places) on Saturday morning, desperate for a massage so I could get the stress out of my shoulders and actually enjoy the weekend. Sollievo were the only ones to call me back, and I was able to go in for an appointment an hour later.
My massage was with Joseph, who was awesome. He used just the right amount of pressure, really listened when I told him I only cared about my back and shoulders, and gave me some great advice for other things I could do for my back in the future (when to use anti-​inflammatory lotion, advil, etc.). The whole experience was really relaxing and just what I needed.
Like a few others, I am taking off one star because this is a little pricey — $ 50 for a half hour. They have some deals for 60 min+ appts but there’s not a lot of flexibility if you only want half an hour. Still, great experience, nice service, and perfect location (close to Davis).

I try to schedule a massage at Sollievo about every 6 – 8 weeks. I have visited with 4 different therapist and each one has her own style, but all of them have been fantastic! I love the online booking, but the helpful staff at the desk are wonderful. The therapists are really great — they are really professional, they know exactly what they are doing, really chill, and easy to get along with. They give you great feedback and suggestions on stretches, techniques to do at home. After trying many «spas» in the Boston area, I have finally found an authentic, high quality, peaceful wellness center!

If you are looking for an acupuncturist, look no further! Larisa Rich is absolutely amazing. I’ve had a chronic health issue since I was 12, and have been to heaps of doctors who were all totally useless. After meeting with Larisa twice, my symptoms began to resolve. She sat with me for over an hour and did an in depth analysis of my symptoms and created a list of foods for me to eat and what to avoid. @ first I thought she was waaaaaaaaaaay off, but I stuck to the diet anyway. I had acupuncture 2 or 3 times as a supplement, but haven’t had to go in for months. When I told her about the results, she said that food is the best and cheapest medicine and that the goal is to get the client balanced enough with diet and lifestyle changes that they don’t need to see her for acupuncture. I’ve seen other acupuncturists and they either gave me massive headaches or didn’t do anything. Larisa’s the real deal, and I can’t recommend her highly enough!
Also, if you’re looking for a fantastic massage, Maureen is the one to go to. She is like a wizard-​ress with healing hands! I’ve had some back issues since being in a car accident in ’09, and I can keep them @ bay if I see her every 4 or 5 months.
There’s free parking in the back and the prices are pretty reasonable, too.

Maureen at Sollievo gave me the BEST massage experience I’ve had in years! Thank you!
She focused heavily on my stress zones, used a wide variety of techniques and melted a locked up shoulder. She even spent a few minutes after the massage showing me some maintenance techniques.
The treatment room was large, clean, quiet and warm with soft lighting and good décor.
Here’s the rub (bad pun, I know) — I enjoyed the experience so much that I would love to go back every month or so, but the price will make it a rare special treat.

Love the ambiance of the place. It really doesn’t make me feel like I was doing something really sketchy in some little dingy room in the back of some less than desirable establishment. I like that they take time to do a pre and post massage interview to address any concerns.
The experience was really relaxing and enjoyable. I can’t really put my finger on it but something is missing about this place thus the 4 stars.

Went to Sollievo with my bf on a Saturday afternoon with groupons. We had to fill out on online surveys about our physical health before we went in for our appointments. My masseuse (I forgot her name!) was awesome, asked lots of questions and followed through. I have been having chronic hamstring pain on my left leg after workouts and she worked on my lower back, glutes, hamstring, and calves. The day after I was able to sit for more than 30 minutes and get up without pain and it was awesome! Highly recommend, but know your body and be specific about what you want them to do.

I LOVE this place. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because it’s a little on the pricey side, but well worth it. I was introduced to Sollievo through Groupon, and was very pleased. I had Helen as my masseuse, and she is amazing – I’ve already been back. She took the time to discuss what issues I was having with my back, and even showed me extra stretches to do everyday. She did a type of massage therapy called myofascial release. If you have back problems, I highly recommend this type of massage. It’s similar to massage, but with slower more concentrated movements. My back felt immediately better after she was done, and the results lasted for much longer than with a typical massage.
The atmosphere here is also very soothing, staff is friendly, AND I got another coupon to use after I used my Groupon. I’ve been to a lot of massage places around Boston and this is definitely my favorite. Plus, there’s always parking on this part of Mass Ave!

I’ve been to a LOT of massage places, and this one was pretty decent. First of all, it’s HUGE. You wouldn’t be able to tell from the waiting area, but once you go to your massage room, it’s like entering some medieval castle. It’s got all these hallways and many many rooms! So the ambiance was cool.
I had Laurie, who was absolutely charming. She was cute and hilarious and incredibly friendly. Loved her personality to death. I thought the massage was pretty good in general. She really worked my shoulder blades area that I requested, and that was interesting. It was an hour massage and she mainly focused on my back, which is what I requested.
Afterward, she pointed out the tension areas that she worked on that probably needs more work. She showed me this thing called the Theracane, which is this stick that you can use to massage your own back! Umm, it was freakin’ awesome. I want to buy one, but it was like $ 30. I will probably buy one online.
I had a groupon so I only had to pay $ 40.

This place rocks! I had a great massge with Meghan Hallowell. I really like that the therapists schedule you for 90 minutes so that you get a full 60 minute massage and still have time to discuss any issues before and after the massage. Meghan even took the time afterwards to show me some things I can do at home to keep my muscles loose.
The only reason this place gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the cost. A 60 min massage is around $ 90! As a first timer I got the $ 15 discount but the prices are really high and I am not sure the massage was that much better then other more affordable places.

I spent a month and a half hunched over a laptop working on a project that required a lot of overtime. When I finally reemerged into the sun and straightened my spine, I realized my back was pretty f-​ed up.
Sollievo is only a block away from my house, and when I researched it on Unilocal,I noticed they had a $ 15 off coupon for first-​time guests. Woo hoo! I booked the massage appointment online pretty easily, and someone called me to let me know that the Unilocal coupon is for the 1 hour and 15 minute massage (which the coupon does not say, so FYI).
Now, some back story– I was excited about this massage because I’d only had 2 massages up to that point, and both were terrible. The first time I had an awful pinched nerve in my shoulder so everything hurt, and for my second massage, which took place in China, I’m pretty sure I was in a «massage parlor» that also doubled as a house of prostitution as the room stunk of man sweat and was freezing cold. The room was so cold and the bed of questionable cleanliness that the young masseuse and I just spent the rest of the time showing each other pictures of our boyfriends on our cell phones and trying to have a conversation in broken English and Mandarin.
So, let’s just say the bar for my expectations was low going in, but Sollievo was great. Linda, my LMT, led me to a room that was 77 degrees (very comfy for taking off your clothes) and asked me all about how my body hurt and what I liked. She was very discreet in dealing with nudity – kept me covered at all times– and didn’t talk (who wants to chat during a massage?). She really knew what she was doing– she hit the perfect line between «Ahhh, that feels great» and «Ow it hurts a little, but don’t stop.» Woman has a gift.
You have a $ 15 coupon, a sore back/​neck, and perhaps a little extra in your pocket from your tax return. Why not go to Sollievo and treat yourself? Well worth it. Ask for Linda.

The pain! The pleasure! Meghan has some strong hands. She worked those muscles into submission.
Thanks to Groupon, I was able to get an amazing massage. Meghan was polite and caring. She listened to my concerns and went to work.
The coupon was for 60mins and I only got 45mins massage time. The other 10−15mins was spent on the initial «consultation» and post massage advice. But $ 45 for 45min massage is still a great deal.
Post massage, she told me about things to do in between massage appointments, which I appreciated.
Overall, Yay! I’m a fan. Main reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was their prices are high. I used a Groupon for this visit, but I would like to come back, and their prices are just too high. Second, its not a «day spa». I am a HUGE fan of the day spa experience. I believe every massage should be accompanied by plush robes, steamy showers, and time in the sauna or hot tub. This place doesn’t offer that.

I can’t say enough good things about the massages and the treatment I have gotten here…
The atmosphere is soothing and calming as soon as you walk in the door, the staff are friendly and helpful, incredibly knowledgable and great listeners. They draw out of you the experience you would like to have by asking just the right questions, and are very intuitive as to how to treat you whether you know what you need or not. Each time I have been, I have had Megan, who has magic hands… I swear…
I live close by, but would definitely commute to get here– it’s so worth it. Whether to recover from a sore back, or to de-​stress or pamper– GO! You won’t regret it.

Sollievo is amazing. It has clean, soothing and fresh atmosphere. The staff is very welcoming. I have gone to Linda for massages (excellent) and tried acupuncture for the first time at Sollievo with Larisa, who is absolutely wonderful. She’s informative, answers all your questions and you can tell she really cares and wants to create a treatment that is right for you.
