Business Owner

David Matthews Jr. is a computer specialist and owner/​founder of On The Spot Computer Repairs (OTSCR). Repairing computers as a hobby David quickly found himself fixing computers for acquaintances and people in his community. The word started spreading and David was then fixing computers on a regular basis, leaving his clients content with the results and more importantly, the very affordable prices.

From repairing computers, Davids expertise grew and he was soon taking orders to build custom-​made computers from scratch. With great success in his work, client satisfaction, and a drive to bring his services to a broader audience, David decided to turn his hobby into a small business in his community and expand it to surrounding areas.

It is his belief that no one should pay more for their computer’s worth to get their computer to work, and thus this has become the OTSCR’s slogan.

This is a top notch shop and I cannot imagine receiving better service from anyone else. I had purchased parts and was attempting to assemble my first PC. Naturally I did a poor job with the wiring and had the processor overheating within minutes of the initial boot up. I shopped around for a couple days before deciding to trust David and OTSCR with fixing my issues. Not only did David fix the issues, he cleaned up all of the wiring and reinstalled the OS, Drivers, etc. so that my system was 100% good to go by the time It was back in my control.
David will work with you to ensure your system is up and running the way it should be. For him, the customer experience and satisfaction comes first, and the money second. It was a really refreshing experience and I plan to go back to OTSCR for all of my computer needs going forward. To put it bluntly, you are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t consider OTSCR for handling your computer needs. Wish these guys nothing but the best.

As a potential customer visiting the shop for the first time, I would expect that a new shop (and definitely not a premium shop) would understand the market. Thus my experience here was negative since the shop did not address my issues, which was their pricing.
I came here to get some work done on my computer. Disregarding the fact that the operation is out of a second floor apartment, the labor prices are extreme. The work needed to be done on my computer should take not more than 30 minutes AT MOST.
On the Spot quote = $ 120 @ 4 – 5 hour wait time
Microcenter = $ 80 @ 2 – 3 day wait time
Professional Geeks = $ 75 @ 1 hour wait time
Needless to say, I chose one of the other Cambridge options. It’s important to make sure customers know when a place is excessively charging. $ 120 excluding parts is a RIDICULOUS rate.

I went to OTSCR becuase i have gaming desktop i was attempting to build myself. Being that it is my first build, i needed help and David finished the build the next day after i dropped it off 15 minutes after closing time. All the led lights, cable management and parts fit perfectl ! I couldnt be happier with his work. I would highly recommend this place !! The price is also fair and competitive.

Nothing shy of a straightforward two-​thumbs-​up would do On The Spot justice. I sought them out recently for some hardware surgery on an older-​but-​reliable laptop of mine — something I knew I’d be in over my head attempting solo.
These guys do service call business properly — honest and direct with an impressive level of anticipatory thinking. They wouldn’t take my case without first going over what could go wrong, and when they would be able to establish it and notify me.
Good due diligence on their part; that said, they got the job done without a hitch and super quickly. I’m now the proud operator of a laptop that’s been aching for a solid-​state hard drive for years, but required too much breakdown and reassembly for me to handle on my own.
Pricing: fair, costs and risks: well-​explained, repair: quick, people: pleasant. In short, I hope I won’t need any more computer repair anytime soon, but I’ll happily take my business back to On The Spot anytime.
Icing on the cake: When I mentioned it was a harder-​than-​usual hard drive swap, they had located service instructions and were figuring out what they’d need to do right there over the phone about fifteen seconds after I gave them my laptop make and model. Pretty darn good.

These guys are the best! I dropped my laptop and it wouldn’t charge anymore. They not only told me the problem with it immediately, but also helped me find another company that specifically works on that. It took them twenty minutes but they charged me nothing. They are like nonforprofit good. I recommend it to everyone.

Stunningly good — and honest — service. I was in Boston/​Cambridge on a business trip and discovered that my laptop (Thinkpad X220) screen had shorted out. I found On the Spot Computer Repairs by consulting Unilocal,and the excellent reviews convinced me to give them a try. About an hour later, my screen was replaced (they had an exact match in stock!) and good as new. The fee was extremely reasonable, and the communication (they called my cell to provide updates) perfect. Maybe best of all, the people were incredibly friendly, especially to my young son, whom they made feel at home. One of the best consumer experiences I’ve had in a long, long time.

The got data off my broken computer in just a few hours for a very reasonable price. They’re also honest: I agreed to a higher quote over the phone, but when I got their to pick up my computer, they told me that they’d given me the wrong quote and that I’d owed them about half of what I’d agreed to. Very impressive.

Back in my country (Argentina) I was told that my Samsung ultrabook’s trackpad was coming out of place because of a blow, but in OTS confirmed what I thought: it was the battery swelling. They told me from the beginning how much was it going to cost to order it and replace it, no surprises. They were patient, considerate and really nice people! All I can say is that there isn’t many honest computer repair places left. I spoke to David at on the spot computer repairs about a Sony that I had that would not start. He took the time and explained to me my best options in dealing with a Z top of the line computer that also would be a top of the line repair. Rather then gouge me on repairs (like many computer repair places I had been to) he basically told me options that were more economical and honest. I sincerely was shocked how honest he was and how easily he could have made more money on me but didn’t. I would highly recommend anyone that is looking for computer repair with an honest fix and opinion to look at on the spot computer repair.

Gracious people, the Matthewses helped me carry my heavy, old CPU up and down the stairs. I took 2 of my laptops here to be fixed. One was older and I just needed Windows reinstalled on it. The other I had recently dropped (oh no!) and it wasn’t doing much of anything. David talked me through everything and gave me a quote and said it’d be done in a couple of days. Two days later, he called back. The older laptop’s BIOS was corrupted so there was nothing they could do for that but they fixed the other one and it seemed as good as new, minus the cracked front corner from when I had dropped it. I got home and was playing around with it and then noticed that the speakers weren’t working. I dropped it off the following week and they had it fixed within an hour and didn’t charge me any more than what I originally paid. His whole family is really nice too and whatever they were cooking in there the 2nd time I visited smelled amazing!

Make yourself at home at this Computer «school nurse». The next best thing to Mom doing computer repairs. Very good advice to cost you As Little As Possible. They will advice buying parts on your own and ONLY charge for LABOR. I would go here & tell the Apple Store about your problem to learn something about your beloved PC or Mac!

I walked in, he listened to my problem, gave me a quote, and told me he would call me when he was done.
He called me back earlier than expected and had all of the work finished. The price was more than fair, the quality of his work was great, and I will definitely go back.
