Moose and Mimi

I came here for a swedish massage about a month ago. it was very nice and my masseuse was great however i lost my appointment card and completely forgot to call, I work a lot and it slipped my mind. I received an email today titled «M&M Appointment Reminder». Enclosed in the email was a brief message saying I was being reminded with no info. I got a call at 5:30 today to ask where I was. explained to the front desk staff that I had forgotten and was at work and that I got an email with no info. She was just as dumbfounded as I. She was very apologetic and had no idea and we rescheduled no problem. I thanked her and went back to work. Maybe 10 minutes later I got somewhat of a cheeky call from the owner, Chris. Telling me that it was a confirmation email, which the words confirm and remind have two different meanings but I digress. He also told me that it is not up to me to keep track of my card given to me, which i’m human people lose things and that this is now a confirmation of the new appointment and should i not cancel within 24 hours, I need to put a card on file so it can be charged which there is not authorization from me to do so. Upset, I called back and got chris on the phone. i explained that his message was kind of rude and that he needs to educate his staff as the girl who called was also confused and that i would like my appointment cancelled. He proceeded to «yeah» and «mhm» me then hung it went silent and he hung up on me! very rude and very unprofessional. I do hope that my appointment was cancelled for ⁰⁶⁄₁₉ at 11am and I sincerely suggest that my card not be charged as I have given notice. I won’t be returning.

I’ve given Moose and Mimi many chances because I live very close to them. I’ve had a variety of the services they offer. Up to now my feeling has been that they are a mediocre waxing, facial, massage service, but that it was worth it for the less than optimal service because their prices were reasonable and their location was convenient. Some individuals are much better than others and their massage segment seems to be the weakest.
However, my last experience with them was so appalling that I am never going back. My mother was in town for the weekend and since she suffers from arthritis and leg pain and I’m 7 months pregnant I thought it would be nice for us to get two relaxology massages simultaneously. I scheduled the appointments for Saturday at 5 pm.
On Saturday at 11 AM (6 hours before the service) they called to cancel because of a «family emergency» and asked when I wanted to reschedule for. I then rescheduled for Sunday at 4 PM. They then left a message on my phone at 2 PM on Sunday (2 hours before the service) canceling again, this time without a clear excuse that I could make out in the message. (Both times I spoke with someone called Hannah). The worst part was I didn’t have my phone on me and we were rushing back from doing touristy things so when I showed up to Moose and Mimi at 3:50 we waited outside for 20 minutes before I realized that they weren’t coming. I can’t tell you how disappointing it was, not only because I desperately wanted a massage because of all my aches and pains, but because I really wanted to do something nice for my mom and we rushed back from our other activities to make the massage. Then when I called their service number I couldn’t even get to a mailbox for Moose and Mimi to leave a message about the terrible experience or talk to the manager and they are closed until Tuesday. Meanwhile, if I had pulled the same shenanigans I would have been charged for the full services because 24 hour cancelation is required.
Anyways, I’m never going back to this place and I’m going to make sure everyone I know knows how terrible their services are. As a local home owner they just lost a lot of potential business. For massage you are definitely better off going to Inman Oasis or Massage Envy than this place. For waxing and facials I would rather go back to Payara Aveda Salon.

Not very pleasant. The deep tissue massage was rough and mostly painful. The environment of the place was meh, and sometimes noisy.

Great place! I forgot my bike lock and the sweet receptionist offered to let me keep my bike inside, which was such a life-​saver! I got a waxing with Sadaf and she has such a relaxing aura about her and she’s great at what she does. My best waxing experience. Very clean, cute, and good pricing. I’ll def be coming back!

This place is great! Truly a hidden gem of the Inman area. Here’s what I like about M&M.
1. Location, easy to get to
2. Logistics. Very easy to set up an appointment. They log you in their systems, and send you emailed reminders etc. Staff at front desk is super helpful and nice.
3. Very reasonable prices!
4. Great massages! Eva is superb and makes my back feel great. Daniel is also top notch.
5. M&M has a very casual non pretentious low key vibe.
Overall, I have been very satisfied with Moose and Mimi. I would definitely tell my friends and family to go there.

Brand new receptionist first day and all. Went about April 16^th. Very helpful, sweet, and accommodating. Wish her luck. Great place experience. Lovely atmosphere.

GeGe is so fantastic. Total incentive to get more than my normal yearly massage — I’ll be back monthly!

I almost never care enough to leave reviews, but I just used a Groupon for a 60-​min Swedish massage with Eva at Moose and Mimi, and it was GREAT. The place is adorable, the vibe is friendly and relaxing the minute you walk in the door (I loved that they use laminated paperwork so they can just enter the info, then wipe the page, and save paper!), and the massage was really fantastic. I was having major neck and shoulder issues, and Eva found the exact problem areas immediately. She asked for feedback, listened, and was just generally excellent.
And they just lowered their prices (first time I’ve heard that around here!), so I feel like I can actually afford to go back without having to chase Groupons around town, for once. And unlike other not-​$ 100/​hour places I’ve tried, I will go back without hesitation. Thanks!

I get massages regularly and I must say the massage I got at Moose & Mimi’s was one of the BEST! The cost was 49.00!!! I have paid double this price at other local spas and the massage I got from David at moose & Mimi’s was far superior! ! I have also had foot spa Reflexology here that were also AMAZING!’
The atmosphere as you walk in is serene and relaxing as well as welcoming! The entire place is spotless! I HIGHLY recommend Moose & Mimi’s !

This place is super cute, very relaxing and cozy!
I got a facial from Shannon, she was AMAZING. She was so friendly and helpful with letting me know what my skin needed, and made some great recommendation for products. During the facial I was so relaxed, she had a very calming energy.
I will definitely be back, my skin felt amazing after seeing her!

Moose and Mimi is a great add to Inman Square! I had both a facial and a massage there and really loved the treatments. If you are in need of some relaxation in Inman, I highly recommend Moose and Mimi!

I so, so wanted – and want – to love this place, for myriad reasons (it’s in my neighborhood; it’s adorable; I love the cute and unpretentious nature of the venture), but my experience wasn’t ideal, and I’m still a bit annoyed by it. Here goes:
My husband and I purchased Living Social vouchers for massages and decided we’d go in at the same time, then have dinner at Pilgrim (something we’ve done, in the past, at Inman Oasis up the street). When I called to book the appointments, the woman on the phone said, «So you want a couples massage.» I explained that we didn’t, we just wanted massages at the same time, but not necessarily in the same room. She argued with me, insisting that if she gave us the same time slot, then it qualified as a couples massage. I explained that we had these Living Social vouchers for regular massages and she said, «Oh, you can use them. It’s all the same.»
Of course, we went in, had our massages (more on this in a sec), handed over the vouchers, and the man at the front desk – one of the owners, it turned out – said, «Oh, you can’t use these. You had a couples massage.» I explained what happened when we booked the appointment, and he said, «Yeah, the person you spoke with is new. I’ll have to talk to her about this.» I was, of course, thinking, «Um, that’s not really my problem — that your new employee gave me misinformation. And forced us to have a couples massage that we didn’t want!»
The pricing, by the way, was on par with a place like Bliss or Exhale. So, high. But the facilities are not even remotely on that level and nor was the massage or the experience overall. Also, the couples massage cost more than two individual massages, which makes no sense at all. So, on to that.
We arrived somewhat early, filled out our paperwork, and then waited, and waited. The front desk guy, somewhat peevishly, kept telling us that the previous people had arrived late, so they were running behind. (And, again, I felt like, «This isn’t my fault. Why are you mad at me?) Finally, they brought us into a bare bones, dingy room, with an air conditioner blasting, and told us to take off our clothes. We did so, but there was… nowhere to put them.
The massage itself, for me, was fine. Not the best I’ve ever had. But not the worst. The weirdest thing about it was: The massage therapist asked if anything was bothering me. I said my head and neck were quite sore. And she, bizarrely, pretty much ignored those areas. My husband’s therapist was pretty terrible. So terrible he left feeling more tense than when we walked in.
Throughout it all, we were freezing, and listening to weird and random music on a cheap iPod dock, which kept malfunctioning. Every five minutes or so, my therapist stopped what she was doing and went over to the dock to mess with it, which was incredibly annoying, and meant that I couldn’t ever lose myself in the massage or relax.
All in all, I would seriously not recommend Moose and Mimi for massage. It’s been a few months since this experience, and I’m honestly still angry about it. We spent way more money than we intended, on something we didn’t want (we wanted to be in separate rooms), and were offered no compensation at all for someone else’s mistake, and to top it off, the service for which we paid wasn’t particularly great.

I’ve had such great experiences here. I started coming early in my pregnancy and Eva, the masseuse assigned to me was very well equipped to give me a massage. She was very knowledgeable about what areas to be sensitive about at each stage of the pregnancy. But she is also really amazing at feeling for knots and tension in my back and getting them out. Prices here are the most reasonable that I’ve seen. I’m going to keep coming back for the rest of my pregnancy and beyond — because I will most definitely be needing Eva’s help.

I left this massage more stressed than when I came in for it. I told the masseuse to stop after 10 minutes and left.
We had originally went for a couples massage. The two masseuses were one male and one female. The female masseuse was massaging my girlfriend and I had the male. The male was using only one hand for the entire massage — which I thought was ridiculous. Clearly not a seasoned masseuse and also obviously not into the massage. He was hitting all the wrong spots. For example: he did my back without even touching my shoulders! He spent half the time pressing my elbows against the side of the table which was painful. Also, tone of his voice was not very receptive to feedback.
Worst massage ever. I was looking forward to this after a stressful weekend and it bombed my expectations.

Blaine, the Friday evening masseuse, worked some magic on my neck/​shoulder. I had a stiff neck that caused me quite a bit of pain when I turned my head right. Not sure if I slept wrong, I was too stressed or if I injured it but i knew it had to go. By the time I came in for a massage I had been suffering for 3 days and I wanted my right side peripheral vision back. Blaine did what I believe was a massage and pressure point combination and after the hour was up I was able to turn my head again. Hooray! The location is convenient, it is nice and relaxing atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. I would certainly come back again.

Off to a good start for the second session in my series by finding parking right out front and arriving on time!
And the experience was much better than last time. I actually got one of the massage rooms. And I Love that Eva massaged from head to toe. She was friendly and checked in to make sure pressure was good.
On a side note, Mimi acknowledged my last review and asked for feedback. My main suggestions to them are to:
— avoid setting up behind the mani/​pedi area since it’s hard to relax while listening to everyone’s conversation in the open area.
— set up some type of signage at that space if they continue to use it so that someone doesn’t accidentally walk in
— ask masseuse not to work on a bone as if it were a knot.
— if a customer misses their appointment or arrives late, they typically lose time from their session. So if the M&M scheduling team made a mistake with the clients request then they should offer to make it right somehow instead of suggesting that the customer take an alternate option or reschedule. I already had to move my schedule around to make it for the specific masseuse

M&M, I really wanted to love you. Ever since moving back from overseas where I regularly had massages and facials, I’ve been looking for a local place near me. So when I saw a Gilt City deal for a massage, I purchased it, made an appointment AND also booked a facial in the same go.
On that call (with Chris), I asked about the tipping policy since I want to make sure I tip correctly (and my time overseas has muddled what is considered «typical» here in the US). He seemed put off by my question and instead of answering graciously, replied curtly that 20% was always expected. I’m more than fine with that, but I was surprised by his tone.
The massage was very so-​so and was 50, not 60 minutes long. I was confused by the discrepancy in time since I hadn’t seen the fine print on the website about it. When I asked, responses were again curt both from the masseuse and from Chris (I would’ve appreciated a kinder response given that it’s an honest question. And if the first person had answered my question instead of just saying «it’s 50,» I wouldn’t have add to ask both of them… sheesh). The facial was better in terms of quality compared to the massage, but I’ve also had better.
I think the thing that really pushed this towards the negative for me is that Chris tried to charge me for a deep tissue massage (that I didn’t ask for or receive) at check-​out. I corrected him, but I think that was the last straw. It doesn’t «feel good» to have so many negative interactions somewhere I hope to go regularly and relax.
I tipped the 20% because it’s «expected,» but I won’t be back.

I can’t stop raving to friends and family about the deep tissue massage that I received from therapist Daniel. I literally called my mom immediately afterwards to share my experience because I was so impressed. Daniel has a way of working on the muscles with exactly the right amount of pressure and I have never had someone be so in tune with my body and know exactly what it needs and can handle. He also kept constant physical contact in some way (a hand resting lightly on my back or shoulder, etc) as he moved from area to area and this was really powerful and soothing. He is truly a genius at his craft and has incredible energy. When I got off the table at the end I felt re-​balanced, revived, and incredibly grateful for such a special experience.
Moose and Mimi has a very warm and inviting atmosphere as well and I’m definitely eager to try some of their other services based on my massage experience. And, of course, I can’t wait to go back for another session with Daniel!

The place itself is warm and welcoming, front desk staff was friendly. I liked the paper saving intake method. You write down your info on some laminated paper which can be wiped clean and used over and over again.
The spa was able to accommodate an appointment request on relatively short notice which was appreciated.
The heater in the massage room was so loud it was impossible to block it out giving you the impression you are getting a massage by a construction site.
The massage itself was very weak, barely feeling like someone was rubbing oil on my skin. Not the best feeling. Even though I explained knots in my shoulders, the therapist spent no time trying to work those out.
My massage therapist was late. I layed down on the table 12min after the hour and she ended the massage 8min before the hours, barely 40min out of a 60min massage.
I left feeling like I wasted my time and money.

I called to book an appointment at Moose and Mimi for the same day (weekday) and they were able to fit me in quite easily.
My massage therapist was Larry who was great. I told him I wanted to focus on my upper back and we decided to forgo a full body massage and just spend the 60 mins on my upper back — which felt amazing.
Moose and Mimi seemed to be a quiet casual spa. I love that their treatments have a broad price range and can be as affordable or indulgent as my budget allows.
I’ll be back to try their other services.
