Specialties

We offer classes for making Nantucket Baskets and have a nice Island-​themed gift shop including accessories, clothing, houseware and gift items. We also sell high end Nantucket Baskets, and Nantucket Basket making tools, supplies & materials.

Our Nantucket baskets are specially hand picked for their fine detail and quality craftsmanship, and are authentically crafted by established Nantucket basket makers and scrimshanders. We also carry items made from whale bone, tagua nut, and ivory. All of the ivory in our store is prehistoric mammoth or recycled ivory.

Our Nantucket basket making materials include: molds, bases, lids, handles etc., and have been crafted locally in Massachusetts.

We also offer classes for felted wool making.

History

Established in 2006.

We opened our doors in Cambridge, MA in January of 2006, and we’re happy to join our neighbors on Huron Ave.

Meet the Business Owner

Etsuko Y.

Business Owner

Etsuko personally chooses all the special gifts in our store and she is the head instructor of the Nantucket Basket making classes at GrayMist. Born and raised in Tokyo, Etsuko has since moved to Boston, and has lived in the Greater Boston Area since 1994. She is an accomplished master Nantucket Basket maker who has trained under the renowned basket maker, Alan S.W.Reed. Her baskets are displayed annual at the Nantucket Basket Museum in Nantucket. She has published a book about the craft in Japan and has organized many Nantucket Basket exhibits in Japan. Etsuko’s shares her love and passion for the craft with many students and instructors in the US and Japan.
