Crate Escape too is a dog specialty store located in the tiny Huron Village. In addition to selling all the top doggie brands, foods, treats and toys. Crate Escape too is a small doggie daycare. Catering to pups 35lbs or less with out door space and temperature controlled indoor space. We do it all. With a high standard of care, we provide daycare, van service, overnight boarding and grooming. We are completely invested in getting to know your dogs and providing them with the best experience possible. Our staff is carefully selected, well-​trained and experienced. We focus every day on giving your dog playtime, comfort and safety. We are proud of our success and we look forward to providing play space for many dogs to come. Our loyal customers are our best testament.

History

Established in 2006.

Established in 2006 Crate Escape is the sister store of Raining Cats and Dogs… Raining started as a specialty pet store in Huron Village. The doggie daycare aspect came a little later. As the neighbors in Huron Village fell in love with the new little store, so did their dogs. One day a customer asked owners Bradley and Stephanie… «can you watch my dog for a few hours?»

Watching the occasional neighborhood dog eventually turned into watching many neighborhood dogs… then word spread of this great «doggie daycare»… and we needed more space! Crate Escape was born.

Summer of 2011 Raining Cats and Dogs was renovated and renamed Crate Escape too!

Winter of 2013 our Belmont store moved from 20 Flanders Rd. Belmont to 30 Brighton St. Belmont. 28 days later our third Crate Escape opened in Charlestown! Cambridge. Belmont. Charlestown

i am disabled and have never been treated with such inhumanity. in less than 5 minutes they almost seriously injured my little dog, gave me the runaround regarding boarding, and then in the final hour cancelled just as i am about to leave the country for life-​saving treatments for an incurable disease. shame on these people. i wouldn’t trust them with a specialty breed anyway. the manager never returned my phone call and never offered an apology after admitting they made a mistake (but not owning up to all of them). never again. so disappointed. we had always had such good experiences here before i was disabled.

My dog *loves* going here. At first, he was a little nervous and anxious being in a new spot and away from us (he’s usually with his people all day). But after just a few visits, he’s barking in excitement to go in and play with his friends. I love that you don’t need an appointment for dog day care, so we will just drop him off if we won’t be home and he comes home happy and tired.

Love, love, love Crate Escape too. The managers and employees are really personable. They love telling me funny things that my dog Zoe does during the day. They are always eager to help answer questions about treats, food, clothing (I got Zoe a sweater here in Oct 2013 and she has received a number of compliments on it). The guys and gals who work here make sure all the dogs get along and even give them hugs and carry them around when the pups are extra needy. Love this place and would recommend anyone with small to medium dogs to go here. In the summer, the outdoor space is available for the dogs to play as well (which is a huge plus).

There are not enough words to explain how wonderful the staff is here. As a first time dog owner, I have received calls at work when my pup is sick, tips when I pick him up on how to fix ailments, and they are beyond accomodating and flexible with my busy schedule, both professionally and personally. It is pricey, however, given the phenomenal service and attention from this place, I have never once hesitated paying their rates.
I am very lucky to have found such a caring establishment, convenient to home and work and my pup is one lucky little guy to get to play there as often as he does! Thank you Crate Escape Too! (RCD)

Great all-​natural dog treats & food. Nice accessories and well organized but, the shelves and products on the shelves need to be dusted. It was the sole reason i didn’t purchase the treats because they were dusty. Seems petty but its the little details and attention to such matters as this that make a difference in my shopping experience.

Our dog Max has major separation anxiety and is a full-​time student at the Raining Cats and Dogs school for fur kids. We’ve been taking him there since we got him last September, and they are consistently amazing — so good to the animals and friendly to the humans. They really care about the dogs and are so sweet to our boy. So happy we found them!

I have got to tell you this place is amazing! They are so kind, caring and friendly.
Our dog Molly goes to doggie daycare there a few days a week and absolutely loves it. She comes home so happy and tired (the true sign of a great doggie daycare).
Just to give you an idea of how impressive they are, on Molly’s birthday they sent her a birthday card in the mail! What a nice little touch.
Also, they have a really nice shop with all sorts of dog toys, treats, food, etc. which offers a great variety and wonderful grooming services (through their sister location — Crate Escape)
I’d definitely recommend them.

They love our dog almost as much as we do.
Goose the dog is preposterously happy at RC&D and their not-​at-​all-​evil twin, Crate Escape. He plays all day, non-​stop, with the other dogs there. (RC&D posts video of it on their facebook page to prove it!) He cries a little bit when it is time to leave. Then he comes home and sleeps — usually a ratio of two units of completely conked-​out dog for every one unit of time spent at RC&D.
We just got back from a quick out-​of-​town weekend where we left the Goosester at RC&D. We were gone for two days and picked him up Monday morning. He was delighted; now he’s asleep, and we don’t expect to hear from him until Thursday evening.

I really love the doggie day care here. I was having surgery with an inpatient hospital stay, and didn’t figure out until a couple of days in advance that we would need dog care as well as child care and home nursing, etc. Once we lined up her vaccination papers and they got a chance to meet her, they were super-​accommodating about letting her come for many days on very short notice, having sitters and different people drop her off at different times, and making sure she wasn’t too anxious in a new environment (she’s a rescue dog.) Most excellent kennels or day care facilities have an extended process to get new dogs in, but they accelerated everything for us, just out of the goodness of their hearts. She’s been back several times since, always enjoys herself, and the people are super-​friendly and very caring. Such a boon to have them here, and to know that they are so reliable and friendly!

As a cat owner, this shop seems to be raining way more dogs than cats. But as a dog enthusiast, I’m okay with that. I dropped in to look around at pet supplies, but ended up petting a gorgeous wolf hound who poked his head up over the doggy daycare wall to say hello. The staff was ridiculously friendly, and of course, so were the dogs. I didn’t end up finding anything for my cats, but if I ever become a dog owner, this place will certainly be on my radar.

Sadly Oscar hasn’t been in Cambridge for 6 months now, but the AMAZING job that Raining Cats & Dogs has done on transforming his behavior still stands.
We’re now in San Diego and have been to the dog park a few times. He’s great with all of them! Where before he would bark and get annoyed, now its non-​stop tail wagging.
They really are great at watching and making sure the dogs are well behaved.
When we move back to Cambridge, we’ll definitely be back!

I’ve been taking my dog to day care at Raining Cats & Dogs for a few months now. He’s gone from being really submissive and skittish around other dogs to more comfortable/​playful with other pooches under their care. When I first started bringing him, the staff were really great about making sure to slowly introduce him to the other dogs so that he wasn’t overwhelmed or too nervous. They seemt to really understand doggy behavior.
The staff there seem to love all the dogs that come in, and give them all time to play and snuggle on the couches. Whenever I come in the staff are sitting on the couches/​chairs covered with all sort of dogs in various stages of sleep.
The other benefit? When my dog comes home at night he is pooped from a full day of play!

Cute store, friendly folk, good selection. Some of the things are pricey. Okay, most of the things are pricey. Cambridge pricey, not Boston sky-​high pricey. But great quality! So, find something you really like and shell out the money for it because you will be pleased.
The day care is a bit strange to me. I never see the dogs play (I used to live right down the street and was in frequently for treats). They look happy enough but they all just sit around and I don’t see anyone providing stimulation for them. That being said, minus the lack of play and fun the people do seem to treat the dogs well, so that is a plus.
Yummy and healthy treats and food available too.

Has Fido been lonely, sitting at home all alone by himself? Still feeding him that tired, played out Alpo when you know an organic dog cake is what he’s been craving? Raining Cats & Dogs has the goods… a doggie daycare for Fido to romp amongst his peers (and their sister store, Crate Escape, for larger dogs)…organic and other health conscious foods for Fido and Fluffy to feast upon. My cat, Charlie, can’t get enough of the Kitty Caviar. Go here if you have a dog or just got a hankerin’ to hang out with one. The staff all either have dogs or just plain love ‘em and they’ll treat yours like he (or she) was family.
