Cambria Pines Lodge is a unique property with 152 rooms and suites located on 25 acres of beautiful gardens and Monterey pines halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. More than a dozen types of accommodations assure a good match with almost any taste and budget. Other features include a heated outdoor pool and spa, sand volleyball court, Sojourn Day Spa, and a nature trail leading down to Cambria village.

A full breakfast buffet is available every morning. Lunch includes a soup and salad bar with organic greens (when available) as well as menu items. History

Established in 1927.

Legend has it that a European baroness built the original lodge as a personal retreat to be close to the social mecca of Hearst Castle. When her husband objected with an ultimatum for her to return home, she sold the property to the Cambria Land Development Company, which then used it to house prospective buyers. Over the years, the property changed hands many times as cabins, hotel rooms, and suites were built on various portions of the acreage.

In January 1991, the original building burned to the ground. The current Main Lodge bulding opened in June 1993 and has been attracting visitors from all over the world ever since. New rooms and suites, along with improvements to the older rooms, keep this property in the forefront of local lodging options.

As the only hotel in Cambria offering a restaurant, lounge, pool, and day spa, Cambria Pines Lodge has evolved into the perfect choice for those wishing to find a vacation spot where they can do as much – or as little – as they want.

We like staying here when we drive through this area. This time we are in room 911 which is listed as a «superior room». Fireplace has a barely visible flame. It’s sort of cabin like. Has a back patio. Comfortable beds, tiny desk, no drawers, nice bathroom, good toilet paper. Shower has little sprays of water. A nice room. The place overall is interesting. Nice gardens and a good free breakfast.

I stayed here with my wife recently as an anniversary getaway. We ended up getting an awesome deal through Travelzoo (2 nights in a large suite, dinner for two at the onsite restaurant including a bottle of house wine, wine tasting vouchers to about 10 different local wineries and a buy one, get one free dinner entrée at Linn’s restaurant for $ 279). They run these package deals quite often so make sure you take advantage of them. It sounds like some of the rooms are a little dated but we must have gotten a remodeled one cause it was in great shape and very clean. The beds weren’t the most comfortable but I still slept ok. They give you a free breakfast buffet each morning of your stay. It was very good, definitely above average for an included breakfast. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay and you can’t beat the value we got with the Travelzoo deal. I will definitely keep my eye out for another package deal.

Upland, CA
Serenely Beautiful place! Great place to stay nestled in a sort of forest. No direct access to beaches, but 5 minutes away by car. Highly recommended if one isn’t interested in being near the water, or having an ocean view. As Michael, a friendly maintenance worker at the place, said, «you can hear the ocean at night.» My wife loved that quote. She repeated it all the way back to Vomitville, So Cal.

Wonderful memories! My husband and I were married almost a year ago at Cambria Pines in the beautiful garden. Bethany helped us from the very beginning, she was always there by phone or email to answer any and all of our questions. Most all of our family and friends stayed at the lodge for the weekend and it couldn’t have been better, with the restaurant, bar, and the band my family had a blast. Family and friends are still posting pictures from that weekend! I had initially had my heart set on a beach wedding but after I saw the grounds and the lovely gazebo garden area and all of the amenities Cambria Pines offered I was won over. I would definitely get married at the Lodge if I were to do it again. It will always be a place my husband and I can go back to and have wonderful memories!

My friends and family booked seven rooms here for my wedding weekend. The facilities are nice and the grounds are pretty if unfinished, and the property would have gotten four or five stars from me, but most of the staff was rude and unhelpful.
For example, the woman who checked us in was short with us and grumpy and did not explain the amenities. Similarly, when my then-​fiancée called to see whether several items we had shipped to the hotel had arrived and asked for a late checkout for the next morning, the night clerk told her that he was too busy to help her and that she needed to call back in the morning. Really? To help a customer?
Then, when my family members tried to gather the nights before and after my wedding for drinks, we tried to find a space that was not in the hot, crowded, and loud bar (there is always live music). We were told that we could not gather in the outdoor seating area behind the lodge because of concerns about vandalism. (So we look like vandals?) So we gathered on the front porch instead. Fair enough, but on the second night we were told that we could not sit there either. (In fairness, it was apparently okay if we stood there, but moving a bench four feet so we could sit together was not.) We were not being loud, we were not disturbing anyone, and we were buying drinks from their bar.
In sum, this property has a lot of potential, but as long as its staff treats customers like they are doing us a favor by letting us stay with them, it will not be a place that I will recommend.

Thus far we have had an unpleasant experience, we purchased the «newest renovated room» and it is still very outdated. No air conditioning, tears in the carpet, no clothing storage except for the closet that is poorly laid out, no storage in the bathroom, the bed is extremely uncomfortable along with the cheap pillows. The bathroom shower is not very clean, rusted shower head, with an unsanitary approach to lining the shower, and poor lighting. I would honestly recommend staying just about anywhere but here.

What a charming property! We came for four days in March and felt welcome and at home immediately. We checked in and were directed to our room as there are many separate cottages on the property. We found it easily with their directions and loved the room.
We later ventured out on to the grounds to do some exploring with the kids. My boy (10) and girl (8) were in awe of the plant and wile life. Grounds keepers were all over the property giving us welcomed suggestions at where to go or what we may like to see. We all thoroughly enjoyed the heated pool and jacuzzi.
Now the breakfast included with the stay is worth the five stars all on it’s own. We ate like kings during our stay. The buffet style breakfast included everything we could want from eggs, sausage, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, fresh muffins, bagels, cereal, granola, yogurt, and coffee, orange juice and tea. We piled our plates high every morning and the staff was so gracious.
The on site restaurant is incredible too. All of the staff were wonderful and made us feel like family. We are going to make this our place to stay the next time we visit Cambria!

Wanted 3.5 rating… Nice pool/​jacuzzi, foresty lodge vibe. Had a HUGE suite with 2 fireplaces, 1 of which worked. high ceilings, nice patio to which a deer family visited.
I would not give 5 stars because worst pillows I have ever had in a hotel, no robes available, no magnifying mirror or special amenities in bathroom, average service.

This is tough to decide between a 3 or 4. I’m think I’m giving 3 for value.
Now, you do get free breakfast — awesome! And it was nice. About what you’d get at any hotel for free.
The rooms are beautiful. Fireplace, tv, remodeled bathroom. They were great. However, the beds were horribly uncomfortable. And this is from a guy they loves his bed at home, but I sleep in the back of my car or on the ground all they time when I go camping and backpacking, which is quite a bit. I finally just gave up sleeping the second night because it is less painful to be groggy and tired than to attempt sleep on that «bed.» The pillows also sucked. Way too big, so they put your neck at a weird angle.
Free wifi with now password is always a plus. The water pressure sucked, which I know is the norm for coastal places, but that doesn’t
T mean I have to like it. And the shower door was installed at a weird angle, so getting in and out was awkward.
Anyway, I know this place gets crazy busy and expensive in the summer. It’s nice. It’s pretty, but I might just Airbnb if I’m here on-​season.

Our daughter posted photos of the gardens decked out in the winter light display, and we were intrigued. Since January is the best time to see the elephant seals with their pups and Cambria is a fifteen minute drive along the scenic coast from them, we booked two nights here, which worked out perfectly when combined with a Hearst Castle tour.
Look for their off season package which includes lower room rates and two entrees in their restaurant. The hotel called us a couple of days beforehand and recommended dinner reservations. Good thing, because the restaurant was packed. A full breakfast buffet is included with the room.
Rooms are modern, and range from separate cabins, suites, and newer two story hotel rooms scattered around their 26 acres, which includes a pool and spa. Our room had a presto log burning fireplace, excellent free wifi, large bathroom and a view over the Cambria pines. Ask for the top floor for a better view and less other room noise.
Dining here made it simple because we could wander from our room to the lounge via their lovely gardens, have dinner, which includes a very good bottle of their private label wine, and then stumble back to your pleasant room. Two nights are minimum to see the area, although you could book a single night.

The Cambria Pines Lodge sits on the hill overlooking Cambria. It is nestled on 26 acres with extensive gardens and landscaping around the cabins and buildings. The unit we stayed in is one of several large 2 story buildings with 8 – 10 units in each arranged on the perimeter of the property. The unit had 2 queen beds, fireplace with a sweeping view of the area. Our unit was comfy and remarkably quiet.
The Lodge’s amenities include a very nice pool/​hot tub area as well as extensive formal gardens which are delightful. Inside the main lodge building is a very good restaurant open for dinner, lunch and where they set out a wonderful breakfast buffett which was included in our room fee. There is also a bar/​lounge with a full bar. They have nightly entertainment.

My family and I came here for a short one night getaway and overall it’s been a relaxing and peaceful experience. I booked the dinner package in the deluxe suite and it fit 4 people extremely comfortably (can fit up to 6 people). The room contains a separate bedroom with a large king size bed and another Queen size Murphy bed.
The dinner package included two dinner entrees and a bottle of their house wine, which is bottled Castoro Cellars (one of my favorite wineries). I would skip out on the meal as I got food poisoning from the restaurant.
The staff is great and extremely friendly, room is cozy and warm. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family. Thank you for accommodating us Cambria Pine Lodge!

I purchased my room off Hotwire and I was not disappointed. We stayed there for the weekend for our honeymoon. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived Friday night and the place was lit up with Christmas lights, it was very festive. We ate at the restaurant the first night and the food was good as was the service.
The rooms are like suites (at least the one we stayed in #821) The rooms are large, 2 fireplaces, microwave, Fridge, dinning area, large bedroom with comfy bed and then there as a Murphy bed in the other room. There was also a nice balcony as well.
The room comes with free breakfast and it was quite a large spread, eggs, potatoes, sausage, bacon, pancakes, cereal (both cold and hot) coffee, juice, toast, muffins, biscuits and homemade salsa, there is something for everyone.

We have stayed here many times over the years for our Anniversaries. Back then, I would have given them 3 stars. Now, Wow! The place has been remodeled. We opened the door to a beautiful suite, with two fireplaces, new antique style furniture, a jacuzzi tub and a walk-​in shower! Dinner and buffet style breakfast was included in our package deal. We are already planning our next stay here. Thanks to our daughter for our Anniversary getaway.

I’ve stayed here a few times before and had a nice experience. Located in a small town of Cambria, quiet and quaint place. They have many rooms and your pets can stay here too for an additional charge. Of course they would put you in a pet friendly room. I really like this hotel. It feels like you’re away from everything and catching a breath of fresh air in the forest. The rooms that I’ve stayed in are clean but outdated. One of the rooms had a broken handle on the mini fridge. The best time to stay is during the Christmas holidays. They decorate the place and put up pretty twinkly lights. The main lodge where you check in and out is where they have the bar and restaurant. It’s always pretty busy. Sometimes you can get good deals from Travelocity like the package which includes your lodging, 2 dinner entrees and a bottle of wine. Don’t forget to make a reservation for dinner. They also give you 2 breakfast buffets. It’s a perfect getaway for 2 people who just want to relax. The location is very close to the Main Street where they have restaurants and stores.

Milpitas, CA
I got married here this past April, and cannot imagine getting married anywhere else. This location is one of Cambria’s best kept secrets. It is absolutely gorgeous with so many little surprises. At first sight, it looks like one main garden with a gazebo and an outdoor seating section for restaurant patrons. But then you walk around to find that there are multiple different gardens that you can wander and roam around, and it almost feels like you’re in the secret garden. There is a pathway that leads you to downtown Cambria and a light hiking pathway that leads you around the woodsy areas. Every spot in Cambria Pines is perfect for taking pictures. My photographer found so much inspiration in Cambria Pines itself, it was easy to do our photo shoot.
One of the things I loved about this place was that everything was on site. No driving, no need to give directions, no confusion. From the hotel rooms, you could easily walk about 5 minutes or less to the ceremony, and then turn around and walk a few feet for the cocktail hour. To get to the reception, all you had to do was go inside.
Bethany and Saul were amazing to work with. Bethany is the catering manager and is so helpful. I emailed and called her a million times and grilled her with so many questions, but she always stayed cheerful and friendly. Saul is the banquet manager, and he took care of the food, drinks, reception without a hitch. He made sure that my hubby and I never had an empty cup, that we ate our food and that the entire reception ran smoothly.
The only minor downfall is that if you have your reception indoors, you would really have to decorate. The reception room is not the prettiest place to be especially in comparison to the outside, and the chairs are homely. You would definitely have to rent the chivarri chairs they have on hand or chair covers elsewhere.
Other tidbits that may help if planning a wedding:
— fits up to 250 guests indoors (I had 200)
— need to use their catering (food is good! had buffet style with chicken, salmon & steak)
— prices are very doable!!! compared to most places up & down the coast, you will not find something this good in price for what you get
— if you have a big bridal party, they have cute adjoining bridal suite
— they also have a florist on-​site (but I used my own)

Ok, the only reason I have given them 3 stars is because there were spiders all over the room. I mean it was so bad that me and my wife slept in the living area on the couch.
Besides that the scenery was freaking awesome. The gardens, the ocean view up the street and the great food. There was an old Porsche club that were staying at the lodge so there were some great little cars all around the property. Moonstone Beach is just 5 min away so there are things to do around the area. I would go back only if they fix the spider issues. Oh and by the way, there is no AC in this place.

This is a really cool place for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
On this trip to Cambria we stayed down on Moonstone beach, but had a great Thanksgiving lunch here at the Pines Lodge. We were also fortunate to check out their Holiday Lights Trail show (which is really cool).
Thanksgiving Buffet lunch.
All the fixings that you would expect plus a carving station with prime rib. Everything met or exceeded expectations, the turkey was probably my least favorite out of everything, but the desserts were terrific. I would definitely come back for the Thanksgiving day lunch again.
The grounds.
While waiting for your lunch reservation there are plenty of gardens and paths to check out. Lots of photo opportunities!
Holiday Lights.
I wasn’t expecting this, but they also have an annual holiday lights show. This is not a few lights strung about their gardens, there are lights all along a very long walk that actually goes to a nearby gardening center. The lights and the walk were amazing. A must see if you’re in Cambria during this time of year.
In summation I enjoyed my visits to this lodge. Next time I’m going to actually try and stay here.

Garden Grove, CA
My wife and I stayed here for four days and had a really good experience. Usually we stay on moonstone beach which I think I prefer better but up in the woods where Cambria Pines Lodge is the price is about 50% less. Disadvantage is you can’t walk to the beach but this property has a lot to offer.
Since it’s nestled in the woods the property is adjacent to many hiking trails that are wide and well maintained for a a peaceful walk. We saw several deer wandering around and lots of wild quails. The property also has several walking trails thru secret gardens they’ve created so make sure you wander around the huge property. They’ll give you a map showing you where everything is.
I can see why this place has such mixed reviews based off the room types. We had a room that was unattached from anybody else. It was private, had it’s own parking, and it’s own private patio. It was very peaceful and serene. Other rooms were packed together like your standard motel rooms. Our room had a huge bedroom with king sized bed, a huge living room, and two fireplaces. Also had a full size jacuzzi tub which was in a separate room than the bathroom/​shower. The memory foam mattress was very comfortable.
Onsite attached to the check-​in lobby is a restaurant and there’s a bar with live music every night. We ate dinner at the restaurant the first night and had an amazing prime rib dinner. Each morning a breakfast buffet was served at no extra charge and it was very good. It had country potatoes, scrambled eggs, sausage, even rice congee one morning. All very good. One morning when walking to breakfast we saw a deer standing in the walk way eating grass. There’s also tons of cats around the property that will follow you around. One morning a turkey was standing behind my car! We attempted to visit the bar one night when the music was playing but it was 100% capacity and impossible to get anybody to take our drink order so we walked out.
Overall for the money this is a great location to visit.
