Channel Islands Urgent Care & Family Practice

Went in with a sinus infection and earache/​teeth aching. Was told to take mucinex d and ibuprofen over the counter for 10 days before doc would give antibiotics. When I called back 6 days later after taking those two things and having them not work at all and condition getting worse, the male receptionist told me they could not help me, use the Internet to get help!!! Not a reflection on the doctor but a bad reflection on the male receptionist with the rotten unhelpful attitude.

We have gone to Channel Islands Urgent Care several times through the years and have always found them efficient and helpful. We have seen Dr. Morin each time and been impressed with his demeanor and effectiveness. My teen appreciated the way he spoke directly to her, rather than talking to her parent. Thanks again!

Barely about to close and they won’t stay an extra 15 minutes past closing to attend to someone who has strep throat. It’s a simple 5 – 10 minutes of paperwork and 10 minutes for results on a throat swab. I wouldn’t call this place even if they were open.

This is just beyond the pale. You turn away a sick child and are not even closed! Even if you were about to close. Someone should be fired. I have four children and will never go here and will make sure others know.

If you post your hours until 5pm, keep the place open until 5pm. I showed up with a sick child at 4:40, and the doors were locked. No patients, but the place was filled with staff. One came to the door, and after consulting with someone else, determined that they couldn’t see us, upon my telling them that I think my child had a pretty straightforward illness, but needed to be seen.
I went, instead, to Exer Urgent Care, just a quick drive over the grade in Newbury Park, and was treated with respect, and seen quickly — and my child was diagnosed in about 15 minutes. I will not ever attempt to go here again.

I have been going to dr. Morin as my primary doctor. I have excellent PPO insurance, I could go to any doctor, in any clinic in town.
I also have a MS degree in public health. I started going to dr morin because the model of care and payment in this office is the answer to healthcare accessibility issues in the U.S. The office isn’t fancy, but I can always get an appointment for the day I call, usually within the hour and when I go, even though I don’t pay a dime, I know, the doctor knows and the staff know how much things cost. It is insane that in most offices you can’t get a basic cost list. Here they do it all, the visits, the lab work, x-​rays… All in one place. I love the convenience of that and it is important that the prices are fixed and transparent to consumers.
I have always seen dr. Morin on these visits and I am impressed with his broad and in depth knowledge. He is extremely efficient without making you feel like he is in a rush.
I would recommend Dr. Morin and the office for all of your regular physician needs. As far as urgent care goes, I bet many folks who feel they aren’t helped just don’t like hearing they are sick. With a virus. And they don’t just get a handful of pills that won’t do any good.

I’ve been going to Dr. Morin since 2007 he’s always has a very good patient bedside manner they are very knowledgeable about whatever is the current flu or cold epidemic, but general everyday stuff he’s really good at too. its also an urgent care clinic for a walk-​ins. if you need stitches, a flu shot or just need some aspirin for a headache.
I’m not a fan of the nurse practitioner she doesn’t listen, she makes you feel like a convict in an infirmary. she just wants to show you how much smarter she is than you are about your health. as long as you see DR. Morin your golden.

I have gone to C.I. urgent care occasionally over the past five years, and regret it every time. It is amazing how when you are ill or in pain, you desperately seek for a miracle regardless of past experiences. I have never had a good experience at C.I. urgent care.
I will begin by saying the nurses and office staff are polite and at times helpful. Unfortunately I have also struggled with office staff over billing errors, and had a miscommunication over an appointment time at another wonderful meeting at CI urgent care. I also don’t feel the nurses are professional or knowledgeable in their preparations for x-​rays and taking vitals, I feel I am giving pointers on what they should be doing.
Another problem is that I have only seen the doctor a couple times, all other visits have been with a nurse practitioner, which is cool if they know what they are doing. I had one nurse practitioner have a serious sit down with me in regards to her interpretation of the chart. She harshly chastised me for the difference in weight between the six months between visits, she told me I was obese and needed to take accountability for my life as she believed I had gained 40lbs. I allowed her to speak her mind then informed her she may want to read the chart again, she did and then congratulated me on my weight loss.
I have gone in for painful ear infections and migraines and was offered medications that offered no relief. I went in for a thumb nail infection and after a month of continuous pain went to another doctor and had to undergone a mild surgical procedure because it had become so bad. I have had several shoulder surgeries and a knee surgery, I understand pain and injuries, but the few times I visited C.I. urgent care I felt as though they were staring at me with a «what do you want me to do about it» look in their eye. While I was never able to completely voice my concerns to the Dr. or N. P, I always felt a little shot down when I would begin to speak up.
I will give credit to one nurse practitioner who was very helpful. I will also give credit to the ability to be seen on weekends and holidays… you may have to wait an hour, but at least they are open. I will also give credit to their relationship with insurance companies, it seemed to me to be very affordable and they take responsibility in contacting and billing the insurance and waiting.

They deserve 00000stars, staff was incredibly rude and the Dr. Flat out hung up on me as I was asking for the meds. You will only be seen by a Nurse Practitioner so if you need real help DO NOT GO HERE!!!

This is a great Urgent Care/​family practice !

I have been here more than I would have liked too. Who really wants to go to urgent care?! Between me and my three boys we have needed to come here and each time I never regretted it. Will you have to wait? Yes you will as with most places. But it beats going to the ER. For me the wait time is not excessive but it also depends on the time of day. In all my visits I have had the opportunity to be seen by a nurse practitioner and by Dr Morin. The NP’s do
A good job and are qualified. If you do not want to be seen by a NP make sure you call ahead and find out if the Dr will be in.
This place serves it’s purpose providing convenient medical care. Great hours 8:30 — 7 M-​F last patient seen at 6. 9 – 5 Saturday last patient seen at 4. Close to my home and great hours. I have recommended friends and family to this urgent care and they have been happy with the service. I incurred a late fee on a recent bill due to a delay on waiting for a reimbursement from my sons employer. I explained the situation and they reversed the late fee. I am very happy with the service here.

This is an update to my previous review. It really irks me to read these negative reviews. I love this practice and every single time I have come here, I have been treated above and beyond expectations. Wait times are short, facility is clean and the Staff treat you like gold. Ray and Dr. Morin expressed nothing short of compassion and understanding during my visit today. There are choices in Urgent Care in Camarillo but this one is BY FAR the best. Ray even called a second pharmacy because my wait time would be excessive at another. Kudos to you for the impressive client experience today!

Big mistake going here…
I thought I did my due diligence when researching this place… FAIL. I should have checked Unilocal!I checked out Dr. Morin’s licensing status and followed up with his education. So I was satisfied and called to set up an appointment. (1÷29÷14).
The purpose of my trip was to have my physical, (including blood draw) and feel the place out as a potential primary care physician (as suggested by my insurance provider). The Dr was about 45 minutes late for my appointment which was annoying, but he too seemed annoyed as I overheard him expressing this with his staff.
I told the first person who saw me and took my vitals the reason for my visit and that I also wanted a lab workup done on my blood. (Not sure if she was an RN/​LVN). Within 10 minutes, a team showed up to take my blood. No one asked me if I had anything to eat. Good thing I knew the rules and didn’t eat for 12 hours prior.
When I met with the Dr. he was very compassionate and professional as well as a pleasure to speak with. I thought he asked thorough questions and he spent an acceptable amount of time with me.
The ***HUGE*** problem is with the operation of his practice and staff.
I was told results from my blood work would be in their office within a few days. After a week, I called. They said someone would call me. Didn’t happen. I called two days later and the person on the phone got someone on the phone that said they didn’t get them yet in their «system». He said he would call them, get a copy, and fax them to me. He was true to his word, I got my results. He said he looked over my lab results and said everything looks okay! I asked him if he was a Doctor and he was not. (I followed up later and found out he was a medical assistant) I asked him if the Dr. was going to call me once he reviewed the results. He said either the Dr. or a Nurse Practitioner would call me in a little bit (2÷6÷14). I called back a couple hours later (almost the end of the day) and was promised a phone call by the next day. No offense, but I can read and don’t want a medical assistant giving me health advice. Several phone calls later, I finally reach a Nurse Practitioner (²⁄₁₉). She was less than pleasant (I’m being generous with my statement) and asked if I had any questions. I asked her if she was a Dr. or Nurse Practitioner, she said she was the NP. I asked if she read and interpreted my results. She in a snappy tone told me that ********** already read the results to me on 2÷6÷14, what was my question. I wasn’t going to get into an argument so I said never mind, sorry to inconvenience you. I will come in, pick up my records and go somewhere else. She in a very h

If I didn’t call and pester them, I wouldn’t have received my blood results. Clearly they would rather hand me the results to fend for myself than do any actual work.
I really liked the Dr., the people that drew my blood. The rest of the practice is a complete JOKE.

Stay away from this place! The doctor came in the room with a major attitude and was very patronizing from the getgo. I came in because I pulled something in my back and the pain was so severe, I could barely lift my 6 month old baby. I told him that I had an appt with an orthopedist next Friday but I didn’t know if I could wait that long because the pain was so intense. Without even examining me, he said he wanted to give me some sort of injection in my back. Um, no thanks, doc. If Im going to allow someone to inject me with something, its going to be a doctor that I know whose office isn’t a hole in the wall in the slums of Camarillo. He got annoyed with me and told me to take some Motrin and still never actually examined me.

I woke up Saturday morning and my ear was killing me. I found this place on Unilocal and thought I would check it out. After I filled out the paperwork they saw me right away. The front desk staff seemed very standoffish and unwelcoming. I don’t know if it was because it was a Saturday and they wanted to be at the beach or what but it made me feel very uncomfortable. The doctor was very nice and did help help me with my ear.

Patients beware!!! Unprofessional office — I wasn’t even treated by the dr. I kept telling them what my issue was and they treated me for something totally different. I won’t be coming back to this office! Beware!

Well, this place certainly has mixed reviews for a reason! I went here today because I’m visiting from out of town and don’t have a primary care physician in Camarillo. My throat’s been killing me and I suspect it’s strep throat again (which I’ve had a lot of times, I prefer to see my ENT back home but alas I am not there now).
I chose this urgent care because my insurance (Anthem Blue Cross) is accepted here, and because there are some positive reviews on Unilocal.I called in advance to see if they schedule appointments, but it’s walk-​ins only. This place was easy to find since it’s across from the Post Office and has good signage from the street. The woman at the front desk (one of two Maria’s apparently) was surly and let out a big sigh before answering any incoming phone call. She was not very pleasant, but the pregnant gal was surprisingly more friendly to me before she left.
There were only 2 people who had arrived before me, according to surly Maria. But I still waited 40 minutes in the waiting area before they called me back to the next waiting area, ie. the exam room. The Nurse Practitioner was actually pretty cool, and kinda cute too. His name was Ray. After he took all the stats and wrote notes down, I waited another 10+ minutes for the actual doctor to come into the exam room.
That is the experience that really made me give this place a low review. That stinking doctor! He was rushed and clearly did not give a hoot about me. He ran in, said my rapid strep test was negative, then quickly used tools to «look’ at my throat and ears. I put ‘look’ in parenthesis because he did not get a good look– he didn’t even lean forward to get closer to my face after jamming instruments at me. As I said earlier, I have a good ENT back home and thanks to 28 years of life experience, I know that doctors need to lean in to actually look at your throat and ears. He did neither– he just went through the actions. I had to ask for a throat culture (he did not suggest). He was more than willing to offer me a prescription for antibiotics though.
Uhg. Just– uhg. I spent 1 hour at that office with only two people waiting before me, and that’s the treatment I get from the doctor? Are you kidding me?! I’m still angry about it.
I would not come here again.

I went to this place due to an «ear ache». I was seen by two nurses but never by the doctor. They never told me I was not going to be seen by a doctor. The nurse didn’t know what to do or say. She said I obviously did not have an ear enfection as it didn’t look like it but she prescribed antibiotics just in case.
Even though I told her all the symtoms I had, she did not realized I had Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ). I checked my symptoms online, and there I found what I had.
I am never going back to this place. They really don’t know what they are doing. although nobody was there, I had to wait for an hour to be seen. Never again!

The first couple times I went here, I received prompt courteous attention for a kidney infection.
On another visit, i had 2 huge lumps on my neck. The nurse practitioner diagnosed them without even looking at the lumps close-​up and said they were «bug bites.» A week later, the lumps were even larger, extremely painful, and more irritated. I ended up going to the emergency room at the local hospital. Turns out I had infected lymph nodes. Strike 1.
On my last, and I do mean final, visit I will ever make to this urgent care, I went to renew my prescription for physical therapy sessions for a strained back muscle. I ended up getting pressured into x-​rays («just in case there may be something broken», but surprise surprise, nothing broken) and a toradol injection in the butt that did not alleviate any muscle pain, but just left me walking out with a sore butt. After all that, I did end up getting my prescription for physical therapy sessions, but charged for the unnecessary x-​rays and butt shot. Strike 2.
Not sure why the service went downhill after my initial visits, but they have lost me as a customer. I’m not gonna risk a strike 3.
There are plenty of other urgent care options in Camarillo. I’ll be going to the U.S. Healthworks on Verdugo Way from now on. They are cheaper and have their act together.

I am new to the area and didn’t have a general practitioner yet. I looked up Channel Islands Urgent Care on my insurance website after a cold just wasn’t improving. I was seen promptly, treated with courtesy, prescribed medication and was back home resting within half and hour. The setting is professional and the nurse practitioner I saw, Antonia, had an excellent bedside manner. Obviously I hate being sick but if I have to be ill I prefer to be treated in a setting like this.
