The burgers are by far worth 5 stars on its own unfortunately the fries were not great at all. I will be going back for sure but will pass on the fries! Definitely try this local place out!

RUDE!!! A group of like 8 of us came in and ordered some food. We had a little autistic girl with us who brought a lunchable with her because she doesn’t like anything else. As we all sat down to eat our food, one of the workers came out and told the little girl that was with us that she is not allowed to eat her lunchable in there and came up with this excuse that it’s «cross contamination»(which we all know is a lie and they just wanted her to purchase some food also). They didn’t tell her nicely, they were really rude about it. She only had a little more of her lunchable to eat so we went back up there and asked if she could just finish it really quick while we ate our food that we purchased there. They told us she could eat it if she went to the back of the restaurant and ate it in the corner really quick. at this point the little girl was embarrassed and sad that she had to move away from her friends to eat her lunchable but she went back there anyways. Then after she had moved all her things back there, the lady came back out and said actually the manager said u just need to leave. We had all just sat down with our food and started eating and they expected us to leave because she had a lunchable. I would’ve maybe understood if it was an adult eating it but it was a little girl for crying out loud and was she just supposed to sit there and watch us all eat? The way they went about it was so rude that we will never go there again!

This place is a childhood staple. I have been going here for as long as I can remember, excellent burgers and fries for a very reasonable price. Also the chocolate milkshakes are out of this world.

I judge all burger joints by the king of all burger joints, The Viking Drive-Inn in Boise. The Gem is one of the better burger places I’ve been to. It’s not at «Viking level» but dang good. This little mom and pop place has a great greasy spoon atmosphere and super friendly service. The Gem burger, which has a slice of ham and cheese on it is a great old school burger. It’s no Eric 2 from the Viking but it’s damn good. Excellent stuff… with places like this I can’t imagine why any proud American would bother going to a chain burger place.

I love mom n pop places… I’ll support these kinds of places over franchises ANY day. In n Out? Psh, you don’t have anything on Gem! Burgers? Outstanding. Fries? Awesome. Shakes? To die for. You see… when I want a burger… I dont think about Wendy’s, McDonnalds, Burger King, Carls Jr or Jack in the Box… I think of Gem In and Out!

Hmmmm… decent, average hamburgers. I needed to pick up some lunch for the family and wanted to try a local place. Figured they have been around for over 50 years, with a line of cars on either side of the building(for take out) and would be great. Atmosphere was quiet and looks like the place hasn’t been updated since the 1970’s, which I think adds to the charm. Service was pretty quick. About 5 minutes to get my order. Made sure I got the fry sauce the lady behind the counter said I must have. Got the burgers home and they were ok. Not spectacular. Just ok. Thin patty with a little shredded lettuce and their house sauce. Fries were not fresh(frozen… probably Simplot) and unsalted. Now that I know what to expect, I will still go back for a cheap fix.

Nan: Four stars! I really liked the fries and the onion rings, they were really good, just like the girl at the register said. But I loooooved the burger, I wanted another one! I’d go back there in a heartbeat! Nic: I’ll race ya!
