Sacred Church

As of this writing, am an approximately 5-​years in the Christian Faith.
I was shopping around for a good church in the area and was referred to Sacred by a fellow Christian friend. That was about a year ago. Since then, I’ve attended about three Sunday services (I can’t attend most of the time due to work), and here are my impressions/​observations thus far:
Service takes place in a gymnasium-​type room at the Burlingame highschool. Normal chairs are set up in maybe a dozen rows or less, facing the praise and worship band area. The spacing of the room, plus the wonderful welcoming attitudes of the people make for an intimate and immediate atmosphere. Age demographics tend to be in the 20’s to probably 40’s, with the praise team being on the lower end. There are a few families who attend with children, as well, and the youthful demographics, combined with the friendliness creates a dynamic, uplifting energy throughout the one hour long service. This is by no means a «mega» church decked out with ushers, blasting audio speakers, etc and that is a GOOD THING. The vibe at Sacred Church is one of togetherness in a closer knit community. So if you’re looking for a fist-​pumping rock concert with valet parking, this ain”t it. :) At the same time there are no «stiff», conservative airs being puffed around. Also a good thing!
I’ve taken my two sons here to the children’s group and the leaders have been friendly, communicative, and knowledgeable. I was SO HAPPY this was not one of those places where all they do with your kids is leave them with a bunch of toys and crayons. They actually have bible-​related lessons that are taught!
There are some Christian churches whose members tend to «dress up». Most people, including myself, at Sacred get by with casual wear, jeans and buttoned shirts or even tees for the men, and also casual for the women.
Not that it matters, but at the rear of the congregation setup there are some light refreshments and snacks available.
Communion is not every week, and the service begins with a few praise songs followed by the message by Pastor Josh. Pastor Josh has been wonderful, greeting people at the door and also escorting folks to and from their cars in the parking lot just outside. What a guy. Being a pastor of any size church is no easy thing, so to put in that much effort on even your «not so hot» feeling days says a lot about the shepherd of the church.
It should be pointed out that It should not matter if his messages have been practical, emotional, and with bits of humor injected (which they are). What matters most is if the message is biblically accurate. And thus far, they have been.
If you are the type to attend church to «get something out of it», then you will because of the message, the friendliness of people, the children’s class, and the passion stirring praise team.
However, if you are the type to see service as your opportunity to really praise God, encourage others, and assemble with your brothers and sisters in Christ with all your heart, mind and soul, then you will REALLY have a good time. The choice is ultimately yours. Every person is different.

6 months into our move to the Peninsula, I started searching for a church to go to. A bit of background… church has always been a big part of my life, but I can’t say that I felt the burning desire to go to church every Sunday. When I was younger, going to church was fun because I got to see and hang out with my friends. We would sit and talk for an hour and a half through the sermon and then get boba after church. As I got older, I started becoming unsure of the leadership in the church and slowly became less interested and eventually, I stopped going completely.
So in my search for a new church family, I was very picky. This time around, I was looking for a leader that is passionate. I’d like for his message to speak from the heart and not just reading the bible word for word. I’d love it more if the message is relatable to what I go through in my daily struggles in life. I was looking for a friendly atmosphere, a place where you don’t feel pressured — where they don’t try too hard. A place with real and genuine intention and that they really want you there.
My trusted Unilocal led me to The Sacred Church. It’s located inside the gym of Burlingame High School but don’t let the appearance fool you. You can feel His presence and love and the energy of Pastor Josh will move you. His messages speak to me every time. This guy ROCKS! (if you just saw him walking down the street, you’d think he’s just a college kid haha) He took us to Philz Coffee (’cause that’s what he does to newcomers) to get to know us and we learned he’s a goof ball, which makes us love him more and we don’t feel he’s intimidating at all as a pastor. His wife is beautiful and she has an amazing voice and their daughter is adorable. We have been coming here for 8 months now and we look forward to coming to Sacred every Sunday.
One other thing we love about Sacred is they are hip! Ok, they serve Philz coffee and their coffee cups are stamped with their logo on it. How cool is that? If you miss a Sunday, you can listen to his recordings on the website. Also, tithings can be done through your phone! Yea, no need to feel bad if you don’t have cash. Very current with the technology! So glad I found this church. Seriously, I invite you to check us out!

We gave this church a try after reading the reviews and were so blessed to get to know Pastor Josh and his family. They welcomed us in right from the start and provided amazing support and friendship. If you’re tired of searching for a church to call home, visit here!

I don’t give out five stars. Ever. For this place I make the exception.
My wife and I have attended many churches in our lives, the last one for more than 30 years an we left it only after much soul-​searching and heartache. We were very broken at the time and were not sure we would ever get involved in another church again. But we heard of this little startup church meeting at Burlingame High School and thought we would check it out.
We were stunned at the reception. the first noticeable thing was that we were the oldest people in the place. I was even older than the elders. The energy was palpable. And these young people opened their arms and loved us immediately, not in a forced semi-​cultish way but genuinely. I tallest brought tears to my eyes after being in a church where newcomers were subjected to polite scrutiny.
The pastor’s wife led worship. It was genuine, clear and original. I had not been able to worship freely for years and it was like the lightbulbs came on again. Then the young pastor started to preach, boldly, about grace an acceptance and on a level that might have gotten him run out of most of the churches I know. Such courage I had not heard in a while.
I have not felt comfortable bringing people who are not familiar with Jesus to church for many years, but I invite at least one person a month and several have stayed. It’s not what you hear Christianity to be. It’s what you hope it could be.
And the coffee is quite good, too.

Love love love this church. It is a small but welcoming church. Worship is awesome. I was looking for a church that was more up to date and sacred is on it. Pastor Josh messages always hit me, he is definitely anointed. There are a lot of young members. Not many kids though. Not yet at least ;) I definitely recommend checking us out!

We moved to the Bay area about six months ago and were searching for a new church to call home. We had gone to many churches, but couldn’t find one that felt like the right fit for our spiritual and family needs. We stumbled upon the Sacred Church through Unilocal and decided to give it a try. When we walked in we were instantly greeted by the Pastor. It was not only a welcoming place, but a loving place. We enjoyed a great service with passionate worship and a message that spoke right to us. In addition, the children’s service was perfect for our 3 year old daughter.
We have now been attending Sacred church for a few months and have not only fallen in love with the church, but also the people. Not only do we leave church filled with an amazing message and great worship, but are able to connect during the week with many activities that take place during the week!

I was first invited to The Sacred Church on their 1 year anniversary. I was welcomed with warm smiles and open, genuine hearts. The worship was lead by a Beautiful voice that touched my heart. Everyone took time to introduce themselves to me and welcome me. The word that was given by pastor Josh educated me and was what I needed.
I needed a place where I would grow and learn. This was the place for me. I have been coming here over a year now, the encouragement, love, support and Growth i’ve personally had since being here is incredible!
I am now part of the team that are passionate about Jesus and want to be more Christ-​like daily.
Come to the Sacred Church, I will personally welcome you with a warm smile and open genuine heart, that I was greeted with on my first Visit :)

I’ve never personally been to the Sacred Church. But the Sacred Church came to me. Let me explain. I was enjoying my day off at the starbucks in downtown burlingame and walks in the pastor of the church. I had known him from previous gatherings but not that well. Anyways, Pastor Josh stopped and sat down with me for a good 20 – 30 minutes and genuinely asked how i was doing and got to know me more. This communicated to me that this church truly cares and loves people! Now that is SACRED. GO TO CHURCH! (i don’t live in the area otherwise i would be there every sunday!!!)

Pastor Josh and the Sacred team do such a great job! I would recommend their church to anybody!

I just started attending The Sacred Church about a month ago, and was really impressed by how welcoming everyone was. The worship team is great, and the pastor always preaches good messages, with sound doctrine. I always feel refreshed and encouraged after attending a Sunday service at The Sacred Church, and that’s because I always experience a genuine encounter with God. Looking for truth, for purpose, to meet with God (or to find out what God is all about)? Come to The Sacred Church, it’s awesome! (The coffee and donuts are always a bonus too!)

I first visited Sacred in May 2012 and found the people there to be super friendly and the Pastor shared a great message. It’s pretty awesome.

I first came to this church with an open heart and mind, and Ive been fulfilled. It’s a modernized Christian church with the most welcoming community. Pastor Josh delivers a great message every Sunday; I like his passion. One of my favorite things is the music; you have to experience it to know what I’m talking about. Daycare, good music, welcoming community, coffee & donuts, fun felllowship are some of the things that make this a great place to worship. If you’re a lost soul, you can come and be comfy here. We are currently going through the entire bible, and it’s already great. My family enjoys this church & community; it’s truly becoming the church God inteneded to be.
