Update: After the first project was done, we had a second project with UF for our main level area. This time existing engr hardwood got replaced with solid hardwood and porcelain tiles. Similar to the first job, they did an excellent work and provided dedicated customer service during the entire process. In addition to the folks mentioned in the first job, Peyman got involved in cases where critical decision making was needed. Very trustworthy and skillful folks!

I recently used Unique Floors to update my flooring from carpeting to hardwoods. It was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. Steve in the store was extremely professional and help me select a color that would go well with my cherry cabinets. Jason did a fabulous job measuring my space and providing an estimate. The price was extremely fair and less than competitors. In fact I was able to do the main level, stairs and upper level hallway for less than what others had quoted me for just the main level. I was given 15 month financing with no interest which made the decision a no-​brainer. The installers were extremely professional and did a wonderful job in 2 ½ days. Overall I am extremely pleased and the new hardwoods completely changed the look of my house. I strongly recommend Unique Floors for any flooring project.

We replaced the carpets on the second level of our house with hardwoods via Unique Floors. Our experience was very positive and we are quite happy with the job they performed. I’ve been in contact with Jason and Steven to plan for the job. They are both responsive and dedicated professionals. The job took 1.5 days in total. Luis and Eduardo did great job on the floors. They had very polite manners with great flooring skills. We recommend UF to anyone needing hardwood flooring needs.

I am a repeat customer as I needed to finish putting down hardwood floor. They are responsive and provides good customer support. Jason and Steve are very helpful. They provide good work and charge you a reasonable price. The only reason I am docking two star from them is that they could be more careful when they have laid the wood. In my most recent job, there were several dents and nicks that I found. In this and the previous job, they also nailed quarter round over painters tape so I could not remove some of the tape stuck under it.
Overall, I am OK with the quality of the work, but it can be disappointing to see some damage on expensive brand new wood flooring. Far too much damage that could have just been prevented had they been more careful. 3.25÷5

Luis and the team came out rip out the vinyl and place hardwood floors in the kitchen and they are just amazing. The miter cuts were all spot on and solid as well. We had 3 pieces that were not nailed down, but Steven is handling that like a pro. I am very happy with the service so much that I am having them come out again for the carpets. One note, when having the hardwood installed, they do cutting inside the house, so make sure everything is covered and better yet, it might make more since to section off the areas if possible to keep the wood dust to a minimum because it gets everywhere. Awesome job!

I’ve worked with them two times and I came back the second time because the first was a very good experience. There were no problems with my installs and they were professional and on-​time throughout. The workers were professional and great. The sales and office personnel were really on point too. I enjoyed their work and would call them again.

Unique Floors did a great job with wood flooring in my 3 bedrooms. Their measurement person is very thorough, the customer service is professional, they show up on time, follow through as promised, and most importantly the crew did a very professional job. I have recommended them to a few friends for flooring work. The one area for improvement is their payment system. The crew requires that you write down your credit card details on a piece of paper, which is inherently very risky. Since the work was done on a Saturday and half the payment was due, the owner was very skittish about not getting the remaining payment asap, so I had to push them hard to have him call me on the phone for the credit card info. Other than that one inconvenience, the work is of very high quality.

I have nothing but good things to say about this outfit — excellent customer service, product selection and technical installation. Jason came out and took measurements of our kitchen and hallway and answered a few of our questions the day after my initial email inquiry. The quoted price was more than fair — some 35% lower than an absurd quote I got from Home Depot’s flooring team (see my other review) and totally transparent. We stopped by the Unique showroom to finalize our flooring selections and schedule installation. The install crew, led by Luis, finished the job on schedule despite having his partner call out sick on day one. The cost did not fluctuate a dollar up or down. The floor looks great and the installation has been bulletproof so far.
The main lesson learned here was to never do business with big box operations with tons of overhead and bozo customer service reps/​salespeople eating up payroll, and opt instead for a lean and technically proficient local outfit like Unique Floor. Highly recommended.

I would not recommend this company to anyone! We had pre-​existing wood in half our family room and wanted to remove the carpet from the other half and replace with wood. We had a consultation and were recommended a wood that we were told would be a very close match. We understand that all wood colors vary. We were also told that we always had the possibility to later refinish the entire floor and re-​stain if we later wanted a perfect match. They came and ripped up all the carpet and when the workers laid the new wood down they called me to see and asked if this is right because it was two shades darker. It looked nothing like what we were shown. (This was not a slight variation!) So I call the owner Sam and told him that it was not right and we need to replace it and he got very short and angry with me saying that I will have to pay 25% of my entire price to restock that wood, over $ 1000! (25% of the entire cost, not just the cost of the wood. So he’s actually making money off a mistake.) And then continued to say that I WILL pay the fee because it’s in the contract I signed or he will sue me and take me to court. (Within 5 minutes of our phone call, threaten to sue me.) He did not try to work with me, he offered no suggestions and then said «You think about it and then call me back.» And hung up on me. When we finally got a hold of him again he still had no other options: install the darker wood, or return it and pay the restocking fee of $ 1000. We asked about re-​finishing the entire floor after install and he said that would cost us another $ 2,500 and it wouldn’t match anyway. (Not what we were told at the consultation.) Or his final option was to take out all of the hardwood (only 5 years old, new home) and replace the entire space for an additional $ 4500.
In the end we canceled the entire order and he got his $ 1000 restocking fee for doing nothing. We will finish this job with a more reputable company that cares about their customers and doing quality work.
I know someone will read this that was going to give him their business and will change their mind, hopefully a few people. Was the $ 1000 worth losing business over Sam?

Unique flooring came out for a job today and the hardwood they brought was much darker than expected. When we spoke with the owner, Sam, he told us, «If we wanted to select a different color that we would be assessed a ‘Re-​Stocking’ fee, which is 25% of the cost of the entire job. In our case $ 1062.00. Not to mention how rude he was to my wife, who was almost in tears after getting off the phone with him. There was no flexibility, no responsibility for the mismatch and all of our options involved spending more money then we had budgeted.
I understand that our situation is tricky because it involves matching new materials to an existing floor but you can see from the picture we would have never selected something that was so much, obviously, darker. In fact, the choice was based entirely on the recommendation by their flooring professionals.
We ended up cancelling the job and we were charged $ 1062 dollars! Now my main living area is ripped up carpet and exposed plywood. What a huge disappointment. We’ve even used Unique flooring in the past for other jobs and have been happy with the work and price. We are shocked and disappointed that they would decide to go this route with an unsatisfied returning customer and to charge us such a huge fee.
To anyone is thinking about using this company, proceed with caution.
To Address the owner’s comments:
First of all, my wife and I truly felt like we were backed into a corner in this situation.
We did not want to cancel but after being pressed by the owner and considering the options he provided us, we felt we had no other recourse.
The owner did offer us options, all of which involved paying lots of additional money and leaned heavily toward the financial benefit of his company.
Option 1 — Refinish everything. A new estimate was given to remove all of the existing floor and add new hardwood in the entire main floor. This option would cost us an additional $ 4,600.00 (after a discount) plus the $ 4,248 = $ 8,848
Option 2 — Install the new mismatched wood and re-​evaluate in 6 months. Unique Flooring offered a 10% discount to refinish and stain the wood. Original cost $ 4248 plus the approximate Cost $ 2500-​$ 3000 (minus 10%) six month to one year down the line.
Option 3 — Pay the restocking fee and try another wood. Original Cost $ 4,248 + $ 1062 (restocking fee) = $ 5,310. Although this left the potential for the same mismatch issue to occur again.
Option 4 — (The cheapest option) Cancel the job and figure out what to do on our own. $ 1062.00
There were no options that did not include additional money out of our pocket. We feel like Sam and Unique Flooring exploited this situation to their own financial benefit. We feel like Sam and Unique Flooring used the «Re-​Stocking» clause in their contract to extort money from us.
This review is not commenting on poor workmanship or rude workers. In fact, we are returning customers and obviously, from the other reviews, they do nice work. We are simply describing our experience with Unique Flooring and how the owner deiced to deal with our particular situation.

When you purchase a home and you want to remodel it’s like a roll of the dice with contractors and all you can do is try to make the best decision possible. It’s important to use a site like Unilocal!Where you get other independent reviews to try your best to verify that a company actually knows what their doing. I found EXACTLY this in Unique Floors!!! Initially, I was considering Lumber Liquidators but after checking the BBB and scam websites and the hundreds (if not thousands) of horrible ratings on Google and other sites, let’s just say I was very, very careful to pick the right company. A home that is over 3000 sqft is an expensive endeavor to cover with hardwood floors for the main floor, top floor, closets and the most challenging… steps!
From start to finish it was an amazing experience. Jason and his co-​worker (can’t remember his name right now) showed up and measured the entire house (and took their time verifying the measurements and cross checking each other’s numbers. Outstanding. (If you contact someone and they pull out a tape measure and their not using an electronic measure like Unique Floors kick them out your house, their is no way in hell they will get the measurements right and you will overbuy wood). I picked out the wood but I wanted to see something different so I opted to go to the showroom (let me tell you something people… if you’re spending a large amount of money on a floor get your lazy self to be showroom, don’t sit on the phone asking them which color is what and can they bring it out) you need to be involved in the purchase process. It makes the experience phenomenal!!! I then opted not to use a separate contractor for the tile for the bathrooms (4) and kitchen. I picked the tile while holding the hardwood at the showroom and what a perfect match!!!
Falincia (front desk woman) followed up repeatedly which was perfect for me since I’m very, very busy all day and they kept me up-​to-​date with everything.
Luis came out and started the job on a Saturday late afternoon and they were done with the entire house by Wednesday! Amazing! I could not find anything wrong!!! The bathrooms and kitchen floors are AMAZING. He got the stain on the steps perfectly matched to the floors (which is hard for dark stains I think since it took him some time to get it correct). They also got the shoe molding and around the baseboards all the same stain color. These guys were good!
The only negative that I could possibly see was their lack of Technology for signatures. They need to use electronic signatures (like an iPad or Android tablet with DocuSign or Adobe Document Cloud) to streamline the experience since they still use paper, fax and email. It’s just slow and ancient for signatures and I don’t like writing down my credit card number so I just drove to the office and swiped the card (Yes, I drove from MD to their office in Burke, VA just because of credit card security). Other than this it was a great experience!

I had my floors done back in 2011 and it’s still looks great.
They worked really fast and affordable. Would totally recommend this company.

Unique floors took on the renovation of my townhouse recently. The three man crew who cut and laid the tiles and wood laminate did top-​notch work. I was amazed how beautiful everything turned out. Luis’s crew no doubt takes pride in the work they do. They are true professionals and deserve a 5* rating. They worked long hours and efficiently moved the project along, finding solutions for any small problem they encountered along the way. Highly recommend Unique Floors and its installation team. This crew ranks among the best.

Will preface this with «I didn’t actually use this company». Why? Because first impressions go a long way when I decide who gets our business.
The good: received a very prompt call after I emailed a contact request. The woman on the phone had an open time slot for them to come out for an estimate, very soon.
The bad: the above mentioned woman was either having a horrible day or is just a representation of customer service there. She mumbled, sounded detached in la la land bored, could barely understand her, as she quoted a day someone would be out, I told her the day and time worked, she then ended the call with «…ummm…ok…uhhhh…bye?» Click. As I stared at my disconnected call, I sighed and called back, asking her if she needed my address (that helps when someone is coming by for an estimate). Reply was along the lines of «ummm, yeah, what is it?»
I saw a red flag waving and just told her to cancel the appointment. A brief awkwardness ensued, then I moved on.
I was disappointed, as the company had overall solid reviews and I was ready to give them business. But since we are hiring every type of contractor imaginable, as we prep our house to sell and want it to be as smooth as possible, I had zero trust in a company that would put her as the voice of their business. She couldn’t even get the basics down.
Meh.

We have been waiting for over 10 years to get nice hardwood floors. Our carpets have been through 3 large dogs, one cat and three growing kids. They were a disaster. Due to the totally awesome reviews here on Unilocal we decided to go with this company. Despite the fact that we are in Rockville MD and they are further away in Virginia. We got an estimate, planned a week off from work, and waited for the day to arrive. The team announced they could start working on Saturday AND Sunday! And they worked more than 8 hours each day. They were courteous, punctual and obviously knew what they were doing. They began work the moment they arrived. I have never heard so much work going on around me. It was a big job. We got three bedrooms done with new floors, plus a hallway, and a large living room. Another hallway got a new, tiled floor and the stairs a new carpet. All the flooring was finished by Monday (three days). The floors were cleaned, there was almost no dust anywhere from the work, and the final result was just gorgeous We will definitely call them again for future projects.

Professional, responsive and great price. Luis is of course the gem of Unique Floor.
I had laminate put in downstairs and it went incredibly smoothly.
Best of all — we love our new floor.

Sam & Maria were so great to work with! I had a few estimates and found them to be the best prices, best quality, and by far the best customer service hands down. Sam came the day after I called for an estimate, and by the time I decided what I wanted, they ordered the carpet and it was beautifully installed by the end of the week. I couldn’t be happier and will recommend them to all my friends! :)

These guys are great, totally worthy of the high reviews. Fair price, good service. We had hardwood installed in one part of our home to match hardwood elsewhere.
My one minor gripe is we had tiles removed so hardwood could be installed in their place. Nobody told me how dusty it would be, and so we didn’t cover anything until midway through and it took us weeks to get the house clean. I probably could have guessed that, but it didn’t occur to me. Still — it’s a very minor gripe. The quality of the install and the price were great and competitive respectively. I have experience with other companies (e.g., dominion floors) and I recommend you go straight to Unique Floor.

I found these guys right here of Unilocal.I can’t say enough good things about them. They gave me the lowest quote by $ 500 and quoted me 3K for 550 sq. ft. of 12.3mm Eastern Timberland Laminate. This was for a condo I own.
I had laminate put in by China Carpet last time… quality was shoddy and it lasted 5 years before it started to warp and peel, plus it was 7 mm not 12. I guess you get what you pay for.
These guys (Louis and his crew) were professional, on time, clean, pleasant, and expert craftsmen. They were as meticulous in the obvious spots as they were in the places hidden in the back of the closet. Take a look at the photo I have attached.
These guys had to climb three flights of stairs and not one complaint. I can’t stress enough how professional these guys were a lot of please and thank you. I know that seems like a small thing but to me it made the experience that much better. There was not a speck of dust or any construction waste whatsoever once they left.
I was duly impressed. Maria (sales person) was really pleasant over the phone and even went out of her way to try and find the quickest date to get the material and install. I had Mike (I think it was Mike, not sure) come out to give me an estimate on July 2^nd, he was really pleasant, no hard sale and the work was totally completed today by 4pm July 8^th. And to top it off, I received a $ 75.00 Unilocal discount that I did not expect.
Whomever owns this company, do whatever you can to keep these guys working for you, they are awesome!
