Computer Savers

Computer Savers, also known as «Northern Virginia Computer Repair» has had my computer since October 16, 2015. The owner, David Cook, has been completely unresponsive to calls, voicemails, texts, and emails and refuses to let me have my computer back. I visited in person multiple times but no one was there. I have filed a BBB and consumer affairs complaint, to no avail.
I lost more than $ 1,500 by using this place. Stay far far FAR away.

I cannot recommend this business enough. I brought in a Samsung cell phone with irreplaceable pictures and videos on it during the summer of 2015. I had dropped the phone into water, and it did NOT look good for the recovery of my data. However, Dave and his team were calm and comforting and said they’d do whatever they could to help me (needless to say, I was devastated by the potential loss). They took their time and did the recovery 100% correct, and I ended up getting EVERYTHING back, not to mention a reasonably priced replacement. I am a grateful and repeat customer for life.

Always my go to computer person. He’s been in our home, we’ve bought hardware and he’s remotely fixed things for us. We couldn’t do without him!

This place is outstanding. I found NVCR online and gave them a call because my laptop wouldn’t power up. Dave returned my call in two hours or so and looked at my computer later that day. He gave me some estimates about pricing (based on what his suspicions about the problem were) and took it in for diagnosis. The next day he had a diagnosis (motherboard failure) and he quoted me on some options, all of which I found to be fair and reasonable (cheaper than I had expected, actually). He always responded promptly to my calls and was exceptionally friendly throughout the process. When my PC broke I was afraid of being completely taken advantage of but NVCR couldn’t have been more honest, helpful, and polite. Awesome.

brought in my computer for repair and paid upfront for the repair fees. A week after I got a call that it’s ready. Long story short after 4 days same computer crashed. Emailed, left VM re issue but never got a reply. rip off.

First things first-​the company no longer goes by «Computer Savers». It’s now Northern VA Computer Repair
. (But because of advertising red tape with Unilocal,you have to search them under Computer Savers). I have been working with Dave for about a month & a half on various computer issues. Some were tougher than others but during the entire time through many phone calls and visits, they have been nothing short of courteous, reasonably priced, fair and honest. We since purchased a new (used) laptop from them after one of our laptops was beaten up by my cat. The keyboard and mousepad were FUBAR. So Dave ordered replacements, but after another call regarding something else, we decided that for the cost, we should just buy a new one. He had a refreshed Dell for sale which we bought at a very great price, fully loaded, data transfered and ready to roll. HIGHLY recommend these guys. Thanks Dave!!! P. S. They now offer 3-​D printing! Very COOL!

Fan on my wife’s laptop went out and these guys were able to sort it out straight away, ordered in a replacement part, and gave me a more than reasonable estimate and delivery time. Sharp lads, great work ethic, and they have definitely earned my business.

Where do I begin. to make it short and sweet, my laptop crashed several months back because of a hard drive failure so I haven’t been able to use it. I have been searching for credible computer repair shops around the area for the longest time and that’s when I have found this site on Unilocal and decided to give it a try based off its great reviews from customers. End up speaking to Dave and after a brief explanation over the phone, he knew it right away that it is a hard drive failure right off the bat. So I took it to the shop and have him look at it. Though, it might have taken longer than expected to fix my laptop because first of all, it is an ACER and I WOULDN’T RECOMMEND the brand to anybody (trust me) due to its poor reputation for support — Dave was able to restore my laptop in TIP-​TOP condition! Not to mention that he gave me a very reasonable price for the labor and parts! This guy is a REAL DEAL folks :) highly recommended!.. very professional and his tech knowledge vastly exceeds my expectation. THANK YOU DAVE!

I bought a gaming power PC recently from a California vendor. Unfortunately the liquid cooling pump broke and the manufacturer was slow in responding. I needed to fix the computer quickly for some scientific work I am doing (gaming PCs are not just for gamers). So I decided to use Unilocal and look for a computer repair service. Based on the previous reviewers, I decided to give Computer Savers a chance. I was very happy with the service Dave provided. The repair cause was reasonable and the time for repair was very quick. Dave ordered the right part and as soon as it came, he got to work and installed the new liquid cooling system. I also found out that Dave builds computers himself and this aspect of the business was not emphasized in the Unilocal review. He also fixes other things like phones as well. Anyhow, the previous reviewers were all correct and Computer Savers deserve all of their five stars for their fair price, friendly customer service and super speedy service.

i guess I am amazed that Unilocal did not include my review. Dave was a disaster for data transfer (just imagine, I lost all contacts, files, and contacts) but even six months after that I got an email on my old computer that Outlook had not been registered. What a disaster. But even more disappointing was Unilocal discounting my review, because why? I am from Southern Maryland, and used a Northern Virginia company, and Unilocal is not big in southern Maryland so I don’t use it that often? Really? I think Unilocal needs to rethink its model

As good as it gets! Dave and crew did a fantastic job taking care of my family’s computer repair needs. I brought in my son’s laptop for repair – a condition caused when my son decided he was going to try to fix it himself, and found out that it wasn’t going to be an easy fix. Parts needed to be ordered and, unfortunately, that meant a long wait time. In the interim, Dave lent us a refurbished laptop, free of charge, for my son to use instead. While it took some time for the parts to arrive, when they did, we discovered the damage was so severe the laptop was no longer salvageable. Dave was prepared to give me a full refund! Instead, however, we worked out a deal where Dave would refurbish a desktop machine we weren’t using for the cost of the repairs to the laptop. In the end, we received a refurbished desktop machine with a new motherboard, graphics card, hard drive, and processor with wireless capability. It was unfortunate we could not salvage the laptop, but Dave went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and satisfied. Bottom line, go here first for your computer repair needs!

Dave is awesome. Twice now, I’ve had external hard drive issues that he helped me with. He also helped me buy a desktop for my office and helped a friend buy a laptop. It’s like finding a mechanic you like and trust with your computer. Bonus. Supporting local small business. Win-​win.

My computer was acting up. David replaced my hard drive. He was courteous, professional and got me back my computer in about a day. I would definitely recommend him and will go back for my other computer needs.

I destroyed the motherboard of my boyfriend’s computer. I was in a frenzy trying to find a place that could repair and build custom gaming computers, because that’s what he had. I had called over 15 places in both the Maryland/​DC/​North VA area, and no one had the skills or qualifications to take care of this project.
I called Computer Savers and spoke to Dave, told him my request for someone to fix a gaming computer, and he said I had «struck gold.» That day, within the hour, I brought the broken computer and all the new parts to him. He put a priority rush on everything. Lightening fast, he had put all the new parts into the new case and transferred over old working parts (like the DVD-​ROM) to the new computer. When I picked it up today, he said he had never put a computer like that together so fast.
Dave truly understood how urgent the situation was and rose above and beyond the call of duty. If I ever have a computer problem again or know of someone who does, I’ll only recommend Dave at Computer Savers from now on. If you want to be able to trust someone with your computer who knows what they’re talking about, don’t hesitate to call them. They’re prompt with answering your call or returning it, and you cannot find better prices for this high quality work anywhere. Thanks, Dave, you are a computer wizard and life saver!

I know little about computers, so when I came home and found out my cats and knocked my laptop to the floor and broken the «plug in thingie» on the side, I did what any reasonable person would do. I got on Facebook and asked for help from my many «computer nerd» friends. Each of them told me the same thing. I was screwed.
I took it to the «Best» known place for electronics where I bought it to find out it was no longer under warranty (By a MONTH) and the repair would cost me nearly $ 400. One friend told me it was only a $ 4 part but the labor/​soldering made it hell to get fixed and said I needed to find a small shop and have it looked at before I bought an all new machine.
After reading the reviews, I decided to give Computer Savers a call. I told Dave what I knew already about the part, it’s cost, how the repair had to be done, and how I just could NOT afford to replace the motherboard. He told me if the repair did not work I would get my money back. Say WHAT? Yep. If it did not work, I would get all of my money back, less only the $ 4 for the power port. I also was told if I could get it to him before 5 he should have it back within 24 hours. The next day, I was slammed at work and surprised to get a call. It was indeed ready to go and fixed. I am THRILLED with the excellent customer service, the speedy turn around, and the amazing rates. I don’t think I will take my computers anywhere else from now on! SO thrilled!
Just let it be known, he shares his shop space with a cell phone repair place, so it can be confusing when you come into the shopping center! :-) (He is over by the Vet’s office and Yoga Place on the right) Now to have them tackle the next project– rebuilding my dinosaur of a laptop for my son!!!

The hinge on the back of my laptop had broken since I had accidentally dropped it on the floor. I called the manufacturer and they quoted me a pretty ridiculous price to repair it, so I brought it to Computer Savers instead. Well, they not only quoted me a very reasonable price for the repair, but it was fixed in 2 days… AND they let me come by a few minutes after they closed to pick it up because they knew making it there earlier would be difficult for me.
Great customer service and fast repair. I highly recommend.

This review is slightly overdue, but I had such a great experience here I had to share it!
I bought new graphics card and hard drive and Dave installed them and got everything working. I was really quite excited since I’ve been wanting to upgrade my computer for a while! I got home and suddenly my computer begins to restart whenever I boot up any game. So I freak out and call Dave and he walks me through some simple issues. Sadly the issues persisted so Dave asked me to bring it to see what was wrong.
I drop it off and Dave finds out my power supply gave out trying to run the card. Dave said he could go buy a new power supply and install it. A day or so later he calls me, I come I’m and test it and 3 months in still works great. Dave even called to check on me a few says later. He did not charge me any extra to upgrade the power supply. He just offered it without asking!
In Conclusion — Dave did fantastic work but his customer service is what really makes me want to go back to him for all my computer needs. He also can build computers which is a bog plus. I cannot recommend this place enough and I wish I could give it 6 stars!

I have used Computer Savers twice now (once for a software issue and once for a hardware issue) and both times I was blown away by the quick turnaround time, reasonable price, and great service. When I emailed Dave with my issue he called really quickly to give me a price and arrange a drop-​off time, he got everything done super fast, and he threw in some upgrades to my computer. I have had terrible experiences in the past sending my computer to the manufacturer for repairs and using my university’s repair service so this was really nice to just get it fixed quickly the first time. He kept me in the loop the whole time with everything he was doing.

I was able to drop my computer off the day I called and picked it up the next day. The price was more than reasonable. Dave was great. Sometimes techie people make you feel stupid for screwing up or your lack of knowledge. Not Dave. He just fixed it. No judging.

So both of my laptops decided to crap out at the same time, one being a fairly brand-​new Dell — Not even 6 months old. I was in a panic because I had neglected to back up some of the newer pics on my old HP laptop and it would not even power up. I checked out Unilocal and decided to use Computer Savers based on the reviews. I knew my Dell was still under warranty, but I did not want to deal with their customer service again to find out why it performed sluggishly and kept locking up. I called Computer Savers and left a voicemail. As promised, David returned my call within an hour.
What I liked immediately about David — down to earth, tried to help me out with some tips even before I committed to using him for the repairs and a reasonable flat rate — I found him to be a genuinely nice guy building his own business. I took both my laptops to him, pretty much knowing the motherboard on the HP was shot. As I expected, it was cheaper to replace the HP then repair.
I will say I was a bit leery of dropping both my laptops off when I arrived. David was not yet home so his assistant took in my laptops, took a bit of information and told me David would be in touch. I was dropping my PCs with tons of personal data at someone’s home. I decided to bite the bullet and leave them.
We met David outside as we were leaving and I have to admit to feeling much more secure about the whole thing after meeting and chatting with him. Not only does he repair computers, he also sells both new and used. I ended up replacing the HP (cheaper than replacing the motherboard) with a laptop with almost the same features as my new Dell at much less than ¹⁄₃ of what I paid for the Dell.
He worked with Dell to get both my faulty hard drive and motherboard replaced — both under warranty. This took some time, but I was so glad David was dealing with Dell customer service rather than me. It came back to me good as new. All data from both my old hard drives was saved and transferred to both my new HP and the Dell.
We were so impressed with his work ethic, prices and willingness to help, we ended up getting new laptops for both my mom and mother in law (again extremely reasonable prices). David even took the time to get on the phone with mom-​in-​law who had never had a computer in her life and take her on a virtual tour and help her with email. He apparently has the patience of a saint!
If ever I need computer repair services again, I would give David a call. When I am ready to purchase a new PC, I will be buying from David. Highly recommend!
