Train Shack

This is my 4 year old son’s favorite shop in LA. Todd the owner will power up the O-​scale train layout for him by request, and loves playing with their wooden train layouts. Train shack has an impressive collection of beautiful HO, N scale and O scale trains as well as wooden trains for children. We will keep coming back

Train Shack is my go-​to favorite train store in the Los Angeles area. Always enjoy visiting with all the staff — they fix they sell and they’re find whatever you need in the way of train equipment.

This place is like a kid in candy store but with model trains. They carry a wide range of model size scales and have awesome displays. The staff was very helpful in guiding me the right way to emptying my wallet in the good way. I wanted to build a custom layout track for my O gauge Lionel train set and they were able to build a layout on the computer then gathered all the correct track sizes I needed. They were also able to provide me parts to light up my caboose since the one on my set did not come illuminated. $ 5.00 part vs. $ 95.00 for a new illuminate caboose. If you’re local and in the LA county this is the one and only stop you need to visit for your model train goods.

I can’t begin to tell you what this place has meant to my toddler. We live across the street and some weeks, we are here every day! They are so kind and friendly and the train tables they offer for the kids are awesome. We also love to watch the trains drive around the neat set-​up around the store. Todd, Brendan and everyone are so lovely. Highly recommend this store for all ages.

This place is terrible. The people are very disrespectful! I had my Lionel U33C fixed through them and they ended up having to send it to lionel. When lionel shipped it back to train shack, train shack shipped it to me in the ORIGINAL BOX! The box came back totally torn and beat up. These people have no business running a business. No pun intended LOL! I would rather through away my train and buy a new one instead of dealing with these A-​holes. I hope they go bankrupt.

Really great selection of all model train scales. Customer service is top notch. I purchased 2 locomotives, and O scale and HO scale and they tested them out for me on the in-​store track. There aren’t that many of these stores around anymore so it’s great to see this one still going strong.

My toddler LOVES trains. As soon as you walk in there are two sets of Thomas Train tables with ALOT of trains. Unlike Barnes & Nobles or other areas where you see train sets there were not alot of kids fighting for trains.
We walked around the store a bit and he got to see larger trains. Said hello to the nice man at counter.
He knows first-​hand how this interest can grow into a lifetime hobby. On the way out, my toddler grabbed the door frame — he didn’t want to leave :)

First time customer, I called them to see if they had a particular section of track which they did. I told them I’ll be coming in that afternoon. I found the place, parked in the rear, walked in, saw a rack with the tracks I needed, paid for them, and left. I was in and out in like 5 minutes. I didn’t really have time to look around. Next time I will spend more time browsing around. Friendly staff, I’ll be shopping there again.

I recently decided to build an HO scale little Tabletop train layout after finding an old train set I used to own online for my son. I came in to check out the store, and the train displays in store. I totally forgot how expensive this hobby can be but cool at the same time, so I’ll be buying a box car or two per month for the next couple of years before I get to a point where my layout would even be remotely near decent.
Parking lot in the back is big enough, considering there are spots for the near by businesses as well, the young man who helped me was quite helpful (don’t remember his name but appeared to be in his early 20s). As stated above, I’ll be coming in on and off for a while as I will be building my Son’s layout little by little.

They have a good inventory and nicely displayed, but man other than the lady working there the staff is rude. First visit I bought a cool ready to run set and had about a $ 600 day. Three visits later I was up to about a thousand $, but the feeling I got each visit was like my business didn’t matter so I stopped going. I have since purchased 3 more train sets and and my accessories elsewhere.
I went back a few days ago cause I wanted something quick. Walked in and got looked at but no acknowledgement. Walked around about 5 minutes and got no offers to help me and got answers like yup and nope to my questions. Rude, rude staff. I am so glad my other 3 ready to run sets were purchased from people who were much nicer.
Won’t be dropping any coinage at the Shack anymore. They would be better off having the lady work the floor and keep the rude ones in the stockroom.
PS, they didn’t have what I wanted anyway.

We read the negative reviews and braced ourselves for the worst. BOY WERE WE WRONG. The owner of the place was all over us with help and suggestions. He understood exactly what we were looking for and it wan’t exactly train related, it was a science project which needed little guys and trees and stuff like that. His own son was working alongside of him and they were a delight. I KNOW my son was hooked on layouts and tiny objects which light up and that this science project is going to be one for the ages. The negative reviews are wrong. If you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, they have a half dozen ways to help you.

I cannot express how awesome the staff at Train Shack are. I recently introduced this hobby shop to my brother, Brian, who absolutely loves model trains. After one visit, he was hooked not just because of their selection, the staff is just so kind and patient with him; my brother has a disability and some people just don’t know how to handle others with disabilities so it was so neat to hear that everyone knows my entire family. Another plus about this shop is their ordering because most places only order once a year and they are able to get my brother what he wants in a month or so. This place is easy to miss if you haven’t been there before, but be sure to look for the big parking sign since they have a private lot. Customers cannot enter through the back door, but they do have an an entrance on the main drag. Great place to shop and I am happy to support them!

We have made it a yearly ritual to visit the Train Shack as soon as we set up our holiday tree. We have videos taken every year that show how we’ve morphed from our original Lionel O set of track and train to several trains, more track, buildings (burning house complete with smoke and firefighters being a favorite), people, trees.
It’s such a pleasure to visit the store and see the trains they have set up, smell the latest scents (frying bacon!) for the steam engines, the figurines (bought the damsel in distress tied up and the villain today), and wish we could buy everything.
The staff is always readily available to help us find exactly what we need; and never overly solicitous. The location is convenient, hours are perfect, it’s clean and store always smells like a real train station — except better. I’ve ordered Lionel parts online — doesn’t compare with the service/​support/​care we have gotten for nearly a decade from the Train Shack.
Ladies: I’ve been married a couple of decades, and getting my husband started with this has been the best. It is easily his favorite present, and a favorite family ritual for us every year. As I write this now… he is wearing his conductor’s hat, sipping a martini, running his trains and planning which will crash next. And he’s also planning an excuse to visit the store again within the month. #BestHolidayPresentEver

coolest place to hang out and wish you have visited earlier, heck! Gary may even wave the $ 500 bucks deposit for pictures of his trains… he waved mine!

Awesome store with a great selection and display. They have everything you can think of and a lot of books as well.
This is a cool place to visit for any true train collector/​hobbyist or anyone that wants to check out a very cool store with trains.
These guys are very passionate about what they do. I wish I had a free room at the house to build a train city.

My husband and I were referred here by another train store in the area, in case there was stuff that they didn’t have. I absolutely love this place. They even have N scale German houses and business there. It is totally awesome. We went there the other day to pick up some shrubbery and other stuff to finish our mountain. They have a really good selection there. I also loved their O scale train set that they built. I couldn’t help but stare at it. I loved the town and all the detail that was put into it. We will definitely be going back here to finish our train town.

My buddy and I started our train addiction here and they really hooked it up. You’ll find almost everything here but the cost might be a few bucks more than online or another shop. However, you’ll have everything in one stop and with the expertise to follow. I found a hobby shop in Santa Clarita that had a limited inventory and absolutely no knowledge about trains. This is a great place to start and get your train freak on!
If you take in your kid, make sure you have enough money to walk out with a starter train set because the place is addicting!

CHOO CHOOOO! ALLLL ABOARRDDDD!!! This is a mighty-​good train hobbyist shop, ladies and gents. And I’m not talking about Thomas the Tank Engine (although they do that too!). This is the kind of train shop which makes you feel like you shrunk in size and are living in Mr. Rodger’s Neighborhood with the trolley.
I LOVE trains. From photographing them to riding them. In fact, I once fell through an abandoned train bridge because I was watching a train underneath me on functioning tracks and broke my shin bone. It literally popped out of my leg and my boyfriend at the time pushed it back in. To this day, I have a dent in my leg. Anyway, I digress. I love trains and this shop has everything you need. From rolls of «grass», stone, trees, bushes, bridges, little people, buildings, paints, glues, brushes, actual trains, (a stock of vintage and new train sets), and the list goes on. If you need it, you will find it. Plus, as aforementioned; Thomas the Tank Engine toys for the little ones. If you love trains or even crafts, you will love Train Shack.
Not to mention, the staff is lovely. They obviously know their product and are passionate about it. Plus, they make an effort to say hello the instant you walk in and actually approach you to ask if you are «finding everything okay». Prices are a bit high, but with the selection, service, and organization/​cleanliness of the store; you can’t complain much.
Treat your inner-​child or your train-​loving friend. This is the best train shop in the area. This train will now be departing…

HUGE VERITY OF TRAINS!
Fantastic shop for train lovers! All sizes of trains for the collectors and or non collectors… With the amazing service, plus huge verity of model trains and accessories that you can imagine. Your sure to take something home.
Last year, during December (before Christmas), we went in… to check out what they had (since a lot of people were telling us to come here in the first place). Walking in, we saw a huge display of model trains (fully equipped and running) on a customized train set. Browsing around, we were looking for a Santa train… (something cheap).
Coming out, we purchased more of the expensive electric trains…(go figure). With the customer service and help we got… we were very excited and pleased with the instructions they provided.
Purchasing additional accessories, such as: train tracks, liquid scented oil for the steam engine, human like figures and some landscape, we were very excited.
Costing us an arm and a leg of around $ 700+… well still come back and have recommended this place to everyone!
By the way, we received so many compliments on our train set. THANK YOU TRAIN SHACK for making our Holiday as unforgettable as ever.
