Technicolor Federal Credit Union is a non-​profit financial institution serving employees and family members of the entertainment industry. The credit union provides savings and free checking accounts and below market rates on loans for cars, homes and more.

History

Established in 1952.

Technicolor Federal Credit Union (TFCU) was founded on 12/​12/​1952 by Ernest Abel and seven employees of Technicolor Laboratories. In 2005 TFCU merged with another historic credit union, Entertainment Capital Federal Credit Union (ECFCU).

ECFCU was founded on 10/​27/​1966 by James Kincade and seven other employees of Samuel Goldwyn Studios as Goldwyn Studios Federal Credit Union (GSFCU). In 1980, years after GSFCU and Republic Pictures Federal Credit Union merged, Warner Brothers purchased Samuel Goldwyn Studios and renamed it Warner Hollywood Studios, and GSFCU then became Warner Hollywood Studios Federal Credit Union (WHSFCU). After the Warner Hollywood Lot was sold on 1÷1÷2000, WHSFCU changed its name to the clever double-​entendre name of Entertainment Capital Federal Credit Union.

Today, Technicolor Federal Credit Union serves thousands of members from its branches in Burbank and Hollywood, helping them to save money on loans and earn more on savings.

My issue might not be with TCFCU, but I hold them partly responsible. I thought it would be easier to pay a bill online via my credit union. So, I signed up and paid whatever needed paying. All from my computer. what could be easier. I started noticing a fee for 5.95 each month. I didn’t think much of it, but then i went back a few months and looked at how long i was being charged. Turns out once you sign up for bill pay you are charged 5.95, whether you use it or not. Total ripoff! Add to that, I don’t remember reading anything about there being a monthly fee. You think their link to bill pay would say this is not a free service! Total ripoff!

Amateurish institution. The short time we were there, experienced issue after issue. The list is far too long, but one instance on our wedding anniversary at the Hollywood Bowl (added fun, me in a wheelchair with a broken foot), due to a *glitch* in their system, we had NO access to our money, bankcards denied. No money for taxi, no money for dinner and wine in our box seats, nothing. I was in tears and we were embarrassed beyond belief. The way the chick handled it afterwards only made it worse. Horrible, horrible *bank*.
Fast forward, getting our taxes done last night, find out the tax document from TCFU LIED about an IRA transaction, which would have cost us $ 8,000!!! All’s well, got the correct documentation from our WONDERFUL current banking institution…
