I was nervous about going back to the dentist because it had been 5 years since my last dental exam/​cleaning. After receiving a referral from a co-​worker, I finally went to the Manny Macias family dentistry office.
Let me tell you, I’ve never met nicer and more accommodating people than at this office. After my first appointment I had a decent amount of work to do — nothing serious, but some deep cleanings that required a couple appointments — and I was able to get everything done in 2 weeks. Somehow they were able to work around my super chaotic schedule and get me in and finished up asap like I requested.
The dental work was painless and efficient too — I really had nothing to worry about! All in all, it was a much better experience than I feared and I would absolutely recommend this dental office to anyone who is looking for a new dentist.

I was visiting the LA area during the summer and while here on vacation one of my front veneers came off. Through Unilocal,I found great reviews and contacted Dr. Macias’s office to see if they could glue the veneer back on and hopefully get me in as soon as possible. I spoke with the receptionist, Maria, who was very, very friendly and professional. She gave me the first available appointment, which was within hours. When I arrived — and I have a terrible fear of dentists ever since childhood, I was greeted by Maria, and taken right in by Jessica, the Dental Assistant. Jessica could tell I was nervous and went above and beyond to put me at ease. The Dentist, Dr. Arpin, came in within minutes and since the veneer was intact, she was able to reattach it with no problems (for me at least). Dr. Arpin was extremely professional, friendly, and very reassuring and comforting — everything you’d want in a dentist, especially if you’re nervous to begin with. I also have to note that I feel their fee was quite reasonable — as a matter of fact, I had contacted a closer office first and was literally quoted 3 times the amount Dr. Macias’s office charged me (which was actually more than I had paid for the original veneer!). I hope to move to the LA area by next summer and will make sure that I continue to be a regular patient at this office. I am very thankful to Maria, Jessica, and Dr. Arpin for taking such good care of me — and rather quickly too!

Love the team at Dr. Macias DDS. Friendly, knowledgeable, clean and most importantly pain free or at least very, very gentle. Maria is always on top of her game and Dr. Macias is in one word — wonderful. Great manner about him… That really goes a long way in my book.

I always feel like I’m part of the family when I see Dr. Macias and Maria and the whole gang! And of course my teeth feel great! Thanks as always!

I was referred by a friend who had a kiddo and I was looking for a dentist for my kiddo. My kiddo was 3 and this was his first dental visit. What a wonderful group of people. Dr. Arpin saw my son and she spent time, chatting, goofing and laughing with him to make him feel comfortable and continued to do so throughout the exam so he didn’t even know anything was happening! When we left he gave her a hug (and he’s not a hugger!) My husband and I are now planning on switching over come next check up. :)

I can’t say enough good things about Dr Macias, his sister Maria and the entire practice in general. My entire family has been going here for more than a decade.
This is a wonderful family owned (I think it was their Fathers practice before and now Drs daughter works there as well).
They never up charge or try to get me to do anything that doesn’t need to be done. I don’t have dental insurance and their pricing is very reasonable.
I’m one of those babies that’s terrified of the dentist but all the dental hygienists and the Dr himself are so calming and very kind.
They even have a new text system to confirm and remind you of appointments.

C’mon! Are you kidding me!!! There’s nobody better! From when you arrive to the moment you leave… you are treated like… FAMILY! I think I started going in 2007… I was terrified. Now I look forward to seeing my dental family. I had some issues with my insurance that they screwed up. Maria calmly told me, «Don’t worry, we’ll figure it out what they did… it’ll be fine». And she did… it was fine. Jessica is an angel and is sooooo nice always looking out for me! Michel who cleans my teeth, he’s so good with me. He knows how much I can handle and always asks if I’m ok. And Dr. Macias… what can I say. I owe him so much. He told me a long time ago. If start to take care of teeth, he’ll make sure I’m okay for a long time. They ALL know what they’re doing! Professional, courteous & KIND!!! And here we are… roughly 8 years later and I say it with tears in my eyes… THANK YOU DR. MACIAS, MARIA, JESSICA & MICHEL.

First and foremost, I should say that I AM ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED OF GOING TO THE DENTIST!!!
I went in yesterday for my first time dental visit in three years for a general exam, as well as for a bit discomfort on the very back molar that I wanted looked at, not to mention some stains I needed removed.
The moment I went in, Maria, the front desk office manager, knew who I was (I’m sure my terrified look gave me away since I made it clear when making the appointment with her on the phone of how much of a phobia I have of dentists). She immediately tried to relax me by saying that I should view this visit as a Disneyland trip. It was actually a great way to break the ice with me since I really do love Disneyland, although I’m sure she didn’t really know that, but the effort was awesome.
Within minutes of finishing filling out the medical forms did Jessica, the dental assistant, called me in. I was quite surprised with how short the waiting room time was. As soon as we entered the room, and I asked where I can place my purse (while being on the verge of tears), did Jessica realize how scared I was. And I have to say Jessica is truly a gem! I’m so happy she was there half the time, chatting with me and explaining every nook and cranny about everything! She didn’t ever give an impatient look for my «high maintenance.» She was amazing through everything, taking pictures, doing the xrays, standing in the room while her dad, Dr. Macias, came in for the exam. She was honestly the support I was looking for in a dental office.
Dr. Macias was also wonderful. He was great in handling a person with my fear by explaining everything he was doing. I also don’t remember receiving a more thorough exam from any of my past dentists before. His visit with me was quite short since there was nothing wrong with me (no cavities, or any other teeth problems). Though he did mention about my stains and the tarter buildup, which the hygienist will be taking care of.
Lastly, Michelle (he’s a dude), the hygienist, came in for his turn. Jessica also came with us for the beginning of that, which I am glad since seeing a new person in the office can get me anxious. He was very good with measuring my gum pockets (which I’ve never had done before from the last dentist I saw who said I had Gingivitis), explaining everything with me, including showing me a diagram of teeth and gums and comparing it with a picture of my own teeth. I have never had an explanation, nor picture of my teeth, done that thorough before, and I loved it! The last experience my Gingivitis-​prone gums had with my last dentist was her grabbing the deep cleaning tool and starting to use it, without numbing anything, and her not explaining what was going on and what the problem was until already starting. Needless to say, that dentist added on to my fear, but Michelle broke my fear with his awesome methods! He was also very funny and talkative. My boyfriend had accompanied me through this whole visit due to my fear, and it was great listening to their conversations while I was getting my teeth scraped of that pesky tarter.
All in all, 5 stars for everything! I can’t say that my fear has been completely broken yet, but I can easily say now that I am actually looking forward to coming in for my next two visits for deep cleaning. I never thought I would ever say that about the dentist! My boyfriend also said he wants to come here after seeing the way they treated me and by how much he learned, and I am going to see about my dad coming in to get his teeth fixed. I can also see myself actually coming in for the routine visit like I’m supposed to every 6 months. Thank you Jessica, Dr. Macias, Michelle and Maria for being such wonderful professionals, and for making me feel like part of a family in your office.
My next appointment will be at the beginning of March so stay tuned for an update there! :)

Dr. Macias and his office are great. Very thorough cleanings and top notch work on cavities and other work.

********A GREAT PLACE FOR SCAREDY-​CATS********
Since I was going in for another 6 month cleaning, I decided to see what I wrote here 6 months ago.
!!! IT SEEMS A FEW OF MY REVIEWS HAVE DISAPPEARED!!! :-(
Since I no longer have the Word doc used to write my original review (I’m verbose, so this is probably best), I’m just going to give a «quick» summary.
I used to hate/​avoid dentists, but a traumatizing event while sleeping (seriously) REQUIRED I get in touch with my former Burbank dentist Dr. Mo. After leaving a message describing the urgent nature of my broken tooth and NOT ever, EVER, E_​V_​E_​R (!) hearing back from Dr. Mo, I checked Unilocal and found Dr. Macias. I also got in touch with a Unilocaler who had given me further details about her experience with Dr. Macias.
I was scared out of my mind before going here, but it all turned out GREAT because:
* Maria (who is NOT his wife) is a super-​friendly and welcoming person who made me feel like family …family that owes her money for visiting. :)
* Manny Macias is a pro with a fantastic personality. He is great with nervous-​types because he explains what is going to happen, often asks if you are OK, and doesn’t treat your mouth like an angry plumber fixing a garbage disposal.
* Mishel does my cleanings. He is friendly, effective and efficient. He is also great, because I don’t prefer to subject female-​kind to my less than TV-​quality chompers.
* Jessica has done my X-​rays and is not only incredibly professional, but also angelically kind and very funny. Her gentile voice could convince me to sit in a chair and subject my stupid face to state-​of-​the-​art electromagnetic radiation annually.
Hopefully, you now understand that there is nothing to fear here.
So, when is the last time YOU went to the dentist?

I should have written this review a long time ago as I probably would have saved others from the agony of trying to find a good dentist. Since my original (good) dentist sold his practice to a complete moron, I’ve been searching for years to find a new one — and let me tell you, it is NOT easy to find a good dentist. Fortunately Unilocal was here to assist me in my quest! And not only did I find a good dentist, I would even venture to say that Dr. Macias is even better than my previous good dentist! I like to call him «a magician» because it’s absolutely magical how he manages to do all manner of things with my teeth WITHOUT ANY PAIN!!! And I should emphasize that this even includes the initial application of anesthesia which he manages to do in such a slow and patient manner (always checking in with you to make sure you’re comfortable) that you truly feel nothing. I think this is the first time I have EVER had a dentist who could do that.
His staff is great and you truly feel like family when you go there. Maria even calls to follow up on your dental work to make sure everything is ok. Mary does a great job with her high-​tech computerized instant X-​rays (so you don’t have to wait around or come back on another day before seeing them). And everything there is networked together so they can do your X-​rays anywhere and just call them up to see them in another room (no waiting for someone to find your file etc…) It’s all very efficient. And Jessica (who handled my teeth bleaching setup) does a great job as well (she seems to have a sixth sense about how to handle the water suction so it doesn’t make you gag). And it doesn’t hurt that Dr. Macias’ assistants are all very pretty as well as capable. I think that’s part of his evil plan to make you feel comfortable — by surrounding you with pretty, pleasant and professional people to make the whole experience enjoyable. And as I write this, I realize that «enjoyable» is the right word to describe my experience — and I truly can’t believe I’m saying that about a dentist! But my recent experience was no exception — I truly had no anxiety at all about coming in for my appointment and I was actually excited about the work that was going to be done! And I don’t think I’ve ever had that kind of feeling about going to see a dentist. Ever…
So if going to see a dentist makes your stomach turn and your muscles tense, why not try a different way of getting dental work handled that will make you actually WANT to go see a dentist regularly? It really can be that easy and I highly recommend Dr. Macias for his pain-​free and professional approach to dental care.
p. s. When looking at reviews on Unilocal,don’t just look at the stars: go to the effort of actually reading each review to get a better idea of what each dentist is like. I think you’ll find that the couple of off reviews of Dr. Macias are not really related to his dental care and are more likely due to miscommunications that don’t do his dental practice justice. Dr. Macias is the real deal and the vast number of consistently positive reviews (many more than most other dentists reviewed on Unilocal) is a testament to that!

Dr Macias and his team provide a very comfortable atmosphere and take as much stress as possible out of a visit to the dentist. I have never had a dentist more carefully deliver Novocaine, checking my comfort level every few seconds and of course after that it is pain free. They take great care of my teeth and implore me to do so as well. I have adopted daily flossing much later in life and evidently will begin wearing my night guard too! Highly recommend!

I met Dr. Macias after a Santa Monica Dentist started drilling on the wrong tooth. I was devastated. But after a referral from a co-​worker, I headed to Burbank. And I have to say… it was the best move ever! Normally I hate going to a dentist. But not Dr. Macias! Him and his whole staff are nothing but awesome! I would drive from anywhere in LA to go to him. Which I currently do as I live in Beverly Hills. If you’re looking for the best dentist on the planet, he and his staff are the ones to go to!

I’d drive long distances to have Dr. Macias as my dentist but thank god I don’t have to because he is right here in my hometown. The office is set in a very professional environment, run by a friendly staff, and the DOC really knows his stuff. I wish I had found this office sooner.

I am somebody who absolutely loathes the dentist. No joke. I only go in for a cleaning
once a year when my insurance covers two — sometimes I can get away with a year and a half between visits. After my appointment with Dr. Arpin, however, I will definitely be getting my two cleanings this year.
They are so nice and make you feel as comfortable as possible. As a new patient, I got x-​rays — a procedure where i’m usually gagging and white-​knuckling the seat until it’s over. But the assistant gave me smaller bites and went really fast through the whole thing. It was almost comfortable! Almost…
Dr. Arpin checked every tooth and explained everything in full detail to me, which wasn’t needed but very appreciated. We chatted like friends and then I went in for my cleaning. Piece of cake! Cleanings are always painful for me, but again, it went really fast and they made sure I was as comfortable as possible. They made sure I understood everything they were doing too.
I really felt comfortable in this office and everyone made it so easy to just sit back and let them do their job. I highly recommend if you’re in the market for a new dentist. I know I’ve found mine!

I found Dr Macias via 800-​dentist 9 years ago! & I’ve been going there ever since!
dr.Macias & his staff (special shout out to Maria and Jessica, who are just awesome super sweet ladies!) but everyone I’ve ever dealt with there is super nice and helpful dr. Macias is great at explaining what is going on and what he needs to do, etc.
the only ‘cons’ i can think of is, parking can be tricky but you can usually find a spot nearby and no weekend appointments.

I picked this office because of the great reviews but I was very disappointed with my experience here. On ¹¹⁄₁ i called and made my appointment. I began with «Hi I have delta Dental PPO, are you guys accepting new patients?» The woman replied yes and we began to schedule an appointment for the 8^th (today). She took my SSN and birthday so she would look up my benefits for me and to have everything ready for my appointment. Awesome I thought.
Today I arrived 30 minutes early and sat down to do my paperwork. After waiting 40 minutes, one girl called me in and explained that they do not have delta dental PPO but Première and I would have to pay 20% out of pocket because they are not in network. I told the woman I had called and asked them specifically if they were accepting PPO and that she even took my information to look up my plan. The woman just told me that it looks like she didn’t and there was nothing she could do.
Fucking awesome.

I finally bit the bullet and decided to find a new dentist after moving from the Bay Area to Burbank. It had been at least a year and a half since my last dentist visit, and I was beginning to notice some tooth sensitivity. I feared the worst (the worst for me can be a filling — I’m a bit of a baby).
I chose Dr. Macias’s office based on Unilocal reviews and proximity to my work, and I can honestly say I could not be happier.
Jessica and Maria are EXTREMELY helpful with scheduling, checking insurance, etc. They are friendly, inviting, and charming. Jessica was my first introduction to the office, and she is the perfect person for the job. She is very warm and energetic — a good counter balance to my initial grimness/​uneasiness about possible needles in my mouth.
I was not actually paired with Dr. Macias, but instead got DOCTOR ARPIN! Let me tell you something about Dr. Arpin — she is one hell of a lady. It was through my extremely positive experience with her that I realized that my past dentist was absolutely horrendous. Dr. Arpin is a self-​proclamed «dental nerd», which is exactly how it should be! She is PASSIONATE about what she does, which makes her thorough and have an extremely high level of expectation for her work. She will also explain the procedures to you like you aren’t stupid. You will know exactly what she is going to do and why! SCIENCE! Plus, she’s got a fantastic sense of humor (no alcohol-​based mouth wash for you!!!)
Dr. Arpin and her assistant took some photos/​x-​rays of my teeth and scrupulously analyzed them. Conclusion: I grind my teeth and have two chips that need fillings. I am 27 years old and had been going to the same dentist in the Bay Area for at least 10 of those years; why was I not told sooner by them? That’s what I am saying about these guys — they watch out for you! I immediately got a mold taken of my teeth for a night guard and made an appointment the next week for two fillings.
I thought about getting those fillings at least 5 times daily until that next appointment (yep, I am a baby).
When I got into the office, I was happy to see Dr. Arpin solely because she is a pleasure to be around, but I expressed my dislike of NEEDLES IN MY MOUTH. Dr. Arpin handled it with humor and reassurance. She put the numbing gel in, and when it came to the shots…
…I didn’t feel a darned thing.
HALLELUJAH!
This woman is a miracle worker. I got my fillings done without incident and received my mouth guard (which, by the way, has indications of wear in it already — less than 2 weeks later. THEY WERE RIGHT! I DO grind my teeth!).
This is ending up to be a very long review, but I have one more thing to say: this dental office has GOT JOKES. I kid you not — everyone that works here that I have interacted with has a great sense of humor. Their interactions with each other are that of friends and fellow dental nerds. This is such a healthy, wonderful environment — emotionally and professionally. I have a follow up appointment tomorrow (3^rd visit in 4 weeks), and dare I say… I am looking forward to going to the dentist?!
Do yourself a favor and book an appointment. Dr. Arpin works on Wednesdays and Fridays — she’ll take great care of you :)

Oh my word. How could I have forgotten to write an update to my review?!
Actually, I’ll tell you how…
Because the fillings I got were so easy and pain free, that I literally forgot that I had been in the dentist chair by the following day. I meant to write an update, but my fillings were so good that I forgot, and just went about my normal every day business.
I went in to see Dr. Macias because I chipped one of my back molars a few weeks ago and wanted to make sure that it wasn’t going to be a problem, as far as growing a cavity, etc. I thought it’d just be an easy in and out — but while I was there, we noticed that a chunk of one of my white fillings (that ANOTHER dentist did for me less than 6 years ago) was missing. Shoot.
He set me up with some x-​rays, to make sure that there weren’t additional cracks and things. Dr. Macias recommended that I replace the white filling that had broken, and also said that while I was numb, he could dig out my old silver filling (the next molar over) and replace it with composite, if I wanted to do that.
In case you didn’t know — you should get your mercury filling replaced when you have insurance or inherit a lot of money. They crack, and can even break into pieces — and if you swallow those pieces, the mercury can get into your system — or something like that. All I know is, I learned enough in chemistry and from watching medical dramas on TV to know that mercury is bad for you. So take it out of your mouth and have it replaced if and when you can — besides, the composite fillings are prettier anyway. And in LA, you know that matters.

Since I don’t currently have insurance OR a lot of money, I was a little concerned with the financial prospect of getting the one chipped filling taken care of, let alone two at once.
Maria came in, and explained everything to me! And she helped me figure out a way so that I could get both fillings done.
My fillings were replaced in less than half an hour (after I got numbed up all the way) and again, when the novacain wore off, I was totally pain free. AND, my fillings fit together with my bite perfectly. From day one!
I really can’t say enough good things about Dr. Macias, Maria, Jessica, and all the other folks who work at Dr. Macias’ office.
They are kind, caring and honest folks who take good care of peoples’ teeth!
If you need a dentist, please call them immediately. I’ve tried at least 5 dentists in LA, and Dr. Macias and his staff are the best by far!
I’ve already converted half a dozen of my friends. If I’ve converted you too, tell Maria I sent you :)

Dr. Macias is by far the best dentist i have ever experienced.
I came here on recommendation from my sister and I got to say I was hella nervous at my first appointment. I hadn’t been to the dentist in over 6 years, never had a teeth cleaning — no idea what i was in for. Luckily I was cavity free and had a good set of chompers! This office got me back on track with my regular appointments every 6 month.
Dr. Macias and his staff are phenomenal. They never leave you waiting in the waiting room forever, they are polite and friendly and always remember you by name. It honestly feels like family when I get there. Maria (front desk) always greets me by name, the hygienists always remember me, any of my back story from our conversations — you really feel appreciated. The staff is gentle and considerate and always look out for you.
The office itself is high tech and awesome! I never saw a dentist office like this before. Everything is digital — even the xrays. They have a computer in every room so you can see exactly what the dentist is looking at. He breaks it all out and explains everything to you. They never over charge you and are so sweet when it comes to billing. I got a discount on one of my bills without asking or anything. They tell you all the costs up front.
AND the rooms! Every room is decked out in sports memorabilia… talk about an LA fan! Although, being a UCLA fan I have to somewhat cringe when I am in the USC room — everything else is awesome!
