Great place. Love the rolls, especially the Screen Actors and Alaska. Good attention to customers. Food tastes fresh and attention to detail

My husband and I were in the area for a vigil and were looking for a quick bite to eat. Dropped by this place since it was closest with high Unilocal rating… this place is great. Small but Not intimidating and guess if it isn’t super full, comfortable for the most part. Staff was friendly and efficient. There was music playing which was nice but not blasting so I could actually hear my husband. The food was really good. We had a roll called michelena… shrimp tempura with spicy tuna ontop… the chef added thinly(thinly) sliced lemon and it made all the difference on the roll… tasted light and was sooo delicious! Would definitely go again if ever in the area… hopefully under different circumstances. Enjoy!

Great Go To sushi spot in the North Hollywood/Burbank area. It’s very small, yet super cozy and the staff are all super friendly and courteous. They greet you, seat you, feed you, and make you feel like guests. Love, Love, love this little place.

Went here to have dinner, sat down and noticed GNATS. Moved to another table on the other side of the small restaurant and still… GNATS. Immediately got up and left. I refuse to eat raw fish from a place that has gnats in their dining area.

Kuru Kuru can sometimes be a little hit or miss, however, it is my go-to take out sushi on a Friday or Saturday night. Other nights of the week I’ve found the sushi isn’t as fresh or possibly the chef isn’t as good. I’ve never been for lunch. I enjoy the crispy rice, Cali & rainbow rolls most!

Been coming here for 12 years. Never had a bad experience. Try it before taking the negative reviews for gospel. John is a very seasoned sushi chef and he is very picky about the freshness of the fish he buys. It’s also a very low-key comfortable place. Not big, just cozy. And for you assholes who criticize about it not being a ‘genuine’ sushi bar because it’s Korean owned, there for NOT a proper ‘Japanese’ sushi bar. Go else where sushi racist.

Consistently good. Just wish it were in a bigger space. It can get a bit cramped with a full house, but the food is always terrific. Courteous service is also a plus. Highly recommended!

It is one of my favorite local spots for sushi. It’s a small place with a warm feeling. It’s my sushi comfort zone. Try something new you’ve never heard of. My son and I come here often and try new things on there menu. Yumm

I met a friend here for a quick lunch. The location being in a shopping center kind of turned me off, but after having their sushi I am totally sold on this place. We got a few different rolls, which all tasted very unique and all their fish was fresh. My only complaint would be their AC was a wall unit so it was kind of stuffy inside and especially since it’s a sushi place I think the whole restaurant should be at a certain temperature, but overall can’t complain. I will be back.

This place is just OK. Came here last night after having a mean craving for sushi and wanting to try something new. The fact that this is down the street from where I work and that they had a showbiz themed sushi menu is what convinced me. But I was pretty underwhelmed. First of all, everyone here was sitting at the bar and I did not feel like joining them, so I was the one person at a table and felt a little lonely. Scrolling through the menu, I realized a lot of their«specials» written on the whiteboard were regular menu features. The showbiz menu was pretty underwhelming in person, but I got excited that they had donburi! I ordered a veggie donburi, a salmon roe sushi(which my server asked if I wanted salmon sushi, and I said no) and a kanpachi(amberjack) sushi just because I don’t recall trying it before. Well, the veggie donburi was super disappointing. A few shreds of carrot and lettuce do not make it a veggie dish. I’m still on the lookout for a good egg-based donburi in the valley — I like Sushi Don on Laurel Canyon but that’s all the cold fish donburi. Then the sushi came out… they brought me kanpachi, salmon roe AND salmon sushi. They did end up charging me for the salmon sushi but honestly I was still hungry after the donburi and didn’t feel like disputing it since I ended up eating it. The fish was cut too thick for me; I like when sushi basically melts in your mouth, not when you become conscious of chewing it. Oy. Everything tasted mostly fresh, luckily it wasn’t a quality issue. Though I will say this — the $ 4 sake is awesome. Loved that part! And their lunch specials looked like a good deal, so maybe I just didn’t see them at their best. While there are some glowing reviews on here my experience just doesn’t match up. I would say pass, just because there is SO much better sushi you can get for the same prices. Unless you really need to fill a craving for donburi and don’t quite care how it tastes.

Kuru Kuru Sushi is hidden inside the Haggens Market Plaza. Their sushi lunch special is absolutely worth it. You get like 8 sashimi with a variety of fish and one hand roll. I did not order it, so I don’t know exactly with fish. I did however order their hirame(halibut), which was delicious. I also ordered the chicken and beef teriyaki box. The beef was not that good, but the chicken was great. The chicken was slightly overcooked, but that’s how I like it. So if you like moist chicken, stay away from this dish.

Kuru Kuru is my bi-weekly tradition since I moved to Burbank about 19 months ago. They’ve been part of the community for quite some time prior to me, but since I’ve discovered them I’ve never looked back. John and his crew make a great roll. When my fiancé and I arrive, they always know to make us two Michelina Rolls, which stand out from the crowd. The thin lemon slices pressed into the top of the spicy tuna really bring out a wonderful flavor. We also order their off-menu item, the K2 roll(which I feel bad because it seems difficult to make). It comes piled high with hot fried onions on top. It’s so tasty. Most importantly, they always make my step-daughter feel welcome. For a 7-year-old, Kuru Kuru is her favorite sushi place and they show her why on each visit. She even put Kuru Kuru on a school assignment which asked what her favorite place to eat was. Thanks guys!

I came here on Friday after work to celebrate my birthday with my best friends. We were looking at new sushi places we could try because the ones we had tried in the past were either closed or not as good. So we went on Unilocal and found this place. There was a wait on a Friday night so business was pretty good for them. I was a little disappointed though. Their menu was confusing in that they didn’t have traditional sushi menu’s that you can find at other places. I was a bit confused because it lacked the half sheet sushi ordering sheets. But that didn’t phase me as much as the lack of variety in their menu. I ended up settling down with the Chirashi bowl, but honestly I just wanted some good olé’ nigiri and sashimi. My friend ordered the salmon sashimi, but it was sliced so thin and for the price he paid for it, it was definitely not worth it. The Chirashi bowl was alright. Obviously with most chirashi rolls one has to be careful that they don’t eat too much rice to compensate for the lack of the quantity of fish. I also had a large beer that I finished by myself and a sake bomb with my friends. I got pretty buzzed but the environment wasn’t cutting it for me. I did like the scallop sushi. The scallops were fresh and sweet. The server who served us was also really good. Service was spot on. But all in all, I will not likely traverse the San Fernando Valley to frequent this restaurant again. Not unless other Sushi places have closed.

I was invited to join a fellow songwriter I met at my songwriting school for a quick bite before we went to the recording studio where I was to record my vocals for a demo of a new song she and her co-writer had written. We originally were going to try sushi at another place but it was closed so we headed here. Kuru-Kuru? Pa? LOL, «kuru-kuru-pa» in Japanese means«crazy»! Funny name for a Japanese restaurant so it was a dead giveaway that it wasn’t owned by Japanese folks. I had been told that any time you see a Japanese restaurant have funny names or any English words in them such as «Rock n’ Roll Sushi» or something like that, you can be sure they aren’t owned/run by Japanese. If you see a «Fast and Furious Tokyo Sushi» and are looking for an authentic Japanese eatery, you’ll know not to eat there ;) But I digress. The décor of the dining area was set up like a typical Japanese restaurant with wooden tables and chairs and a sushi bar attended to by sushi chefs. The menu had a good selection of traditional Japanese plates and I hadn’t had sushi in a while so I and my companion settled on the chirashi bowl which is raw fish and other things topped over a bowl of rice. I was expecting a hot wet towel to clean my hands but didn’t get that. Strike one. Strike two, the miso soup that they served us was terrible. It was so tasteless that I didn’t care for it. The chirashi bowl was just okay, a little on the small side. They weren’t very generous with the quantity of fish in the bowl and the sushi rice was too firm as if it weren’t cooked well enough. It didn’t taste like they had added any mirin to it either which is typically how sushi rice is prepared. This was just plain white rice it seemed, and Jasmine rice at that. Anyways, I also requested some hot green tea to try and soothe my throat before the studio session. They actually charged us $ 1.50 for it which normally is complimentary with a meal at a Japanese restaurant. Strike… I don’t recall now, too many to count. The chefs and serving staff were friendly and attentive but I still wouldn’t consider this a go-to place for sushi if I were in the mood next time. There’s so many better places in LA that I’d probably opt to eat at another place rather than coming back here again.

After an adventurous day throughout Los Angeles thrill seeking, I used to do something before I moved to Orange County. I would often do my SuSa or SuSu: Sushi Saturday or Sushi Sunday. With me at the heart of Hollywood, I wanted to see where the production people went to have lunch/dinner. I found a place that both served my love for sushi and my love of Hollywood. Get those chopsticks and head over to Kuru-Kuru Sushi in Burbank. Where to grab sushi?! I had no locations on my wish list or recommendations to try out. The only friend I had was my handy, dandy, Unilocal App. Since I was nearby, this came up and grabbed my attention. Kuru-Kuru Sushi is located at the southwest corner of Verdugo and Hollywood Way at the shopping plaza. Its not a huge sushi restaurant, but its just right. I want to say its almost a Hole-in-the-Wall location, but apparently, its pretty popular. With its customer base mainly surrounding the studio, you’ll be in a treat for what Kuru-Kuru Sushi has to offer. When I walked in, the setting is like any other sushi places. Its small and very intimate. I sat at the sushi bar and was welcomed by Sushi Chef, John. I ordered my Hot Green Tea($ 1.50) right away since I was fighting a minor cold. When I opened the menu, I saw right away the interesting names of the sushi rolls. Names ranging from: Warner Bros Roll, Screen Actor’s Roll, and the Director’s Roll. I already had two in mind. I ordered the Caterpillar Roll($ 9.95) as my second dish. My first order is something special to me: With my love of one theme park: I had to order the NBC Roll($ 9.50). While Sushi Chef John was preparing my order, I had noticed one couple having an intimate dinner. I am glad I saw a little away from them. They were a cute couple, but I didn’t have my significant other to join me **tears** My NBC Roll came out first. You usually don’t here that on TV. NBC… coming out FIRST?! The NBC Roll is has Shrimp Tempura, with avocado, crab, and cucumber. With my mix of wasabi and soy sauce ready, I was so eager to dip in and get the food rolling. It was crunchy and very delicious. Like all NBC jokes, its run came to its end real fast. My next roll was the Caterpillar Roll. Most sushi spots carry Caterpillar Rolls. Its just Avocado on eel with and cucumber. Hmmm… just starting to realize that I have eaten eel before. When I thought it was done and over, I was staring at the TV and listening, not just to the couple, but the other guests who love their dining experience. I had to order one more dish. I made a poor decision. Not ordering another dish, but not ordering a special dish. I just ordered a favorite of mine: Rainbow Roll($ 9.95). Its just different types of fish on top of a California Roll. One of the employees who was just getting off of his shift ordered the Walt Disney Roll($ 9.50). OK, I wonder if it has Happiness packed in it. I needed some. The Walt Disney Roll is a California Roll with albacore with another albacore on top. Double the albacore. I had asked where that came from. Apparently, the people who work at the Walt Disney Company suggested it to be on their menu. Not sure if Walt Disney loved albacore. Kuru-Kuru has other specials on their chalkboard to try out if you want to venture on something else. I wonder if Kuru-Kuru is open to other networks on their menu… Especially a red head who hosts a late night?! Hmmm… I just saw a Marilyn Monroe Roll… I wonder if that will give me the Seven Year Itch. Unilocal…I Live, Breathe, and Share my Reviews for everyone to read. Come Join Me!

Five stars? Well, I am not comparing this to some of the high end sushi spots in DTLA or other spots, this place is in a strip mall in Burbank and is something of a nice surprise in Burbank. Most sushi places get their fish from a few sources. There are different grades of tuna as an example. This place procures the top grade. The pieces are large. The prices are quite reasonable. I have compared the tuna here with tuna at some of the most respected and established places in Los Angeles. The chef is great, friendly and has a strong fan base. Comfortable and not at all pretentious, this is where I go for sushi when I want to stay close to home rather than travel or grab something quick and easy that is also quite fresh, tasty and a good value for the money.

Gotta say that their tuna and salmon sushi melts in your mouth beautifully. Came across this place while meeting up with a friend in Burbank and it didn’t disappoint at all. Well I should point out the their spicy tuna isn’t spicy at all. So my friend and I went in and the place was not busy at all, mind you it is not very big, the bar holds about 12 people and there is maybe 8 tables holding anywhere from two to four people per table. Staff is very attentive. Place was clean. Ordered the following : mix sushi, came with two tuna, two salmon, two albacore, one shrimp and one yellowtail plus spicy tuna roll. King Salmon Roll K4 — albacore sushi on q spicy tuna roll. Crispy Onion Albacore Sashimi Will have to again say their tuna and salmon melt, the spicy roll isn’t spicy at all, had to add Sriracha to it. King Salmon was more like a prince, pieces were not thick, thin cut really, tasted more the spicy roll then the Salmon. K4 is again a roll that had thin cut albacore over spicy tuna. Albacore Sashimi was just okay, nothing outstanding. Would have given this place average(3 stars) but with the excellent service and melt in your mouth tuna and salmon they deserve 4 stars. *their rolls fall apart, I’m not a chef but I would think this happens when its not wrapped correctly or tight… Just my opinion, will I return most likely if I meet up with my friend in Burbank.

I drive past Kuru Kuru Sushi all the time and being wanted to try this place, so last night we did. I’m giving this place 3.5 sta The place is very small. I think they only had like 6 tables and 12 seats at the bar. The service is friendly and quick. Chirashi bowl was pretty good the fish was fresh and perfectly prepared. The presentation was nice. The yellowtail just melts in your mouth. The tuna was great and the salmon was just so fatty awesome. I recommend this dish. The mix sushi plate was well prepared and fresh. Black Snapper nigiri was my favorite very fresh. Didn’t even have to dip it in soy sauce. Well prepared. The Yuzu was the secret. Very good. What a satisfying meal. The the temperature of the fish and the rice were perfect. The only reason I’m giving them 3.5 instead 4 because the beer was warm.
