I guess I’m one of those impatient computer users… those that get irritated at Bill Gates because I HAVE to Defrag my computer every three days or so… those that HAVE to re-​boot their computer every week or so. You know THOSE kind of computer users.
I had been using Ultimate Defrag (UD) for my defragging functions before the purchase of Diskeeper 2009 about a month ago. UD was quite a bit harder to use than Diskeeper primarily because to gain full advantage of the product, an end user had to be intimately knowledegable about their computer’s applications and /​or processes. And most people just want their computer to WORK!
Well. Diskeeper is your answer if you don’t want to know anything about your computer and all you have to do is install the product and set which Hard Drive (s) will be automatically defragmented. After those steps of «Set it, and Forget It», that’s all you have to worry about.
Diskeeper’s InvisTasking technology really works! There is absolutely no slow-​down of any other processes on the computer, that I can see. The CPU Usage, although, always shows 2% to 7% activity and peaks to 35% to 47% activity during periods of idle.
There is a downside to Diskeeper, versus UD. Boot times ARE longer now that I can’t dictate to Diskeeper specific file placement. Not by much, but Boot times are definitely longer.
I doubt Diskeeper’s claim of increased Hard Disk life, though. You might get less Disk thrashing with a Hard Disk that is consistently defragmented, but that’s offset by the fact that Diskeeper is ALWAYS running.
