Description

Specialties

The Bill Howey Acting Studio is primarily a scene study workshop. We also do cold reads and monologues. All scenes are performed twice each class for two weeks with a full in-depth critique after each performance. The critiques last over 20 minutes. Bill emphasizes being Believable, being «In the Moment,» and Listening. And always bringing your own unique personality to the part. Bill teaches the many acting elements that create a strong character and a strong story.

«The best training comes when an actor develops character choices by exploring and including his or her own qualities.» — Bill Howey

History

Established in 1985.

Bill Howey’s teaching career started in 1980 when Milton Katselas invited Bill to run The Beverly Hills Playhouse. Bill Howey became Milton’s Executive Director of The Beverly Hills Playhouse. After two years running the school Milton asked Bill to teach three of his classes.

One of Milton’s students recommended his cousin, George Clooney, to study at The Beverly Hills Playhouse. A young 22-year-old George Clooney went into Bill Howey’s class in 1983. At the time George was just one of Bill’s many students who received Bill’s inspiring, challenging, passionate and encouraging lessons.

Bill Howey left The BH Playhouse October 1985 to go on a sailing adventure with his wife, Carla and his son, Steve. The sailing trip lasted a year. Bill decided to start his own acting classes called The Bill Howey Acting Workshop and has been teaching actors ever since.
