I am at a hotel near the hotel so took a chance on this small seafood restaurant. I had a dozen clams on the half shell and the haddock fish and chips. The food was very good and the service was outstanding…5 stars. Can’t go wrong if you want a quick quiet meal.

This is my first visit in over 20 years. Back then they had two policemen directing traffic every Friday. Driving by every day I was not sure if it was even open. I am a lover of a good fish fry and the fish is the most important to me. Sorry to say walking in the front door my nose was assaulted by the fish market smells. Yes, this is a fish market as well as a restaurant and yes, having lived/worked in SE Asia for many years you would think it would not bother me. Being older I have found it takes a lot for me to smell anything. Not a problem here. Getting a small piece of fried haddock to take home was not expensive. My family would not allow me in my home, because of the smell. Not good. The taste was not bad. The breading needs improvement. Panko might help. BUT in the short time I was there the staff was complaining about management/coupons/customers. They even got a call from a customer who said they found a hair in the new shrimp & fries. The cook was almost bald. But the staff mentioned that the servers was not required to wear hair net. The cook offered to refund money for the item that had the hair but not both, whatever that meant. I have a fish fry EVERY week but this is the first time it smelled, in over 10 years and the staff comments really put me off.

i should have known it was a bad sign when i was the only patron in the restaurant at 8:30 on a Saturday night. Also the waitress said i was only her third customer she had this evening. I ordered an appetizer, it was two«crab» stuffed banana peppers($ 6.00). What was actually served was two peppers stuffed with dry stuffing mix covered in cheese. I could not taste or see any crab within the peppers. I barely ate one, the other will sit in my fridge for a few days before i toss it. The fish sandwich($ 7.50) was an improvement. a couple pickle slices made up the side portion i guess. They would like to hit you up for more cash to get fries on the side($ 1.75). The fish was a nice size portion with a unique breaded coating. I opted for no tartar sauce. Also added a slice of american cheese. I did enjoy the sandwich though. Fish was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Some sort of side would be nice when ordering a sandwich. Chips would have worked just fine. $ 2.50 for a beverage is a little pricy in my eyes. If there were a next time, probably not, i would just go with a water. Maybe their seafood take out is the bread and butter of the business. Should have taken pics, rookie mistake, won’t happen again.

My friends and I happened upon this unassuming restaurant on our way home to Watertown, NY from Louisville, KY. Do not pass this opportunity up! We were looking for good seafood and got excellent! When the food arrived we forgot all about taking pictures to post and dug right in! Thanks Captain and Kelly! We will be back to sing for you again!

Ok. It’s not fine dining. But if you want fish this is the place to go. It reminds everyone of their favorite fish restaurant at the shore. There is a bit of a fishy odor inside. But that’s ok. The people are great. The service is great. Everything is fresh and well prepared. No oily or overly fried greasy or over battered taste to the fried fish… All the flavors come out and come out nicely. The fried haddock was surprisingly light. And the PACU fish ribs. …never heard of fish ribs… and they were wonderful. …Worth the trip back for them alone! The Cole slaw was served on a bed of corn and tomato salsa. The homemade sauce for the clam strips was outstanding. A very enjoyable late lunch for us. We’ll be back.

It’s snowing a little today and I decided that what I really wanted was a nice bowl of chowder. Not willing to risk food poisoning(again) from Wegmans soup bar, I ventured down the road to Captain’s Cove. The restaurant looks clean and bright, and I was excited about the list of specials. My lunch companion had a hard time choosing and decided to get the shrimp and scallops pasta dish($ 18). I opted for the lobster mac ‘n cheese with a bowl of soup instead of a salad($ 10). It’s noon, on a Thursday, and we are 1 of 3 occupied tables in the restaurant. The waitress informs us that she is out of their signature clam chowder. What? This is a seafood restaurant, right? As a backup, I order their lobster bisque. It takes almost 20 minutes for us to get my soup and his side salad. The soup arrives and is significantly paler in color than bisque normally is. My guess is there is too much milk, which is also evidenced by the distinctive lack of taste. It’s like having a bowl of warm milk with bits of fleshy substance. The amount of actual lobster in the soup was minimal. Another 20 or so minutes later(this is definitely not the 1-hour lunch kind of place, and it wasn’t busy enough to be THIS slow), our lunch finally arrives. It looks good. The pasta dish is bright with lots of colorful peppers and greens and the shrimp and scallops look perfectly cooked. I am envious until my lobster mac ‘n cheese arrives and looks inviting with crunchy bread crumbs on top. Excited, I lift my fork and try to get some crunchies for my first mouthful. Ugh. They weren’t breadcrumbs — they were baked, rock hard noodles. Not entirely discouraged, I speared the middle of the dish and brought out a nice portion of lobster, cheese, and noodles. Taking a big bite, my mouth was completely underwhelmed. It tasted like … nothing. Thinking this was maybe a one-off, I asked how the delicious looking pasta dish was. It had no seasoning and was almost as completely flavorless as my lobster dish. I’m hungry and $ 35 poorer. The waitress didn’t even ask why neither of us ate our lunches. The only reason I made it back to work on time was probably because I didn’t eat. We will(obviously) not be going back.

W E L C O M E B A C K C A P T A I N ’ S C O V E ! ! ! New & Improved, new owners, new menu, with some old favorites, and the only thing they kept was the fabulous cook, Tony. After month’s of waiting, the sign outside changed from coming soon to NOWOPEN. I turned my car around and was glad I did. For many years this building has been crying for a facelift and gone was the old 70’s red and burnt orange and hello beautiful soothing ocean blue tones. As I walked in, I heard they were open for three days. Nobody crying, nobody yelling. Shiny new paper menus with some new yummy changes. I read the menu three times, trying to decide, there were just so many delicious possibilities! If your partner prefers something other than seafood, there is steak and and chicken or the traditional Beef on Weck and a children’s menu selection, one price for all with a drink included. The prices went up to keep up with the times, 12.99 for a haddock fish fry, but that seems to be the going rate at all my favorite stops. I ordered Caribbean Coconut Shrimp with Pina Colada Sauce and the 10 oz Haddock Fish Fry to go. While I waited for my order, I was able to talk to a couple owners for a bit. They are listening to what people have to say and are in process of designing some family packs and hope to have them available in a couple weeks. Yay! The coconut shrimp was so succulent I wanted to cry and wished it would last forever. The fish filet was generous and fresh cut fries, a very welcome change from so many frozen fry joints out there. That’s the deal breaker for me. There are desserts on the menu for far less dollars than the competition is offering. I predict a lively and steady business with so much of the better than before the crew has to offer. Good Luck and see you soon!
