History
Established in 2012.
Although the owners remain the same, they have decided to take Tip O’Leary’s Bryn Mawr (which was established in 2009) in a new direction. Bryn Mawr Beef and Ale is offering a new menu, locally brewed beers on tap, and a friendly atmosphere for neighbors and visitors!
Meet the Business Owner
John O.
Business Owner
At the tender age of 18, John O’Connor became a bar owner when he bought out his father’s partner at the Gaslight in West Philadelphia. At 19, he struck out on his own and bought the neighborhood bar Gaffer’s Pub at 47th and Baltimore. It was a tough location, but John’s hard work turned it into a thriving, successful place. His next business ventures included Kelliann’s Bar and Grill, and Kelliann’s Tavern, named for his lovely wife. Some years later, he took his bar know-how to the suburbs, establishing Tip O’Leary’s Saloon with his brother, Dennis, and lifelong friends, Vince and Brendan Murphy. They then opened a second Tip O’Leary’s in Bryn Mawr, but after three years, they decided to take the location in a new direction. John now spends most of his time at «Bryn Mawr Beef & Ale». Here, he personally makes each delicious Hand-Carved Hot Sandwich, assisted by Kelliann, their four (almost) grown children, Stephen, Carol Ann, Tricia, and J.P., and his grandsons, David, Kevin and Trey
