Ruby’s Diner is a Southern California institution famous for its burgers, shakes and classic American comfort food served in a retro, swing-era atmosphere.
The décor, featuring vintage artwork and memorabilia, is a throwback to the heyday of the 1940s and 1950s. Ruby’s Diner has 36 family-friendly locations in California, Hawaii, Nevada, Texas, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
History
Established in 1982.
Ruby’s Diner captures all of the good feelings of America’s past and present. The 1940’s were a time of great trials for our country. Ruby’s Diner re-creates the food, the feel, and the service of the All-American Diner.
Ruby’s Diner first opened on December 7, 1982 in a converted bait shop at the end of the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach, California. On that day our founders, Doug Cavanaugh and Ralph Kosmides, worked the grill and cashier station and pulled in a whopping $ 63. Since then, things have grown and Ruby’s Diner now has 42 family-friendly locations in Southern California, New Jersey, Nevada, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington.
By the way, there is a real Ruby. Ruby is Doug’s mother and the Ruby girl cheesecake character was derived from a photograph taken of Ruby while cheerleading for Fremont High School in Los Angeles.
