The Lodge at Bryce Canyon

Sure I’m not here to watch tv but it sure would’ve been nice to have one and ditto for air conditioning. However, They do provide Internet and one of those old school oscillating fans.
If you have toddler age kids they might not like this place that much. We spent 1 night here and 2 at Ruby’s. They liked the other by far.
Get a calzone at LaVal’s for dinner… You’ll thank me. The hotel and all other restaurants here are either a bad value or just plain bad.
I’m going to ding them for price and the lack of AC.

This is a review of the restaurant at the lodge. The service was terrific; the food was not. Our dinner got off to a bad start when we attempted to order drinks. The restaurant menu listed five intriguing craft beers, but the waitress informed us they were out of four of them. The spinach salad — purported to be topped with bacon and blue cheese — was smothered with bacon-​hued chunks of some unknown substance and finely sliced bits of a cheese-​like product, neither of which possessed any flavor. The waitress recommend the chicken picatta, a dish bereft of any lemon, white wine, or other flavors. The chicken pieces tried to attain legitimacy with some form of tasteless breading, and sat atop a mound of pasta swimming in an ambiguously cheesy and bland sauce. The side vegetables were drained of color, to the point of making me wish I had been served the water in which they were boiled far too long. The meal left me uninterested in eating, yet not full. I hope this restaurant, in one of the world’s most special places, finds a chef willing to cook food as appetizing as the wait staff are friendly.

Yep, it is a little run-​down but I enjoyed my stay at the Sunrise building at Bryce. Nice front-​desk staff (sometimes the room is ready before 4pm — keep checking with them). Pleasant room with big bed, clean bathroom, one comfortable armchair, a small table with two chairs, microwave and mini-​fridge.
The weather was too blustery to sit outside but this second storey room had a lovely private porch with chairs.
TIP: If you find the Lodge too pricey ($ 213/​King room) — it is an easy drive from hotels outside the park to the various hiking trails/​overlooks. Staying at the Lodge is convenient but we might stay farther away next time for better food choices.

I’ve never been so hot in a hotel room ever before in my life. Our thermostat read that it was over 80 degrees at night and we were helpless with controlling the heat (no ability to lower it). We wound up opening the door to the balcony, even though it was 30 degrees outside at night. The building we stayed in and the main lodge that houses the restaurant were stifling hot. I guess that’s how they do things in Bryce. Anyway, if you want easy access to the canyon at all times of the day (DO NOT miss stars at night!!! Bring a flashlight!), this is the place to stay. Quality is along the lines of a motel, for sure. Beds were mainly comfortable. It’s rustic. Room was set up exactly the same as Zion, but was not as nice at all. Lower your expectations and you’ll do great! After all, you came to the National Park to enjoy the scenery, not stay in your room. :)

The lodge is the only game in town if you want to stay rightnext to the canyon but it is dated and most of the employees were either rude or, more commonly, indifferent. When we had trouble with the key to the room (in a separate building from the main lodge) an employee helping another couple with bags said he couldn’t help, go to the desk. The rooms are spacious but very dated, like 1970’s dated. Even the gift shop still had a Xmas tree up. In April. The toilet is SO loud that if you use it in the middle of the night you are guaranteed to wake anyone else in the room up. There is a warning on the hotel room door that you are staying in a historic building and therefore might be sharing it with mice and bats. At $ 300 a night? Such a different vibe at this place then at Zion where nearly everyone seemed excited to share the beauty of the environment with you. At Bryce they just seem eager to have you move along. We dined 3 times in the lodge dining room, 2 servers were fine and the last was just plain crabby. The food was ok and not as highly priced as I would have expected given the fact that once again they are the only game in town.
The only thing that recommends this place is the location. No views from the rooms themselves (except of trees, not of the canyon) but you are easy walking distance to the rim of the canyon.

This place exceeded my expectations at every turn while I was staying there for new years. I think it’s the first year they’ve kept any part of the lodge open during winter and it was just one building – the sunset motel. That meant there was no restaurant, no real lobby, no fireplace, but it did mean you could stay on the rim of the auditorium while it was covered in snow.
The building was literally 100 yards from the rim and we had a balcony that faced the rim even if you couldn’t see it through the pine trees. Still, the balcony with views of the snow-​covered pines and clear night sky were how my wife and I rang in the new year while drinking nearly frozen champagne slushies because it was so cold outside that it literally partly froze as you poured it. Later on I’d check and find out it hit –15 degrees outside, but long after we’d retired back into the room.
The room was big with two queen beds and lots of space for us and our 18-​month-​old to roam about in. It had a mini-​fridge and microwave which we used extensively to feed ourselves without a restaurant around. The «lobby» (which was really just a hallway) always had hot chocolate, tea, and coffee ready and during breakfast hours they had a «light» continental breakfast with the usual things including bananas, cereal, instant oatmeal, bagels, and muffins.
Really, the gem of it was just how close it got you to all the major hiking in Bryce. You can’t beat being able to walk 2 minutes out of your room and be looking at all of the hoodoos from the canyon rim or hiking down into the amphitheater to the Queen’s garden.
Lastly, and this is somewhat surprising, the rooms seemed to have very thick walls. I heard pretty much nothing even though I know the place was full and had many kids (including mine) staying there. That’s a really nice feature if you’re staying with kids that need sleep.

We arrived late in the evening and the hotel called us to check if we were ok. We arrived and we were surprised to see how cute our room was, very large and confortable king size bed, a nice balcony. The lady who welcomed us was very nice. In the morning we woke up to see the sunrise it was so peaceful and beautiful, just foots away from our room. The breakfast was supposed to be a «light breakfast» but it was perfect for us. This stay was perfect and we would stay there again without hesitation!

We stayed here for their pilot winter season where only one hotel building was open. You check in, in one of the actual rooms where they have set up a temporary office. Finding it was a task thinking the actual main lodge would be open, when it wasn’t. The room was very rustic with a really comfy bed and matching rustic furniture. We had a patio that was attached to the room which was cool, but with the 20 degree weather we didn’t use it. Rooms have no Wifi and no TV which I think would make sense if you were staying at the lodge during the main season with everything open you have plenty to keep you busy. But with only one building open (your room) and nothing else it was a little of a let down. I definitely loved the place but based on the website and what they say they offer during regular season I recommend checking this place out then and not winter. I could have stayed 10 minutes down the road at a hotel with TV, Wifi, gift shop, and restaurant for cheaper. You’re definitely paying for location.

We stayed one night in a «Western cabin.» It was lovely. Nice décor, great beds and linens, and quiet. (No TV or Internet.) Getting up and being inside the park before other visitors who have to drive in is really nice. Eating at the Lodge was underwhelming (esp. service).

The lodge needs a renovation. Quaint is fine, but at $ 200+ price point, we may expect a bit more — the rooms were old feeling but clean. Very «lodge-​y» which is fine. No AC, TV or Internet in the rooms and wifi only in the main lodge which isn’t attached to the rooms. We got torrential rains during our stay (no ones fault) but we were stuck in 80% of the day without much to do. (The lobby has a sign «no tv, we have board games). There’s a fan for air circulation (a desk fan not a ceiling fan) but I don’t know how you could stay in the summer. Luckily it was cool, the only good thing in the weather. The lodge was small and packed with no seating bc of the weather. They had a meeting room they could have repurposed with more chairs for guests.
We’d not have minded the lack of amenities if the weather was good but wish we were aware prior to booking. It was nice being right in the park, but the drive in from the main stretch is only a couple miles (easier than the Grand Canyon that is about 30min).
The on site restaurant was pretty good for what you may expect. Generous portions, decent food and service and not too expensive. No bar on site, which would have been nice given the weather.
If all you want is a clean bed and don’t mind the price of the rooms, stay here. Otherwise there is better value elsewhere.

Anywhere else this lodge would be 2 – 3 stars and $ 89 a nite but since your room is a stone throw away from the edge of one of the most magnificent canyons in the world you gotta pay the price… hey, I love indoor plumbing just like the next gal. The rooms were immaculate, the bathroom design is another, one of the rings around the shower head was dangling & the toilet is loud & can suck an internal organ out of you. Don’t know if the noisy fan does anything but make too much noise. All in all its location, location. Room was comfy, double pain windows kept the outside construction at bay. Lobby has wifi. Rustic. We asked where we could buy wine, the young gal claimed she didn’t know… so you’ll know, just outside the park at Ruby’s resort/​store for wine & amenities. Restaurant is to be desired, an over priced mess. And we went to the restaurant for dinner & they put prickly pear sauce on everything! Wilted spinach of a salad, my BF salad was missing the strawberries. Thank goodness wine is served in the restaurant. After the restaurant fiasco, we decided to purchase some cereal, milk, gourmet coffee, wine & munchies to place in our fridge (provided) microwave & small coffee maker included. For Christ sakes does anyone in this area do gourmet food… shocking! One would think the canyon inspires a persons creative juices. Besides the canyon being the most inspiring & awesome show stopper, I’ll include the gift store, it is well curated, but the staff should be educated on the artist work. More regional native clothing, goods & less repetitive tshirts.

We stayed in Sunrise lodge, with a large deck and easy access to the sunrise view, which is pretty darn spectacular. We have enjoyed staying at Zion and North Rim park lodges, but this one doesn’t take advantage of the view potential. It is a historic spot, and the dining room is pleasant.
We booked the North Rim lodge well in advance, but we weren’t sure if we would make it in a day drive from north rim to Bryce, and had not been that impressed with this lodge on our previous visit. When we got close and back in cell range, we reserved their last room during high season when most of the tourists are from Europe or Asia. They tend to congregate in the Lobby, all trying to suck up the slow Wifi that is only available there. It really is nice to get away from it all in a park, so no Wifi is fine with me. The lodge room is spendy at $ 200, but it really is a one of a kind place.
The dining room has a nice wine list. Food was pretty good, considering your options are limited if you stay here.

Excellent location and great facilities! I had a great stay in the Sunrise Point building, just a 2 minute walk from the rim! The staff was pleasant and kind, and check-​in was quick and painless. The hotel was quiet and comfortable. The restaurant’s food was fair, with the exception of the breakfast buffet, which was basic but good. The hiking in the area is wonderful, and there’s a free shuttle which drops you off at the main points of interest. I would definitely stay here again!

This place was one of the highlights of my whole roadtrip. Just lovely. Location right in the heart of the canyon definitely helps (steps from the «amphitheater») but everything here is so nice! Would go back in a heartbeat

Loved the cabin! We’ve stayed at facilities at national parks before. We paid a lot and got a dirty junky place. This cabin at Bryce was not like that. it was wonderful! Clean, modern, and the location right by the canyon was super. We went to the rim at night to see the millions of stars! It was just a short walk down the sidewalk to the rim. Great!

We stayed in the Western Cabins and they are full of character, well appointed, and one of the best cabins I have stayed. The beds are comfortable, shower had hot water during the entire showers, and it is a short walk to the trail heads within the park and the lodge dining restaurant. The heaters worked well for the chilly night we spent there, also the showers were nice and clean. There is a wood burning fireplace with wood in there for one night’s use as well as a patio with a bench. Romantic and a nice change from the typical motel room. I plan on reserving one of the Western Cabins for our next stay in the Bryce Canyon park. There is no wifi in the cabins (which is actually nice).

We stayed one night at the Sunrise Point building. The room was clean and had a balcony but the rooms don’t have air conditioning and is pretty expensive for $ 200+/night. It’s conveniently located and within walking distance to the rim of Bryce Canyon, the lodge where there is free WIFI and the restaurant is located, and the Pizzeria and coffee shop which is pretty small but has super friendly staff. The front desk staff however was not very friendly when I checked in and not very helpful.

We stayed in the «motel» block towards Sunset Point. Large spacious rooms with hickory furniture. Well built. Quiet, very clean and the housekeeping staff were attentive. Wi-​Fi in the Lodge. Great effort has been made to preserve the historic buildings and grounds. No TV and no laundry services. The restaurant had a good menu, excellent food, and impeccable service. We treated ourselves to 2 nights although this is double what we usually spend on the road for a hotel.

We recently spent a night at Bryce Canyon National Park, Sunset Point. We enjoyed the park so much that I didn’t want to leave and we were perfectly happy with the lodge.
The canyon rim and the main Lodge restaurant were an easy walk. We found plenty of parking next to our room so we didn’t carry the luggage far.
The rooms are not equipped with an iron, so I did the old «steam the clothes in the shower» thing and we looked perfectly acceptable at dinner. Dinner at the lodge, by the way, was excellent. Far better than we expected from a National Park.
The room was noisy around 11 pm because a busload of teenagers partied in the parking lot for a while before their bus left, but we heard no noise from other rooms.
The rooms remind me of cabins, built of massive wood and a little dark, and the room decorations are appropriate for the region. There was a Navajo blanket hanging on the wall, for example. Very comfortable bed and well equipped room. You have to go to the lodge for wi-​fi, however.
The rooms are not air conditioned. During June, the days are quite warm and the evenings quite chilly. We were perfectly comfortable with the window to the balcony open. The main Lodge had a fire going in the fireplace at breakfast.
I highly recommend staying at the lodge, as opposed to a hotel in town. The rooms and the lodge restaurant are quite nice and you’re in the middle of everything you want to see. They add to the ambiance.

Dad: NONE.
The main lodge itself is cozy with over-​sized couches and rocking chairs. The gift shop is located to the left of the front desk, the dining room to the right. Wifi was spotty on my phone and internet flat out didn’t work in the dining room; however, I had a great signal in our room.
The room itself was what our family hated. We stayed at the Sunrise Point building. It was extremely old, outdated, and smelled just as ancient. I gave the lodge two stars instead of one because I was able to take a shower and sleep in the bed without too much discomfort.
Keep in mind that I’m extremely picky about hotel rooms. I get grossed out easily so I’m glad that the shower was clean. It also had a timed heat lamp. I still slept with pajama pants and socks though because I wanted my skin to touch the bed as little as possible. Yes, I’m that picky. My family’s main complaint was that the bed was extremely uncomfortable, particularly the pillows. No one got a good night’s sleep.
My dad chose this place because Frommers recommended it and because it’s located inside the park. We all now agree that the benefit of its location isn’t great enough to chose the lodge over the Best Western located right less than a five minute drive away from the park’s entrance.
