Less like a coffee shop and more like tables along the top edge of terraced seating overlooking an art exhibition space.

This is a coffee shop/café with a smallish selection of drinks, sandwiches, and breakfast foods. The food and drinks seem to be similar in quality to the other Hungry Ghosts in the area, but what really makes this place special is the fact that it’s located within the BRIC Art Gallery, a fantastic place with new exhibits every few months. I haven’t been wowed by the food, drinks, or service, but we still enjoy coming to check out the latest art exhibit, do some work in the tables overlooking the gallery, or having a glass of beer or wine during their evening hours. This is a great place to bring family or friends visiting to show them some up and coming artists’ works, without the costs and lines of some of the bigger and more famous galleries in the city.

This place is banging! Everyones having a chat over some coffee, while i return for my regular Large iced late. Quiet enviroment with the occasional fun play on the stoop. Deffinatly worth the 5& change for the coffee, welcome to 2015:)

Unmotivated staff, strange tasting tea, a hipster atmosphere with all its glory insecure, awkward traits. The décor is nothing special, the guys behind the counter were fidgeting about for no reason. Why return?

This coffee shop is hard to spot since, it’s down an unpopulated street and the entrance is a side door. I remember the first time I came here, I knew the address and I was already a fan of the other Hungry Ghost locations. That being said. I was not prepared to walk right into an art museum. What a wonderful surprise. Once, you walk through the side door, you make a left to get to the coffee bar. I loved the mural behind the bar. And every time I go the mural changes. By the coffee bar there are also little tables and chairs. You are not allowed to eat outside food here so make sure to come here for their lunch offerings or coffee and treats. I personally enjoy the coffee and the breakfast cookie. I have also had the hummus plate. And there are definitely options here for everyone. I have yet to try the soups. I think I might arrive here a little to late for the best pickings. My favorite part about this coffee shop is the view. Below the tables and chairs there is tiered, Roman style seating creating an amphitheather that leads down to the art exhibit. This time it was a music exhibit called«Art into Music». There was a giant tower of boom boxes. Do kids even know what those are? And then there was a wall covered in gorgeous record covers. I especially enjoyed the glass cases of old concert flyers and zines. After getting my art fill, I sat at the top of the seating and munched on a hummus plate. I highly recommend coming here int he middle of the day, leaving work and just enjoying life and the ambiance. Last time I was here Otis Redding was playing and it couldn’t have been a better day break!

This is a small café located inside Bric House and makes for a nice place to sit, talk, and grab a coffee before or after seeing an exhibit or performance. Seating is limited(4 tables or so) and it’s right by the door, so freezing for most of the year since the space isn’t well heated. The staff is friendly, but not too knowledgeable about the products or the coffee. The drinks are ok, but it’s still priced pretty steeply. I’d only go here if I really couldn’t wait to go elsewhere to have a coffee beverage.

Sure, stumptown is great. But an iced americano with three goji berry sized ice cubes floating at the top, not so great. Especially with unfriendly service. The one up the street is great though. The atmosphere is strange too. I know its in an art center, but to my un-caffeinated brain, I felt like I was in the Woody Allen movie ‘Sleeper.’

I found myself browsing the selection of foods here while getting certified for some production classes at BRIC. I tried one of their sandwiches but it just wasn’t worth the calories. I also tried their gluten free chocolate tort thingies, which were really good. The problem was that most of the time they were out of it, or would only put it out at like 3pm — so if you didn’t know to ask for it, you wouldn’t get any. Really strange I think I also tried their gluten free… or was it vegan. breakfast bar. I wasn’t that impressed to be honest. Everything was expensive but just meh, with the exception of the chocolate tortes. Hungry Ghost is in a fabulous location — you have the steps with the cushions looking out at the art installation, and some tables for you to work on your laptop. You get free wifi and the space is usually pretty quiet. However, you can take advantage of their space without really spending a dime on the food if you want to.

Good coffee, really pleasant service, and good selection of treats and pastries. Dealing with the BRIC folk who noisily set up camp is a little obnoxious, but if you get there on a quiet afternoon it is a great setting for working or conversation. The iced coffee is overpriced to say the least. When Hungry Ghost gets to choose the soundtrack, it is a good ambiance.

I don’t know how much these other people were paid to write these glowing reviews of this place but my experience here is nothing like what these other reviewers describe. The place at the moment is dark with all the overhead lights off making it hard to read. My nearly $ 9 sandwich has one single slice of ham on it(see picture) and the coffee is alright but stumptown is nothing to toot your horn about. Over priced and underwhelming. Don’t be fooled by the sleek design as this is mediocrity at best.

I love hungry ghost at BRIC! I have been going here regularly for coffee(StUMPTOWN!) and small bites for months now. It’s the best coffee within the downtown Brooklyn area for sure. It’s a great space to come and get a little work done whether creative or otherwise, always puts me in a good headspace. You can also peruse the art exhibit that goes beyond the«stoop» which is a stadium like seating area.

Do you know you get 10% off when you become a BRIC member? Once again, I have to say I loves me some BRIC. I wasn’t familiar with Hungry Ghost(is that a play on Holy Ghost?) but got one of their chocolate chip cookies after a show and have been in love ever since! I love how they’re open the entire night while there are happening ons(and when there are not). A great addition to the neighborhood!

I ordered wine a few days ago. The wine glass was not rinsed properly, so the wine tasted like soap residue. Also, someone ordered the exact same wine in the same type of glass after me, and was given significantly more wine. Needless to say, I was not happy with my experience.

Hungry Ghost(what a unique name) is an artsy/modern-looking café that provides a space for thinkers, artists, or hungry patrons alike. It’s situated at the entrance to the BRIC House, so don’t walk past without taking a quick look inside. The area itself is spacious, airy and just emits that creative/inspiring vibe. This café offers a nice selection of coffee, food items and bite to munch on. Unfortunately the soups weren’t going to come in until later, so I didn’t get a chance to try them. However, I opted for their Fresh Mozz, Tomato, Mixed Greens, and Pesto Mayo on a Baguette. It only took about 5 minutes to make and they warmed it up in their panini grill. The guys working there were very friendly and patient while I perused the menu. I think a good sandwich has to have a few qualities. ONE being that the bread is crispy on the outside and pillow-y on the inside. And holds up no matter what the fillings are. TWO. If there’s cheese and it’s toasted… It should melt and ooze throughout the entire sandwich. THREE. There’s gotta be a fresh element on there. Veggies are a nice touch. Makes you feel like it’s somewhat healthier.* And I have to say my Mozz sandwich had all of these components! I really enjoyed my first exp. at this little café and can’t wait to come back and seek out the rest of their menu. Oh and free wifi? And comfy seats? I’m down. ________________________ *Who are we kidding?

A good space to collect your thoughts and whatnots away from the bussle of Brooklyn street chaos. There is a limited menu but with enough choices to be able to enjoy with space and art. You will have to wait for an open table or look for a comfortable spot. If you are looking for a quiet area to read or study, this is not the place for you. But I am glad of the additions of the gallery, café and TV studios to the area and hope it stays around for a long time.

One of the most interestingly and gorgeously designed cafes I’ve ever seen. Consists of two spaces or rather, levels. The top level is the normal flat floored café with tables and chairs(though in this case, super gorgeous geometric chairs that are thankfully not just gorgeous but comfortable as well). The second level consists of a wide staircase with cushioned pillow seats, like a hipper and non-violent Roman gladiator audience arena that faces a wider space for shows or installations. When I was there though, the stage was closed so it was just facing a gate but who cares, the dipping staircase was still gorgeous. Enough of the gorgeousness of the use of the ‘gorgeous’ word for now… about the service, it was friendly and casual. The staff does check up on you, if everything was ok. As opposed to other places where the staff is superfluously hip that they are too hip to be friendly, focusing instead on their iPhones and asymmetrical haircuts. Ugh. Thankfully Hungry Ghost is super friendly. The prices are a little high but in a Starbucks way. And, no one seems to complain against Starbucks’ prices. At Hungry Ghost, they serve the much lauded Stumptown Coffee. It was my first time trying it. While it was good, it was just good. While good, it was not anything special, spectacular or life-changing. Or, maybe I’m just not a coffee aficionado or maybe my tongue is just not fancy enough. It’s probably the latter. As for the food, the portion was sufficient and fair. I ordered the bacon and Gouda cheese sandwich/panini. It was toasted well and tasted awesome. At 8 bucks, it was pricey but this is not McDonalds. You pay for great food, exponentially better service, much cleaner bathroom(as clean as a Calvin Klein showroom) and an extremely gorgeously designed place. If it’s a choice between surfing the net at McDonalds with a dollar menu and crazy people dangerously talking to themselves vs paying a little extra to have coffee here at Hungry Ghost with equally free wifi, um duh??? Hungry Ghost it is!!!

This space is so beautifully designed, I can hardly get over it. And the coffee and food are equally as amazing. The café is located at the entrance to BRIC House, a wonderful new arts space. The seating area is bright and airy and overlooks a huge open gallery. They offer Stumptown Coffee and a full menu of delicious food and pastries. I tried the Smoky Baked Tempeh sandwich — so big and flavorful! It was awesome. I could only eat half, but now I get leftovers to take home. Score! I also had an apple turnover and a soy latte, both of which were completely wonderful. And it doesn’t hurt that the latte was made by a super cute barista in a cowboy hat. I have a thing for cowboy hats, what can I say? They have free wi-fi and a great soundtrack. This is definitely my new go-to café if I need to spend a day working or just want a place to have a cup of coffee and sit with a book or my journal. It’s a great place to come if you want to feel inspired.
