U-Haul Moving & Storage of Bensonhurst

Horrible service. Unsecured facility. My unit was broken into ransacked and everything destroyed. When I complained I got nothing but dumb looks and the number to an insurance company. I received no compensation, total waste of time and a TOTAL DISASTER.

The service could be a little better I know it was early in the morning but people can still smile and greet their customers

I made my reservations online, it was there for me. I’m glad that recently changed & they guarantee a truck for us when we reserve online, before it was different. I was there a bit early, had to wait. There set up is pretty efficient they got all the trucks ready for the new renters. Sadly their customer service could be a lot better, no smiles no good mornings, nothing worth making the extra effort in just being friendly with their customers. As if it cost extra for us to get. I asked a few questions on what I might need. willing to spend extra for material. but it seemed like they didn’t want to be bothered with it at 9am on a Sunday which isn’t that early. I was up since 6am preparing for the day.

I rented 17ft truck for 8hrs move used only 9 miles and some packing supplies, affordable price depending on how many miles u drive also very nice and helpful stuff and excellent service, definitely recommended

2 Weekends in a row I rented a cargo van from here to assist with my local move.
I had nothing but the best service from the front desk folks to the guys outside.
I would highly recommend this branch. And its within easy walking distance to the train.
No problems at all.

I recently came here to rent a truck. I made the reservation online and came in the next day to pick up. I was only going local so I decided to give u Haul a try. I had a very good experience. I picked up my truck and there were no issues picking it up. The truck worked out perfectly. When I went to return the truck and pay, I was quoted the correct mileage and gas. We will see what happens when I look at my credit card statement a few days from now.
Overall, I would rent another uhaul here in the future if I needed one. The people that work here aren’t super friendly. They looked really bored, but they did their job.
They also sell some plastic covers for mattresses, which I needed so that was helpful. I would say the $ 19.95 for 24 hours is a fair price. Then it is $ 1.49 + for each mile you drive.

When I picked up the van the line was super long, but fine. I got the van and rented 2 dollies, when I went outside to give the attendant my paper, he went and got my dollies, carried them to the van, put them in, and explained that I should refill the gas myself because of the cost of penalty + gas.
When I RETURNED my van it was a complete nightmare:
Mind you they are in the business of CUSTOMER SERVICE — obviously I had been moving ALL DAY and am returning the van the next evening — the attendant starts checking the car and gas and asks me to take the dollies out and put them «there» and points. So I do, even though that is his job. He comes over and says no, more it other there, which was literally a few feet over. At this point he could have done it himself, he was standing there next to me, and the dollies are heavy and I am one small girl that obviously had just been moving ALL DAY. I tell him the guy who I got the dollies from brought them to me so I am under the assumption this is you job. And he flips out on me, rips up my return ticket, tells me he won’t help me, says someone else will do it, then goes to the other guy who is helping another customer and just stands around him trying to pretend to be busy. just to make me wait there longer. Then the other guy says, no this guy will help you — meanwhile he told me flat out he will NOT and I have to wait for the other guy. This guy’s name is FELIX and when I told other people about this experience they told me they had issues with this same guy a year ago. WHY DO THEY CONTINUE TO EMPLOY PEOPLE THAT DON’T KNOW HOW TO CONDUCT THEMSELVES IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER WHEN THEY WORK IN CUSTOMER SERVICES? I would NEVER go here again or any other U-​HAUL. I would much rather pay double anywhere else out of principal. TERRIBLE STAFF HERE!

The parking lot attendant, a man from Grenada, was flooring the gas peddle in the small parking lot with the trucks almost flipping them over as he was moving them around. When he brought my truck to us, we thought we were going to get run over or the truck was going to flip over on us or slide into us. It was a terrible experience. I had enough of a project in front of me and that guy only made it more nerve racking. Also, the mileage was completely false and I was charged for at least 4 extra miles than I had driven the Box truck for. ($ 8 rip off.)

I rented a cargo van here. When I picked it up in the morning the person told me to check the gas gauge to confirm it was full. It was on the last line that was there, so I signed the paper. I drove the van 16 miles round trip then returned it to the same location. It took $ 30 worth of gas. It turned out that the last line that I saw the gas gauge was on was the ¾ full line, and the place where the F was was the actual full point, even though there was no line to indicate the gas level could go that far. I tried explaining it to their staff person, Samora Adams, and he started arguing with me, pointing to the contract, asking why I agreed that it was full if it was not full, and screaming at me.
I called the 1 – 800 Uhaul number to complain, and they forwarded my complaint to the location manager, Delia. She said that she would «look into it» and call me back. She never did.
Next time I am going to rent a «Budget» rent a truck or a Ryder truck.

I rented a trailer & thus had to attach it to my SUV. The attendant told me everything was good after I asked him to check the connection. After I arrived at my destination I discovered the ball was loose from the hitch. I mentioned that to the gentleman when I returned the trailer and he promptly replied that that is my responsibility, that’s fine but don’t tell a customer that everything is ok when your responsibilities ended at attaching a trailer to the hitch ball.

The line was really long, the place ridiculously understaffed, the store seemed well supplied but the whole place in general needs a fresh coat of paint and some serious sweeping/​scrubbing. The storage facility isn’t guarded or locked, and half of the spaces are actually above other spaces. Want to hoist a full size solid bed frame eight feet into the air? Not me either. So with the advice of a kick ass employee we went to the Park Slope facility and easily stored our things there. Which brings me to their employee of the month: Anthony. Not only was he professional and polite, he went above and beyond in assisting us with all the funny but typical details in moving a two bedroom apartment. If he hadn’t been there I would have thought U-​Haul had degraded into a typically big box, rude gigantic company. He saved the day. I hope his manager reads this.
Five stars for Anthony; two for New Utrecht U-​Haul.

This may not be clever, but it sums up my experience: U-​haul U-​suck. To give them credit, I suck too for not just hiring the gang of laborers hanging out outside.
After paying the fee for the rental and gas, I was charged 3 weeks later for a parking citation that we had incurred during the rental (but had paid) and slapped with a $ 30 «administrative fee». After calling the main office, I was told to call the equipment recovery department, then told by equipment recovery to fax or email proof that we had paid the ticket. They said it would take 5 – 10 working days. Blegh.
So in short, U-​haul is evil. I don’t quite understand how they can piggyback off an already paid city parking citation – and charge the citation amount and the administrative fee. We already had paid the citation. Bad, bad business.

Maybe it’s because I had such a horrific (okay, aggravating) experience at the 4^th Avenue location (see previous rant), but this place was amazing. It’s a much smaller space, yet they have all the basics. The staff members were incredibly friendly, joking around, and helpful.
I needed book boxes (who knew books took up so much space?), and I refused to go to the 4^th Avenue UHaul again, so I came here. A little out of the way, but absolutely worth it. I was in and out in two minutes. AND the person who took my cash for the boxes offered to carry them out to the car for me. Wow. I even said, «Oh no, I’ll just take six now and six later.» (I had a 1 year old on my hip.) But no, she insisted, and brought them out and thanked me for being a customer. WHAT? Seriously, I felt like they thought I was a secret shopper or something.
Isn’t it horrible when good service becomes a rarity? I’m tempted to go back here just to buy a box once in a while. It is lovely to be treated like a human being in a store.
Also, there’s a good parking lot with easy access from New Utrecht. If you need moving help or a day-​worker, there were at least eight guys hanging out and looking for work. New Utrecht also has a lot of guys who will help you for cash. Treat them well, if you hire them. They get taken advantage of an awful lot.
