I recently rented a locker from Stop & Stor on 63^rd Street in Brooklyn. This was my first experience renting a storage unit. I was concerned after reading the negative reviews and was hesitant in contacting them. I was pleasantly surprised that when I called and spoke with Betty she was friendly and helpful. I requested a 5×7 or 5×8 unit; initially there weren’t any available then Betty placed me on hold, when she got back on the phone she told me there was a 5×8 unit that just became available. I needed to move my items the following day and explained that to Betty; I asked if I made the online reservations if that would hold the unit; she stated it would not reserve the unit however go ahead and reserve it and she will hold it for me on her end. I was quite appreciative. The following day (today) upon my arrival Betty was not there however James (Jimmy) was in the office. He initially stated there weren’t any 5×8 lockers available but when I told him Betty held it for me, he asked me to hold on, and started researching a bit and eventually found it. I was ready to rent the unit immediately but Jimmy explained per policy I had to see the unit first prior to renting it. He then radioed Huang (sp) to show me the unit. Huang was as nice as nice can be. He showed me the unit; I found the facility to be huge, I was concerned about getting loss, and locating the unit without guidance so he took me around quickly and pointed out landmarks near the unit to assist me in the future. We returned to the office and I met with Jimmy once more. He proceeded to process my paperwork and made a few jokes. For those who are seeking someone at the front desk/​in the office who will have a smile plastered on their face, you will be disappointed because that was not the Jimmy I met. I met the Jimmy who had a wonderful dry sense of humor (he made a few comments about the Mary Tyler Moore show, then joked if I didn’t know who that was he didn’t want to know because that was dating his age), was professional, and got the job done… he is very much old school which I thought was great! If you are looking for a typist and a rush job, again you won’t appreciate Jimmy; he is not a speed typist, he took his time in entering and reviewing my information to ensure it was accurately entered in the system. Prior to my signing any of the documents he reviewed and explained everything that was in the forms… bullet point by bullet point. I did not ask but I assumed he was detailed in explaining the rules and regulations due to negative experiences they may have had in the past when renting units. While I was meeting with Jimmy, Betty arrived and she was a pleasure. I introduced myself and thanked her for holding the unit for me. We chatted about NY, the weather, the phone her son purchased for her, etc. We talked while Jimmy focused on processing my paperwork. At the end I thanked them both. Based on my personal experience I do not know why they received negative comments about their customer service skills. I found them helpful and engaging. I did not meet with the African employee mentioned in a previous review (Betty is Latina, Huang is Asian, and Jimmy is Caucasian). I will say the folks I met with were personable. The positives definitely outweighed the negatives.
As for the actual storage unit and facility itself; it is clean and appeared to be well-​maintained. There are cameras in the office. Since this is my first experience there is not anything I can compare it to. I am giving 4 stars overall only because the hours of operation are limited. The earliest they open is 8 AM and they only stay open late on Thursdays (9 PM). I wish there was a way to access the unit before (maybe at 6 AM) and after business hours (maybe at 9 PM) on the weekdays. If this were to change my rating would be 5 stars.
My rating is based on yesterday’s conversation with Betty and today’s experience. If anything changes during my future visits to the unit I will update my review.

I’m surprise how disrespectful and rude people can be. The African employee at the front desk is rude, disrespectful, obnoxious and acts like he is the owner of the establishment. He treats customer with the most unprofessionalism service that honestly turn customers away. I was planning on renting two big units but due to his professional service I rather take it further and give them my money. This particular person should be reconsider as an employee of this place, HE IS DRIVING CUSTOMERS AWAY…

I read the other reviews and I fail to understand how they come up with these conclusions. I’ve been a customer there for a little over 3 years and I have received nothing but phenomenal service. I’ve been to other storage facilities and nothing can compare to this one. The fact that they have a drive in building and you don’t have to wait for parking or a loading dock is great, it’s a real life saver. For its size it is unbelievably clean. Again I have nothing but positive things to say. The staff not only offers great customer service but are very friendly and you can really have a conversation with them. It’s little things like that which make a big difference. I’d recommend this place to anyone.

Poor service. I would give them 0 stars if I could. I chose to store things today since it was the only day they were open «late night.»
The site says the office closes 30mins prior (so 8:30) I showed up at 7:40, by the time they got to me it was about 7:47 and she tells me I cannot move things in and they’re closing. I asked, «Don’t you close at 9pm today?» The lazy white haired woman tells me «Honey I’ve been working for 15 hours, I gotta go home.»
What do I care if you worked 15 hours? The door says you close at 9pm «Store at your convenience» yet it’s not even 8pm and you refuse service.
Very rude, does not give a care in the world. Terrible place, I would not recommend.

DON’T STORE UR STUFF HERE. Stuff here are very unfriendly! The Spanish lady who looks like the manager has this «never ask for help» face all the time. The white old guy was no better at all, always shouting at you «don’t put things here» or «don’t leave ur things there». The only helpful one was the cleaning Chinese guy. They never hold the door no matter what you are carrying. They don’t help to call a taxi and there is no way you can find a taxi passing by. I have to walk across the street and ask for help from a furniture warehouse running by a Chinese, since I don’t know any number and neither do I have a cell phone with me. They intend to not put any garbage bin and you need to take all the empty boxes or used tapes with u. I’m only 5’3″ tall and less than 110 lbs in weight. I can’t carry everything with me all the time. I put the boxes out side of the office and walked across the street for help in calling a taxi. The guy ran out immediately and shouting at me that I must take all those boxes with me. Be realistic! Can you do that? Neither can I! I don’t expect them to be super helpful, but at least you should have basic sympathy to others!

I neigther love nor hate this place. Their hours are a bit limited especially on the weekdays and they’re very strict about you entering before a certain time. They certainly won’t bend the rules EVER. The front desk staff tends to be rude and in my experience never does any more then they have to. If they’re open till 6 and the office closes at 5:30 and you have a question or an issue at 5:31 they probably won’t bother to help you at that point because their work day has ended. Nevertheless, its the closest option to my house and I neigther have the choice nor the desire to seek out more distant self storage facilities.
