Toddler Time With Mary Jo

While visiting family in Brooklyn (and Big Love working in Manhattan for a long weekend) we decided to head over to Lark Café for a latte and Toddler Time with Mary Jo so Mc could let off some steam. The room was sparse but quickly filled up with about 20+ kiddos. It got warm fast, thank goodness it’s so cold out today. Mary Jo came in full of energy and excitement, saying hello so a few families and kids by name. It was apparent this is a popular event for Lark and the neighborhood. Mary Jo had preformed at my sons first birthday so I knew of her talent but wasn’t quite sure what to expect. She started off with a «Hello, Hello» song incorporating each child’s name into the song. Most children were bouncing around while the rest lit up as their names were called out in a chorus. Adorable. My kiddo couldn’t stop looking around in awe at strangers singing his name.
There were several songs Mary Jo played with her guitar and then more songs with props (mini moroccos and brightly colored scarves). Every child was engaged and smiling. I wish there were more of this kind if entertainment where we live.
Mary Jo was exuberant, cheerful and amazingly quick witted in her performance. There were plenty of subtle jokes aimed for adults that kept the whole room laughing. She didn’t miss a beat! And I thought my toddler had energy. This woman bounces around the room singing beautifully at the same time. It really was a delightful experience. Mc had a blast and I was able to sip my latte with our newest addition asleep on my chest.
Bonus: it was $ 5 a child. That’s insanely cheap, and super budget friendly. Especially for the kickass time you’ll have with your kiddos. We’re here for a few more days and will definitely catch another performance if possible.
