The HomeSpa

This review is for their website, which sucks. Who makes you become a member and upload a PICTURE just to see the services and pricing they offer. I don’t even live in Brooklyn — I wanted to buy my friend a gift certificate, but not anymore.

This is a sweet place. Mellow music, ambiance. The owner is the sweetest woman. The massage therapist I had was great (and he was cute, with a mohawk! Bonus!) and everyone was really nice. The owner actually gave me a rundown of frugal skin care for my skin type, which was awesome. I hope to return soon.

I live in the hood so I gave this place a few tries.
First I have to say I hate the look of the place from the outside… yech!
I came before and after the renovations. Before it was literally gross and after, well, inside looks much better, but I am not impressed with the owner, the product line and the worst is I heard the therapists tell me how little she pays them. That is so not cool, pay your therapists what they r worth, now I have to be worried about tipping more than 20% because I feel bad for them? WTF? and before the renov i thought it was heinous that she kept her dog there! a dog in a spa? whatever, the only reason why they have business sis that the area is lacking a good spa, its the only full service spa around for a WHILE, so i guess ple frequent it.

I went here as part of a LivingSocial deal… around $ 100 total (not inc. tip) for an hour and 15 minute facial and an hour and 15 minute massage. I was skeptical about such a long facial, but it absolutely flew by (I had Valerie, who was very sweet). Equally skeptical about the fact that the massage was Swedish-​style (last Swedish massage I had was weak), but Laura was awesome and my eyes were literally crossed through half of it. I had filled out a questionnaire and specified that I like it very hard, so no doubt she’d adjust to your preference.
No frills, but clean and professional. I will definitely go back.

The HomeSpa is a very tiny, cozy & incense filled place. Maybe a bit too much incense but, ok. The owner sat behind the front desk when I entered having a fascinating conversation with soomeone about a relative’s seemingly ill adivsed trip to a non Western country. I was hoping to relax as soon as I entered but was entertained by the convo.
When she was done with ehr convo she greeted me sweetly & proceeded to have a very long convo with me about my work. It was fascinating but not relaxing.
When my therapist came to get me I appreciated the décor of the place which was a soothing fusion of Eastern /​Western styles. At the front of the spa, non spa music was playing (read: lyrics, lots of instruments, fast rythm, etc as opposed to quiet soft, flute or similar music) & I expected once the therapist closed the door she would turn on more soothing music.
Nope. After I laid down on the table it sounded as if the therapist left the door open so that the front spa music could be heard in the room. What, there are no outlets in the room to play something soothing?
Speaking as a former massage therapist, I can say with complete expertise that my session was just ok. The therapist was nice enough but I know the difference between an expertly given massage, strokes, transitions, focus on tight muscles, etc & when that’s not happening. It didn’t happen.
I was pretty disappointed given how much I was in need of a soothing massage. I believe in tips so I still gave a decent one & when I left the owner was in a deep long conversation with another client.
I thought of giving this place another chance but I’d rather find a truly relaxing spa with expert therapists.
PS, I gave 2 stars because my experience wasn’t outrageously horrible. I’ve just had muuuuch better.

As someone who has tried many of the so-​called top spas in Manhattan, I was pleased to find this little spa where I felt right at home upon entering. I got a great massage. The atmosphere is very cozy and free of glitz and glam. Super sweet and knowledgeable owner and aestheticians who know what they’re doing.
Also, there’s no sales pressure whatsoever which is something that usually detracts from even the best services. When I went to pay, the owner informed me that it was customer appreciation week and she proceeded to take 20% off of my bill.
Will definitely return and give HomeSpa my stressed out business, hands down beats the Blisses and expensive spas of the city.

The Home Spa is like a home away from home for me. What it lacks in fancy amenities, it makes up for in warm and cozy energy. I’ve been getting facials and eyebrow sculpting from Maria for over 6 years, and she is hands down The BEST! I always leave looking beautiful, and feeling super relaxed, and Debbie the owner is the in-​house health and wellness guru.

I love Home Spa. I’ve been going there pretty much since the place opened in 1998. In fact, it was years before I went to another spa to get a treatment. So, imagine my surprise when these other spas tried to sell me products!!! While I am trying to relax??? Whaaat?
And that is one of my favorite things about Home Spa: You go there and get your treatment without some esthetician pushing products on you while you are waiting for your mask to harden.
In addition, they don’t scrimp on time, you are in that treatment room an ample amount of time. Katy is my absolute favorite for a facial and, like another reviewer said, I LOVE her accent. Just to hear her say «dahling» is worth the cost of admission.
Deb, the owner, is a trip and also one of the nicest, most generous people you want to know, not to mention funny and knowledgeable. Yes, the waiting area may be a bit cramped and not all zen relaxation, but because they are so friendly there it just doesn’t seem to matter.
Years later, my aunt who got a facial there, while visiting me, still says that she got the best facial ever at Home Spa.

Great staff and a soothing atmosphere make up for a less than intimate waiting area. I was hoping for a cozy chair and some chamomile tea; instead I got a seat in front of the main desk right by the front door and a cup of water. The robe and slippers, however, were a welcome touch, and I love the little candlelit hallway that leads to the treatment rooms.
Despite the lack of a relaxation lounge, I managed to unwind as Katy and Carlos gave me a wonderfully refreshing treatment facial and a soothing prenatal massage, respectively. Next time I need a little pick-​me-​up, I’ll certainly consider the HomeSpa.
Know before you go: tips are cash only

The massages and reflexology are reasonably priced and they take their time. The bikini waxes are humane ;) and professional. Aromatherapy and funky, calm music are always there. The people who work here will really try to make sure you get what you want. They also seem to really buy into the beliefs of the spa.
The drawbacks are a cramped waiting area and no «relaxation area» for before/​after the massage/​treatment. It’s worth it for the lack of attitude and down-​to-​earth approach here.
