Yendys holds the distinction of being one of Brooklyn’s true pioneers of natural hair care and the natural hair care product industry for more than two decades now. Yendys has studied the knowledge and practices of many ancient cultures. She shares the tools and wisdom for spiritual growth, natural healing and holistic beautification through her work. The Cowrie Shell Center is definitely one of Brooklyn’s own ‘go to spots’ for all of your natural hair care and wellness needs. History

Established in 1991.

At age 18, Yendys enrolled in Cosmetology School and received a degree in Cosmetology, Make-​up Artistry, and Hair Styling. Yendys developed relationships with clients she met during her training and internships, which led to a very strong and loyal following. After receiving mentor-​ship in two prominent Brooklyn hair care salons under the tutelage of very inspirational women, Yendys was ready and charged to open her own establishment. Yendys Is A Khametic Priestess and Unique Style Consultant

Yendys has been on her path as a Khametic Priestess for many years. A priestess is a woman who officiates in sacred rites. She serves the spiritual needs of the community by using her knowledge and intuition of the ancient ways, she seeks guidance from within, trusts her inner voice, is open to dreams and the imagination, is aware of the larger reality. She Believes in seeing the potential as well as understanding the possibilities.

Business Owner

Born in Barbados, West Indies; Yendys Neferatum was 15 years old when she fell in love with caring for hair. She spent her teenage years tending to her own hair, then caring for her younger siblings hair as well. She would braid her sister’s hair and utilized the lost art of cutting her younger brother’s hair with a pair of scissors and a comb, in the same manner in which she’d witnessed her father do yearly for the school aged boys in the area…(a technique which he learned from his father). She later earned money by braiding, weaving, and working part-​time in a local neighborhood salon applying the very popular chemical processing style, known as the Jheri Curl back in the late-80’s. As Yendys’ natural hair clientele grew, she witnessed a greater service that needed to be filled. Totally unhappy with the results of using commercial hair care products on her client’s hair, Yendys embarked on a journey of plant-​based product research and development.
