I am not handy and hardware stores give me anxiety! The sympathetic and knowledgable sales staff here translated my inarticulate descriptions of what I was trying to do into helpful and reasonably-priced recommendations. I’ll go back here even though I live a mile away.

Nice hardware store with excellent selection of most products that you need from a hardware store. It’s a bit pricier than your Lowes or Home Depot, but located in the heart of Park Slope. There’s a nice gardening section in the back of you’re looking for that.

Made the poor mistake of installing IKEA furniture with a Phillips head screwdriver, instead of the Pozidriv head that’s supposed to not strip the heads. Needless to say, I’ve been sleeping on half assembled IKEA furniture and came to this hardware store hoping to either 1. Get similar screws or 2. The proper head to finish drilling my stripped screws. The staff were really helpful and managed to provide me with a good solution. Really happy with their service and knowledge! :)

I wish Tarzian wasn’t so far away from my apartment, because it’s one hell of a hardware store. They carry just about everything, including about 30 different types of wall hooks. I stopped by because I needed some wood for shelving, and they had a bunch of different sizes, both finished and unfinished. Prices were reasonable, and they charge $ 2 to cut the wood for you, which honestly, is worth it for the convenience. While I waited for one of the guys to cut my wood, I checked out all the aisles, amazed by how many specialty items they had in stock. Then, when it came time to pay, turns out there’s a whole other side of the store! This side dealt mostly with houseware and non-DIY wares, like garbage cans and cleaning supplies. Pleasant customer service all around, and a great store to have in the neighborhood.

If I excluded getting new keys, this would be a 5-star review, however, after getting 6 keys made and only 2 of them working, I have to review poorly. Go here for anything you need, as the customer service is excellent and they have everything and anything you need. If you need keys cut however, go across the street, just down 2nd street on the left. Not only did my keys not work — upon closer inspection, none of them looked the same at all.

Love this store. They usually have what we need and the staff is always eager to help. The prices are pretty good too – in line with the area.

This is my go-to hardware store. Even though they don’t always have exactly what I’m looking for, they are very honest about it. The staff is always super attentive and helpful.

Yesterday I went to Tarzian to purchase a few sample paints. When I arrived home, one was not the color I requested, which was massively inconvenient because of my time crunch. I tried calling the store, but they had already closed and their voicemail was full, so I reached out via the email I found online. Within 15 minutes I received a response from the manager of the store and the person who helped me saying they could mix it up and deliver it to me in a half hour, which they actually managed to do in even less time. That is just amazing customer service! Support Tarzian, support your local hardware store and screw the big chains — you’ll never get this kind of treatment and understanding elsewhere. Nice work, Tarzian ;)

This is my regular for key cuts, and it’s always been reliable in that respect, but for this review I wanted to tell you about a customer service experience that really stood out in my mind. So I was having a problem with reeeally slow bathroom drains, sink and shower both. Horrible. I had tried Drano to no avail. I felt that it was time to call in the big guns on this intractable problem. Luckily, my mom was visiting and she’s a long-time house reno-er and do-it-yourselfer and so we decided to team up and go into battle with these incorrigible drains. Our first stop was Tarzian for supplies, and I mean we got everything, snakes, funnels, the full artillery. It was ON, people. Nothing would stop us. However, when we were there, a sales associate made a suggestion that changed the course of this narrative, though I didn’t know it at the time. He said we should buy a bottle of Pequa, which is the contractor’s choice for clearing drains. But I’ve never heard of this Pequa stuff… could it really be all that different than Drano? Mom and I went home, rolled up our sleeves, and tried the amateur snake we purchased and were met with failure. Finally, I thought, let’s give this humble Pequa a try. Amazingly it cleared the drain of what must have been 8 – 25 years of collected hair in a snap. I didn’t even buy the maximum strength Pequa it was just the reg strength. Now a year later all is still running 100% fine. So while this knowledgable salesperson killed the empowering dream of the mother-daughter duo slaying the clogged drains, he did really help us solve the problem, and for that I am grateful. Also the advice is great for anyone — Pequa spends nothing on marketing but is a clearly superior product for this type of problem. Pick it up at Tarzian next time you are there.

Came in to get some duplicate keys made. I was helped by Rich, who was an absolute sweetheart. Will definitely come back here again.

This is the best hardware store I’ve ever been to in the city. The staff is super helpful and will walk you to whatever you are searching for. They are friendly and knowledgable and the store has a big inventory.

Tarzian is a very solid, go-to hardware store in an area that increasingly caters to a crowd that spends $ 50 per hour on dog walkers. That said, I’m still inclined to say it’s overpriced, but it’s also Park Slope. They’re charging what the market will bear, and a tenement in that neighborhood will go for $ 2500 per month. Staff is helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. To their credit, when I posted a critical review previously, they responded. You are almost certain to find what you will need for any modest job around the home and even many things needed for more complicated stuff. All the bases are covered — painting, plumbing and electrical, basic woodwork, gardening, storage and cleaning, tools, lighting, etc.

i normally buy home improvement/upkeep items on amazon or save these purchases for a trip to a big box store. when the little projects that are«ok for now» start accumulating and then you view them through the lens of a bad day, it is unfathomable how you can go on one more day with your house in shambles. tarzian comes to the rescue with its reasonably priced paper towels, brooms, dustpans, light bulbs, switchplates, etc.

Excellent selection from inventory in stock, reasonable prices for the expensive location, knowledgeable staff, AND the same name, Tarzian, on the Housewares store across the street.

Can’t say too much, since I haven’t shopped there since 1972. Back then I was renovating my place on 4th St in lieu of some rent. I loved the store. If you want to see what it was like then, get a copy of «The Landlord» starring Beau Bridges, Diana Sands, Lee Grant, Pearl Bailey, and Louis Gossett, Jr. Cool!

Whenever I go in here, I have a small home improvement project in mind. Usually, I need some instruction and specific knowledge, and the guys here always are friendly and have a good answer for me. One time, I had turned all the lights off by messing with the power in the basement, and they were able to trouble shoot with me to figure out what had been the problem. I didn’t have to call an electrician thanks to them! So yes, I definitely recommend this store for all your hardware needs. Good prices too.
