When James Freeman, a former signed artist and Brooklyn bar manager met designer — restaurateur Matthew Maddy the result was ‘Sweet Science’, a concept conceived over a beer.

James spent months scouring sites around Williamsburg to find exactly the right location to make their Sweet Science dream come true.

Discovering 135 Graham Avenue, he knew he’d found the perfect venue, excitedly calling down Maddy to check out the old furniture store, which stood below a three-​story-​tall mural of a boxer clutching his punching bag.

«It was a mess, there was so much work needed to convert what was basically a shell» said James, who’s love of Biggie and the ‘sweet science of bruising”, aka boxing were the sources of inspiration behind this venue’s vintage yet sleek décor.
