Superior J&J

A great spot for a quick coffee, a beer run or a delicious meal — breakfast sandwiches are great, iced coffees are delicious and the service couldn’t be better. Always friendly and a true neighborhood spot where you feel like a local. Try the grape-​leaves or any of the middle eastern fresh food of the day. John and the entire family are the reason I will always go out of my way to be a patron here!

This corner deli is so much more! The staff is friendly and helpful, known around the neighborhood. They are Arabic guys so they offer a menu of Middle Eastern food, delicious handmade items you cannot get at a regular basic deli. They are always striving to give you good service and to find out what you want to buy so they can stock it. They are so nice here! Stop in and say hi to the guys behind the counter and you will see what I mean!

All around awesome spot. John and the fam are really friendly and super helpful (once even offering to help me patch up my car window after it had been broken in to) and in the individualized, personal experience, represent much of what the «Brooklyn brand» has come to mean. Oh yeah, the Mediterranean chicken and rice is fantastic, as is the falafel. Solid beer selection too.

I live around the corner and I come here all the time, usually just to pick up the basics off the shelves. Since I live so close and I prefer to cook I never really get the prepared foods but I’ve been meaning to try the falafel. I’m not expecting gourmet, but I bet they do a solid job.
What keeps me coming back though, is the staff. Obviously I don’t have far to walk but I always choose these guys over their neighbors. It’s a family business, with three generations working behind the counter and they’re all helpful and engaging in their own ways.
They may not have the same hipster vibe as some other businesses in the area (many of which, just to be clear, I happily patronize) but if you’re looking to support a local, family-​owned business and shoot the shit while you’re at it, look no further.

These guys are fantastic. Love the sandwiches, love the service. I’m been buying the mama’s falafel sandwich this week, all week. Pretty great. I hope they continue to make middle eastern food.

The J & J Food Market (aka The Superior Deli) is a true old-​school Fort Greene institution. While much of the neighborhood has changed, The J&J has retained its original character. Located above the C train stop at Lafayette and serving a wide selection of craft-​beer, soda, ice-​cream, and basic staples, the J&J is a classic Brooklyn bodega. John, Jack, and their sons serve up made-​to-​order coffees, egg-​on-​roll sandwiches, and neighborhood gossip. In the afternoons and evenings they attract a crowd of regulars with their delicious, homemade, middle-​eastern and latin-​style treats. These are so yummy they tend to sell out fast though they are not always on display. So if it’s your first time, don’t be afraid to ask for their recommendation. You won’t regret it, and neither will your wallet. Grab something tasty, something fizzy, a paper, maybe a snack for your kids, and head to the leafy park across the street to chill. You’ll have friendly service with a smile, and you’ll be keeping it real.

This local deli has been a favorite of mine for over a decade. They have a great craft beer selection, a really friendly staff, and delicious sandwiches as well. When I first moved to the neighborhood they made me feel very welcome, and have extended courteous service to me ever since. Props.

I live a few blocks from this corner bodega. It is family-​run by a father and his two sons. And although in New York these are a dime a dozen, I like this one because they are friendly and like to strike up a coversation. And sometimes that is really what you need.
One morning, I was feeling particularly down and needed a fix. I trotted over to the bodega to get my fix and the son’s owner chatted me up. He was really nice and even offered me a nice hot cup of coffee, on the house. I was speechless. He didn’t know it, but he brightened my day.
Sometimes it is the small things in life that matter. And even though there is another bodega (more up-​scale) next door, J and J now has my loyalty.
Thanks for making my day. That personal touch is priceless.
