The lock up policy on shrimp as if they are diamonds is ridiculous and breeds contemp from the sullen manager who acts as if he has better things to do than ensuring customer service by having readily available products.

Amazing service each and every time we go here. This is our go-​to market for most, if not all, our needs. The manager, Timothy, goes above and beyond to help. Including throwing on an apron and personally cutting some deli meat for us when no one else was available. Would definitely recommend coming here!

I liked this place! It reminded me of a suburban grocery store due to its large size, stock, and layout. I was pleasantly surprised to find they carry a large selection of Tofurkey products, which I can normally only find at Whole Foods Gowanus.

Morons. They have children and incompetents running the delivery service. This is NOT Fresh Direct. They don’t read directions and they are very unprofessional.

Don’t fall for the sale on Oxtails they are advertising this week. When you buy the 15 lb box for $ 44.70 (supposed to be $ 2.98 per lb.) And you have them cut off the fat and chop them up you end up with under 9 lbs which at 2.98 per lb would only be $ 26.92. NOT GOOD FOODTOWN!!! What a rip off.
Ok so I returned to Foodtown and saw
George, one of the managers, I complained and he redeemed FT by giving me an additional large package of Oxtails as a supplement to the original purchase. Good Job George!!!

I need a bathroom as do many of the seniors. You made some super changes but I need a bathroom. Spoke to one of the owners many years ago and he informed me that it would require lots of plumbing which I know but, I need a bathroom. Don’t tell me about using restoration’s bathroom.
Now as for the supermarket itself it has changed drastically for the better. It is cleaner, a greater variety of items, fresh vegetables, meat and the addition oft the fresh fish is really welcomed. Never had a problem with the staff. I enjoy the younger staff because they always tell me how to use my points.
Prices could still use some adjusting.

I really like super food town. Olives are great. They have organic options. Prices are decent. It’s a pleasure to shop there.

This place is incredibly disgusting. The entire establishment reeks of cat food. The odor hits you especially hard when you enter, in the fruit section of all places. You eventually get used to it but it’s still distinctly there.
It’s in terrible disrepair, with scuffs on almost every floor. It looks like it hasn’t been updated since the 90s, and that’s probably the case.
As of July 2015 they look to be doing upgrades to some walls.
Prices are average. Frustratingly, not be early lower than in the rest of the city, despite this being the cheapest neighborhood close to Manhattan.
I give this an extra star because the guy who bagged my groceries was especially nice, letting me know the date when I filled out a form and thanking me for signing up for their club card. He sang along to one of the intercom songs and generally had a good humor about him. In New York this is truly a remarkable level of service!

I gotta say this as a native Brooklynite; I’m not a fan of gentrification, but when it suits my needs, I’m ashamed to say, «f*ck it, can’t beat em’, join em.»
Back in the day this spot was a glorified Associated or Bravo bed-​stuy hood supermarket.
The small cut above your average sub-​par supermarket. Prices were good, selection slightly better.
NOW?
Now this supermarket is the bees knees. Organic produce, vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options? I’ve never been in a supermarket this gluten free friendly. Recently on a gluten-​free diet to due agonizing pain that comes with wheat products I was suffering in despair about what would I eat locally and at home. All my favorite stuff got wheat! I walked through the aisles and got emotional. SO MANY OPTIONS!
Yo, thank you, Foodtown. Crisis averted. Even though it took non-​brown folks crowding the neighborhood clamoring for special groceries to get your shit together, it’s together.

It’s getting better! After living in BedStuy for 4 years, I’ve tried to avoid this place even though it’s just a block away. Service is usually the level of a Kmart check out with many angry workers who simply do NOT like anyone but the long time locals. BUT IT IS getting better. In the past 6 months, I have noticed a drastic effort for friendlier workers, renovations and more organic food. The manager has always been pleasant! Prices are decent but I still make my weekly trips to Trader Joe’s. I will NOT however, ever buy meats here other than deli meats. Everything else is up for grabs — produce and dry goods (eggs are VERY pricey and don’t know why!). It’s worth checking out or a quick fix.

When it comes to everyday groceries, this is where I come. Its convenient in that its 1 block from the Kingston-​Throop C train stop, and they have a large selection, plus a wonderfully helpful staff. I’m also consistently surprised with the number of vegetarian, vegan, and organic options available — a big bonus & saves a trip to Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s. Even more important, their prices are reasons for the NYC area and I never feel like I’m going broke just to buy my weekly groceries.

No lie, this store is a ghetto s**thole, but it’s better than the other s**tholes in Bedstuy. Don’t bother shopping there for things on sale. Whatever is in the sale ad, they will be out of… ALWAYS. Tried their online shopping. They substituted half the items in my order without notifying me and were 2 hours late on the delivery time. Then they had the nerve to send a follow up survey to see how I liked the delivery service?!? Now for the waiting. Oh yes, there are long lines in New York, I know this. However, the cashiers are unbearably slow, full of «I hate the world» attitude and though there are several lanes, there is generally only 2 – 3 cashiers at MOST. I often go Sunday mornings to avoid the crowd and am met by yes…1 cashier. There is still a line at 7:30 in the freakin’ morning!

This is the main supermarket in the community. I lived in bk since this location was the First 24 hr Pathmark years ago. Foodtown stepped up to the plate & have surpassed it. In a collaborative partnership effort with a cbo they offer monthly store tours which focus on healthy food choices. I put some suggestions for items for the store to carry. Within 2 months 2 out of 3 of my requested items were available on the shelves! I understood why they did not get the 3 item Good choices of organic jtems Since I am a member of PSFC this is my 2^nd shopping place or alternative for a quick item pick up The «green stamps» gets u free items which helps when funds are low I shop off hours to avoid crowds & lines. Open early close late good variety clean

As a recent transplant from the suburbs of Atlanta, I’m still getting used to the idea of the tiny grocery story. Sometimes good, but often bad, because I like having a range of products to choose from. This is a great option if you are like me — want a range of foods, better than average prices, and competent staff. I’ll be a frequent shopper.

Excellent local grocery store with a huge selection of natural and vegan foods at average prices. My only complaint is that their selection of bread leaves much to be desired. We live in New York City. Is fresh bread too much to ask for? Bread Alone?

One of the better grocery stores I’ve lived near and regularly visit. Along with being open both very early and late, you have the choice of picking both healthy (produce, organic, etc.), guilty pleasures (candy, soda, chips), and things in between. If you go late in the evening, the regular entrance could be locked so you have to enter through the exit. Get a free membership to earn points to get free items such as eggs or milk after a certain amount.
The lines can get long, but only at obvious times (after work on a weekday, on weekends). Workers there have been helpful, asking me if I need help (probably because I have resting confused face).

I just luuuuurv errything about this grocery store. As a suburban girl at heart, I often miss large stores with wide aisles. Boop! Foodtown has it.
The prices are reasonable and if you sign up for a membership card you often get some free goods. I can’t wait to get my free eggs.

Gentrification is a funny thing. It spreads through a neighborhood like a clever joke, making laugh-​out-​loud changes for the «better» to this local supermarket. A sushi corner here, some «organic» produce there – often mixed in with the conventional for clarity – and a special all natural, and gluten-​free snack section. As much as I am an advocate for healthy eating, what am I supposed to do with a flour-​less, eggless, butter-​less, sugarless cookie? Not have any late-​night snack fun, that’s what.
Noticing that the changes haven’t reached every area of this store, makes me chuckle even more. So while the getting-​smaller-​every-​day sushi nook may be evidence that a change is happening, or simply that it is 2013 in NYC and Bed-​Stuy is actually part of NYC, a good number of the cashiers still have the same It’s-not-my fault-this-line-is-so-slow-it’s-yours perspective, and hairstyles that reflect the 1990s. Think: mean and not cute.
Speaking of the beloved 90s, I wonder about the shelf life of certain products. I’ve had a few «this expiration date was yesterday» times and a special «Ewwww, What is that at the top of that jar I just opened» moment. And in the produce section, a few browning broccoli sprouts and yellowing collard greens prove that Superfoodtown is in need of some more gentrification, or at least real care from management to put out good products for long-​time customers like me.
All that being said there are the freshly baked «reasons» I keep coming here. Quite honestly the smell of just out of the oven bread on Saturday mornings is a major one. Another is I don’t trust buying meat, eggs, or dairy from anywhere else in the area. Yet another is I love to laugh at all of the innocent shenanigans that go on here, gentrified-​induced and otherwise.

Abysmal. The store is dirty & completely overpriced. The cashiers are unfriendly. Everyone that works here looks like they just found out their mother died.
If I had easier access to *literally* any other store in the world, I wouldn’t go here.

The beat grocery store in the neighborhood. a few if their items are slightly pricier than the smaller mom and pop stores such as lemons. Their lemons are expensive as crap. Very wide assortment if products though. You can pretty much find everything you need here, even some specialty items. Definitely take advantage of the Greenpoints though. We just great our pancake syrup and Goya products for free as a result.
The only downfalls are sometimes the prices are higher than Pathmark and they almost always have long lines. The staff isn’t the friendliest either.
