The massage went very well. I felt much less tension and tightness in my upper back and shoulders. I didn’t know how tight and tense those areas were until I had someone rubbing the knots out. Mimi definitely worked out a lot of the problem areas. Whenever I felt like she was being a little too rough, I would let her know and she would ease up.
The «spa» is pretty much small sections separated by blankets. I wouldn’t come here expecting a grandeur spa experience nor would I come here to get anything outside of a massage. I got exactly what I came for at a price that I could afford and left very satisfied.
The prices for their services/​time is definitely worth a try.

Do not be scared of the sketchy entrance. Don’t act like you wouldn’t be because chances are you have passed this place a million times without a second thought.
It’s a shame too because it had Amazing service and super hospitable staff. The prices are unbeatable for 50 $ for 60 min.
Worth it. I promise.

Booked two 30-​minute massages here as a surprise for the boyfriend on Sunday evening. It was very quiet, and the second we arrived they were ready for us. The staff is very kind, but not terribly communicative. They ushered the two of us into the «rooms» (which, as stated in many reviews, are only divided by curtains) and then left. Neither of us had ever gotten a massage before, so there was an awkward lull wherein we were unsure of whether we were to strip down right then or not. Eventually, we figured it out (thank goodness…). My masseuse asked if we wanted a couple’s massage, which basically meant that she opened the curtain between our rooms. But since we were facedown on tables the entire time, I guess it wasn’t terribly necessary! We were the only two people in there for a while, until a rather chatty man came in. If you talk in anything above a whisper, everyone will hear, but I was on my way to getting blissed out, so I couldn’t really be bothered to care.
Now for the massage. MAN. For my first massage, this was pretty intense. My masseuse managed to hone in on my crazy tense shoulder/​neck area and knead out some pretty intense knots. She began by rubbing out some tension through a towel, then going to work on my bare back and arms. Yes, it was painful. I was pretty much gritting my teeth into the table. But holy hell did it work wonders. She also did some great tension-​releasing exercises on my fingers and hands, where I didn’t even realize I was keeping tension. She was also able to spend a bit of time working on my butt muscles (through the towel) which was fantastic — very therapeutic.
One of the best things was that when the half hour was up (it really felt like longer!) the masseuse gently asked me if I’d like to go for longer, as my boyfriend’s massage wasn’t quite complete. I let her know that the 30 minutes was enough, but she still did some minor work on my hands and arms while she waited for the other masseuse to finish. It was really nice of her not to just leave me hanging out there (I’ve heard from friends who have gone to other spas that some masseuses will just drop whatever they’re doing the second the time is up. The masseuses here were very good at following through.) They finished with hot towels (which I could have kept on forever!) and then let us get dressed and go on our way. Massages were $ 26 each, at came out to about $ 55 for the two of them together once they were on my card. We had to tip in cash separately, but otherwise there were no hassles.
While I don’t have anything else to compare it to, I’d say this was a solid massage. Great price, great massage. You can’t expect the absolute royal pampering treatment here, but they do what they do very well — making you feel better. I will definitely be back so that I can fill up my little punch card (buy 10, get one free!)

Clean and professional. Checking in about level of pressure. Very relaxing. For an inexpensive massage this is a decent bet. I have had different people and each one has been very relaxing.

a few days ago I came here and my life was saved! the masseuse knew exactly what she was doing, and all the pain/​tension in my neck was dissolved. this is the second time I’ve been there, and both times I have been very pleased. highly recommended!

Nice joint for my jet lag. The masseuse was super nice, and felt totally relaxed afterwards! Best value for the buck. totally worth it!

I have been here three times, and feel that is enough of an experience to say, I don’t recommend it. Varying levels of professionalism, no one there speaks enough English to be able to communicate effectively, and all three times, I can’t say I walked out feeling like it was a good massage. They were all mediocre massages, in different ways. Most recently got an upper body massage with the male masseuse there, and it was creepy. I will leave it at that.

This is the best massage I’ve ever had! It’s surprising that the massager there knew which parts of my body was in pain. My neck and shoulder was killing me because of the long time seating in front of computer all day. I felt much more released after the massage!

This is an outstanding cheap massage. 50 dollars for an hour long, amazing massage. Like the reviews say below — you won’t get your own room (curtains serve as dividers), but it really doesn’t matter. The place is clean — not a lot of light — but they have relaxing music and the staff is very kind. I’ll definitely be back.

About 90% of the time this is a really good Tui Na chinese massage (I would recommend Ci Ci). The other 10% you get a masseuse who is mediocre. This is much better than average for cheap massage places.
Don’t let the name fool you: this is not a spa. You don’t come here for the full pampering treatment with essential oils and all that. You come here for a cheap therapeutic full body beat down. You will be able to hear the person next to you through the cloth room dividers. The masseuses will talk to each other during the massage, and sometimes (but not often) may take phone calls.

Cici was amazing.
So far, this is the best cheap massage I’ve ever received. Cici alone beats Graceful Services!

This is great, cheap massage. The staff are super nice and accomodating, and the price is definitely right at $ 48 for an hour. If you like deep tissue and harder massages, this is the place for you.
You don’t get your own room, but I have never really been bothered by just having the curtains.
It’s definitely not the place to go if you are looking for that full day spa experience, but its a lovely little place to get the kinks out.

First timer at this joint. Based on other reviews I assume my experience was significantly better than some because I was lucky enough to get one of the better masseuses (whose name I should’ve gotten… dammit!)
So it’s 9pm after a long day, my back’s hurting like hell, my wallet is looking particularly emaciated, and I had recently moved out of Chinatown (haven of affordable tui na massages from 10am-​10pm) and into Park Slope. FML, I thought. But Unilocal comes to the rescue and I shamelessly search for a massage place in the area with a price range of «$».
This place came up, and I made a last minute appointment. Hence I had expected to be given rushed and less than stellar service (I came in at 9:30 and they close at 10). However I was pleasantly surprised; it didn’t feel rushed at all, in fact I have a hunch that I even got some extra time.
This is the first 30 minute massage I’ve ever gotten that actually went over the whole body. Usually for that amount of time they’ve only focused on my poor back. Of course the masseuse could only do so much in 30 min, but here I got attention to my neck, shoulders, upper & lower back, arms, and even a brief rub down of my legs and feet. So WIN! All that for $ 26, so I can only imagine how awesome the $ 48/​hour deal must be. Will put that on my future self-​indulgence list, when this Brokelyn girl manages to cough up sufficient cash.
Also excellent pressure, technique, all that good stuff. What I was particularly jazzed about was that she took my limbs and stretched me out like a pretzel. Felt good for the tenser spots. At one point she said something to me in accented English. It sounded like, «You have nice butt. Very soft.» What? Odd, even by my totally-​okay-​with-​being-​buck-​naked-​in-​front-​of-​random-​Asian-​lady standards. «Thank you???» I said. (Somehow, sweet little fobby Asian ladies can say anything and just make it sound perfectly innocent.) About 5 minutes later it hit me that the word in question must have been «body.» As in, «you have a nice, flexible body, because I am bending you into impossible shapes and yet you’re still silent as the grave.» Ohhh.
P. S. To Asian Tui Na massage newbies… two things to take note. 1) Scared of being NAKEY? Wrong place for you! Clients strip down to their underwear for the massage. 2) This ain’t no frilly spa. Those Asian ladies like to talk (to each other, or you if you speak Chinese). If you’re looking for the tranquil silence experience, well… sorry, wrong culture.

I’ve been to Summer Day Spa four times now, each time having a different massuese. I’d highly recommend Ana or Ci Ci. There are others that are not as thorough and do not take direction well. For example, I went last night for a 60min [for $ 48 — a great deal!] massage. Ana is out sick this week, so I was paired up with a different massuese. I asked for feet to be included in the 60 minutes and all that I received was a little rub on each foot for about a minute a piece. I also asked that she focus on a certain part of my shoulders, where there clearly were knots and she kind of just passed it over. Not the best, i’d say. But on the complete opposite spectrum is Ana. I saw her back in the autumn time. She was very focused and listened to my needs. I asked for some attention to be paid to the feet and to my shoulders — she went at it on my shoulders for a good 30+ minutes and got out all of my knots and kinks. Amazing! And the foot massage was stellar as well — a good 10+ minutes [though I asked for this after the first 60 minutes]. I’ll definitely be back but only for Ana.
And the décor is pleasant — the place is definitely clean [especially compared to some of the places in Chinatown in Manhattan.] Each bed is placed between private curtains which is nice for privacy.

If you consider being mashed as massage, then you can come here for the cheap massage. I came here to be relaxed, and I ended up more stressed. There was no massage technique involved. It was just hard pressing all over. I love massages; and, I was really disappointed once the massage here started. The best cheapest massage I’ve gotten in NYC is still at Graceful Spa hands down.

Summer Day Spa is a classic Tui Na place, definitely cleaner than some I’ve been to with two massage tables to a room with thick curtains functioning as a partition. There’s dimly lit with relaxing music on the background. Oh, and the $ 48/​hr deal is pretty sweet. (there’s a surcharge if you put it on your CC)
The problem is that I got there a the appointed hour, had to wait, and it was definitely at least 10 mins past the hours when I finally started getting my massage. There were interruptions, so I figure I actually only got 45 mins.
Also, the masseuse was nice enough but clearly not enthusiastic about her job. I think she thought I was asleep (?) because she just sort of vaguely ran her hands over my legs. Even when she did seem focused, it felt like she wasn’t hitting the right spots, you know, sort of like when you make your boyfriend give you a massage.
Next time, I’d cough up more money for more attentive service with someone who has more expertise.
