Sip Fine Wine

It’s difficult to find a boutique wine shop with a large selection at reasonable prices. If a quality selection with minimal snootiness is part of the requirements, then you’ve just limited your search to a handful of locations.
Sip is a short walk away from Atlantic Terminal. You can’t miss it because there’s typically a witty sign prompting you inside– guess what? There’s always a reason for wine.
A few things set Sip apart from the rest– their selection of wines comprises a variety of varietals that can keep you experimenting with more hits consistently, and you can find great bottles for as low as $ 12. I’ve been skeptical about these frugal choices, but definitely willing to try. And it’s taught me that delicious wines come at all prices. Another part of the Sip experience important to me is the employee knowledge. It seems no matter what bottle you bring to the counter, someone there has a few tasting notes for you to take into account when you finally get home to enjoy.
I love their no-​pretense vibe to helping you pick a wine. Service is usually with a smile, similar to mine after a few Sips of my own.

I joined Unilocal just to give my fave neighborhood wine store props. The staff is friendly, knowledgable, and engaging. They know their stuff and are happy to assist in finding exactly what you want at your price point. The selection is curated yet accessible and they also save your purchases in case you forget the wine you liked. The spirits selection is top notch and super interesting as well.

This is the best wine store in the neighborhood. The guys there make really thoughtful recommendations. They’re very good at pairing, just tell them what type of food you’re making /​ordering. My guests have been impressed. I’ve learned a lot about wine just from chatting with the staff. Love this place. I’m a regular now.

Sip is my go-​to wine shop and the awesome staff members have become genuine friends. Sip has a great selection at various price points making it possible to get a solid bottle at $ 10 or a rare treat at more; i have yet to get a bad bottle of wine at Sip. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive, and a little bit of patience on your end will get you a great experience. Thank you Sip for providing a consistently positive experience and for broadening my wine horizon!

This is a great neighborhood shop with an excellent selection of wine. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and they remember what you like to help with suggestions of what you may way to try next. They also have every single white wine on the shelves available cold, and they deliver in the area! It is definitely my go to wine store.

I am completely clueless about wine. needed to impress someone so i came to to these guys for help. Nick the owner knows his stuff inside out and can even describe the way it taste. The recommendation was phenomenal these guys are great and can even deliver if you’re in the area this is my new go to spot

Arrogant staff (yes you grey haired man with a pony tail AND a quiff) — we spent $ 80 in there and grey haired man didn’t even offer us a drink of the wine he was sampling as he pushed past us with a cursory ‘Excuse Me’ to offer a glass to the man who came in behind us: so self important. I suppose if you are in the middle of so much gentrification you don’t have to make a effort or have any manners. Never again.

Best liquor store in the whole area. It’s small but elegant. It doesn’t feel dirty and sinful like most liquor stores. They sell an excellent black bottle Brand of Prosecco that is our favorite. The workers and owners here are also very knowledge in their products and make very good recommendations, after listening to their clients needs. We come here to get wine and Prosecco a lot and they are even nice enough to open up for us right as they were closing one time, so to accommodate their customers.

Good selection of affordable good wines. Staff are nice enough to provide a spare box or two if you are moving your wines.

My husband and I went with Sip Fine Wine for our wedding and they were great. I was arranging everything long distance, so the website and staff were amazing. Answered emails promptly, delivered our order to the reception and had a great selection of reasonably priced bottles. I recommend working with them. They even had our order put together a couple days before the party and when we came in looking for a couple bottles for dinner and they just gave us some from our wedding order so we could «sample,» it was fantastic.

First encounter with Sip staff was not a greeting but a grunt as he poured himself a tasting portion. I attempted to ask about a particular bottle and it became very clear that he had no idea what he was talking about. He did say that the Pax Grenache was «one of only 2 or 3 left in the world» and that the winemaker relied on winemaking techniques that no one else is using «it’s like medieval». Finally he told me that it doesn’t matter if the winery’s grapes are estate grown or sourced. Staff attitude and knowledge is a joke.

I don’t shop for wine anywhere else though there are at least 5 other wine shops within a stones throw of SIP. The staff is knowledgable, playful and insightful. They encourage experimentation and with every suggestion they continue to strike the perfect chord — every one of their wines is a unique experience — as is every visit to the shop — always entertaining.

I stopped into sip looking for something to bring to a dinner party and left with an excellent bottle that complimented the meal perfectly (wish I could remember the name). The staff is extremely knowledgeable and after explaining what we were going to be eating they suggested a couple options to chose from.
While I wasn’t familiar with many of the choices they offered, once I asked they were willing to talk me through their selections and I ended up with a delicious bottle.
Overall very friendly staff, fair prices and delicious wines, I will definitely be back soon!

This wine store earns major kudos for having such a nice staff. I have never felt more comfortable looking for a cheap, crowd-​pleasing wine… The selection is small but well-​curated. I do love wine, but know a limited amount about it — I’m happy to have found someplace where I can ask for help and have a positive experience in a generally bitchy retail sector.

Sip is a guilty pleasure of mine. Not that I would ever feel guilty for going there, but more that I might feel guilty for dropping so much coin there. I live far enough away for it to be relatively innocuous, but whenever I get the urge for a nice bottle that I know I’m not going to find at one of the other run-​of-​the-​mill or by-​the-​numbers wine shops closer to me, I take a stroll up 5^th to Sip. It’s nice and small, so the selection is navigable and accessible. I like that they have a well-​rounded offering of wines from around the world, from relatively commercial and available to the most obscure Rioja or 1er Cru Burgundy you’ve ever seen (or have never seen, for that matter!).
They don’t exactly have a bargain basement, but that’s not the niche or demographic they’re going for. All the wines are thoughtfully sourced and well chosen, and the staff that I’ve dealt with can speak directly to nearly all of them. In the rare instances when they haven’t been able to, they’ve been honest about it and tried to help me make deductions based on the region, producer and vintage. I don’t like to be bullshitted when I’m plunking down my ducats for anything, so I appreciate the straight shooting attitude of the staff. They have also made some spectacular suggestions for me, not the least of which is a German Riesling which I am absolutely obsessed with.
Overall, this is a boutique wine shop with some lesser known varietals and small producers. If you walk in and feel overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to admit it and ask them for help. If you try to describe what you like and don’t like, as well as what you think you’re looking for, I’ll bet they can help or at least give you some good suggestions. Exploring wine can be an adventure and the guys at Sip are all about that.

Great neighborhood wine shop. The people who run it are very knowledgeable. They get lots of small vineyard wines. These are usually much interesting than the wines from large vineyards that you see at most liquor stores. Last time I was in they suggested a bio-​dynamic french burgundy. It was excellent.

What do you get when you have a wine store that has a decent selection of wines and is located smack dab in a prime location in Park Slope, Brooklyn?
Expensive! Especially for wines that are stocked upright on the shelves. Wines are always supposed to be stored on their sides, so that the wine inside meets the cork and the cork doesn’t dry out.
How does an expensive wine store get it so wrong when it comes to storing wines? It’s like the local grocer who stores beer bottles on shelves along the window, clearly and unfortunately unaware that even the slightest ultraviolet light will destroy a beer (making it skunky).

The staff here is knowledgeable; a wide selection of wines at various price points. My only issue is my favorite cheapish red wine –house wine is no longer available *sob*.

I’m psyched to write the first review of Sip! A friend recommended this place when I was in town and wanted to bring some wine to a dinner party. At first, I was a little worried that it was too hipster/​yuppie-​ish (exposed brick? check.), but then they were so helpful and had a great selection of wine, I couldn’t help but love it.
Great wines (of all prices), super helpful & knowledgeable staff, and even a little tasting table. Wish I could Sip Fine Wine back home in San Francisco! :)
