Sheep Station

I’ve been going here since it opened I think, and I still really enjoy this place.
I love the rustic décor, great beer selection and a great little kitchen.
Some winners I’ve had:
That calamari app– lightly breaded with the sweet chili dipping sauce is fantastic.
Great burgers, nice beet and rocket salads, great fish & chips and mussels, great hanger steak there one time.
Solid kitchen, fun menu, cool casual atmosphere, nice staff. I’m a fan!

It was my daughter’s birthday and six of us went here to celebrate like we did last year. We have eaten here several times otherwise in the past and have always found the food to be fine enough, but we especially like the feel of the place and it’s only a few blocks away from where we live. But tonight, on a very cold night when there was not much business, we had pretty lackluster service: a vegetarian at the table ordered a vegetarian curry pie and was brought a lamb pie, and I had to order my entrée twice and was never brought it. I ended up canceling my second order because everyone else had already finished their meal and when I mentioned this to the waitress she didn’t seem to care one way or the other. This would all be fine enough and I would have chalked it up to a bad night and never thought about it twice, but then I got the bill and they decided to charge me an automatic 20% tip on the bill because we were a party of 6. This was beyond presumptuous and way too much given how subpar the service was. Places have off nights, but Sheep Station was not at all crowded and there seemed to be no reasonable explanation for why our service was so mediocre tonight. One person out of 6 got the wrong dish. Another other got no food at all. That is one third of the table not getting the food they ordered. Which seems like zero cause to warrant at $ 32 tip. If nothing else, I am almost 100% sure we will never celebrate anyone else’s birthday here. Bummer. At least my daughter had a good time. That’s the only upside.

We were looking for a brunch place on Saturday and we saw a sign outside this place that said «$ 10 Brunch». We were sold. We got a 3 egg omelette with sausage or bacon and option of fries or salad plus toast. It was a great deal for some great food! I also like that this place has a good beer list and has the option of getting half-​pint pours. This place is also close to Threes Brewing which we visited after brunch.

We were walking down 4^th Ave when the title of the place caught our attention. We only had drinks, but it was a very pleasurable experience. Shari (sp?), behind the bar, was super accommodating, letting us sample a few of the interesting drafts on tap. We eventually went with Guiness, which were served perfectly. The food we did see go out looked and smelled very good. Really nice atmosphere and very friendly personnel. Well worth your time to stop in!

Came for the brunch specials and got French toast and the egg BLT. Decidedly underwhelming and fairly pricey. $ 15 for the egg BLT, basically a $ 4 deli sandwich. Seriously. The French toast was pretty weak too. Deflated bread. Oh yeah, $ 3 cup of crap coffee too. Shoulda hit up ninth street espresso down the street beforehand. Mistakes!

Highlights:
*Whisky Sour — they made the best WS my fiancé has ever had, according to him. Made with fresh fruit juices, it took the bite out of the booze quite a bit.
*Poutine — mmmm. Fries, cheese curds and tasty, tasty beefy gravy.
*Staff — super nice people work here. The waiter found an out-​of-​the-​way place to charge our almost-​dying phones.
Lowlights:
*Bathroom — ugh. Smelled like a frat house up in hurr.
*Beer prices — they seemed extra high for no apparent reason.

Food is mediocre, beer selection is decent. Pretty slow service, and the food is not particularly Australian.

Poutine is back! The menu has been revamped, so some of my favorite items (ex: rocket salad) are gone, but as long as I can get fries with cheese curd and gravy I can handle it!

Fun little bar where the bartender has an Australian accent and very friendly. I had some strong mixed drinks that I enjoyed but didn’t have the opportunity to order or try any of the foods. It’s a spot by my cousin’s apartment that she honestly loves. I would definitely go more often if I lived in the area and not just visiting from Boston. I’ll have to go back at some point and see if their food matches their fun spot!

Their Shearer’s burger was once one of my favorites. But after 3 years, I came back and it’s changed. No more pineapple. Overcooked and burnt thin patty.
But on the plus side, they still have Maudite on tap, which is as good as I remembered.
Good place to watch sports, and there’s a big back room as well.

For years now, I’ve been told that The Shearer’s Burger is among this borough’s best. Last week, I was able to check it out. And it was A-​OK.
I love a good Aussie burger, but they appear to have toned it down. They forgot the pickled beets (rectified quickly), but apparently they don’t do the pineapple anymore, which was pretty disappointing since that was going to be the only fruit/​vegetable I ate that week. The egg was cooked well, but the burger itself was pretty standard stuff. Maybe it was an off day, but I think I would’ve preferred the lamb burger my friend got instead.
Fortunately, Sheep Station has a lot of other things going for it: a solid bloody mary, decent prices, a great back room for private parties, and fried mac and cheese balls that really could never, ever be bad.
Oh, and if you think the Sheep’s Milk is going to be a milk stout of some kind, you’re going to have a bad time. It’s more like a Yuengling. You’re welcome.

We were the only people in there… Awful service. Food was gross. Every Time I took a bite of my chicken sandwich, it smelt like cigarettes. It was a weird experience. I was only visiting, but if I lived there, I would NEVER go there again. Way too over priced as well!

I’m torn between giving this 1 or 2 stars, and am only going up to 2 because the beer was good and our waitress was friendly.
That being said, I ordered the burger medium rare, and it came out well done, under seasoned and nearly inedible. Was cooked terribly. Same with one of our guests shrimp, also rubbery and overdone. The fries tasted like they came from the frozen section of a nearby bodega. All of that I could forgive, except midway through the meal we saw a roach crawling on the wall next to our table. After that, we couldn’t get out of there fast enough.
The server was sweet and the drinks were pretty good, but the food and bug situation was enough to ruin the experience.

Great food, great atmosphere, great place to hang out and have a drink.
Sheep Station has that industrial, deconstructed, yet romantic look that’s iconic to Brooklyn. The bar is fully stocked and huge, the servers are cheery and attentive, and the music is present but doesn’t overpower conversation (a huge plus!).
The food is great! I highly recommend the burger; the fried egg really gives it that extra meaty flavor (as someone who has sometimes ordered meat with a side of meat), and the chips are crispy without being greasy. Good quality stuff. My boyfriend has the traditional meat pie with coriander chutney, which was alright. It’s what you’d expect; ground meat in a single-​serving sized pie (size of your hand), with some very welcome greens on the side. I do recommend the coriander chutney. It’s got a good spicy kick to it without being overpowering.
For drinks, so far I’ve only tried the Sheep Milk beer, which tastes rather light and refreshing for a dark lager.
Overall, I recommend it for groups or dates. It’s a fun place to hang out and chat with friends, and the food and drink is above average.

A nice Australian style gastropub on Fourth Ave. I’ve been here before for drinks or dinner, but this was the first time for brunch. I had a strong, spicy bloody Mary, which is served in a pint glass with a skewered green olive, cornichon, and caper berry. The Aussie breakfast, with bacon, lamb sausage, ham, eggs, baked beans, potatoes, and toast sounds way more gluttonous than it actually is, because the portion of black beans (not baked, but tasty) and potatoes and onions was reasonably small. (I didn’t receive the bacon on my order, but this was corrected promptly.) The ham had a nice maple flavor to it and the lamb sausage was a patty cooked perfectly medium. The toast was a nice multi-​grain nut bread, grilled. The only disappointment were the eggs, which were way overcooked.
The space itself is spacious, with a large front room and another large room down a hallway in the back. There are booths and it feels like a cozy spot, with the spare, simple design details typical of places in the area: lots of wood and steel, twine on the radiator poles, tin ceilings, wood benches, banquettes. The servers are cute and attentive, and the tv was at a volume where you could hear your friends.

What do you do after drinking way too many mimosas for brunch? Go bar hopping in Park Slope!
Okay, okay, so I’m pretty sure not everyone does that. I passed by Sheep Station on the walk back to Atlantic Avenue and decided to step inside with a friend to grab a drink. The bartender was very friendly and asked me a couple of questions about my alcohol preference, which is usually on the darker side. I ended up ordering the drink she recommended, but wasn’t a huge fan since it had too much ginger for my liking.
Overall, the ambiance is really cool, the food looked amazing (two girls next to us had ordered some burgers with salad & fries), the bartenders are great, and the prices are decent.
I would definitely go back and check out this place once more.

This is one of the many solid chill bars in the Gowanus area. I actually came here for a pseudo-​date (don’t ask) and enjoyed the Magners hard cider on tap. It seemed like a lot of people were there to watch games on TV and eat snacks, so I will have to come back and try the food to comment.

I’ve gone there a handful of times, and in all fairness will probably go back. The beer list is small but good and there is a back room which is typically quieter than the main bar area if you’re looking to have a conversation.
The food is decent, the go to is definitely the lamb burger and a few pints. The real issue with this place is the service. On multiple occasions drinks and even plates of food are totally forgotten for long periods of time and I’ve had to go up to the bar to inquire. Even on slow nights when there are only a dozen people at the bar it’s amazing how slow service can be.

Sheep Station! The name just conjures images of snuggly sheep bounding gently in the starlight across railways flanked by loamy meadows.
Too bad there’s plenty of lamb on the menu. I guess they bounded straight into the butcher’s.
Sheep Station’s theme is Australian food. We walked in because Ghenet (
) across the street was closed unexpectedly. The inside looks pretty much like any cozy yuppie gastropub — «well-​appointed,» might be the thought from the type of person who would use the phrase «well-​appointed.» At 9pm on a Monday, there were a few people at the bar nursing drinks and chatting with the bartender.
Because our original plan had been an all-​vegetarian Ethiopian dinner, I sided with the sheep and ordered a veggie burger. The patty itself (housemade?) was slightly mushy but had great flavor. Pineapple/​beet was delicious as usual, but the proportions were a little overwhelming and made the bun soggy after a minute. It’s still a solid veggie burger. Their regular burger is apparently their most popular item — maybe I missed out?
Our food took insanely long due to a large party in their back room (which has a fireplace!), but the server was apologetic and brought all 3 of us big gratin dishes full of hot fries to make up for it. Nice bonus: all burger (beef, veg, lamb) orders come with the option to add a pint of Sheep’s Milk beer for $ 2!
