Not sure what the retail location is like, but I ordered a pair of shoes from there (via the web) and 2 months later I still do not have the right shoes. The people who take care of customer service take days to get back to you, they have no idea what is going on. Each conversation was like someone had amnesia and I had to start all over with what I wanted. Finally after getting the wrong shoes twice and then no response for weeks. I called and asked for a refund. They are either understaffed, or severely incompetent.

i like to stop into this bastion of dochebaggery every once in a while strictly for the experience of seeing a bunch of grown men working in a bike store who have a holier than tho attitude… the irony is mind blowing, and never fails to crack me and my friends up.

It’s hard to see the negative reviews, mostly complaining about the staff, but I have nothing but good things to say.
I’ve been following R&A Cycles on Instagram as well as other online outlets and have seen the quality of products they carry. I’ve also been to other shops in Brooklyn where the staff has been fairly rude to me in multiple occasion and they are just a few blocks from R&A, so when it was time to find new shoes, I stopped by R&A to give them a try.
At first, the quality of parts and bikes they carry will get your attention. Top of the line brands, gorgeous bikes on display and quality all around. Looking for shoes, they carry most of the ones I was looking at except Specialized. While looking around, Alberto approached me and asked if I needed any help. He let me try a few shows, gave me options as well as telling me that new shoes would be coming in a few weeks. Not only did he help me with the shoes, he also gave me detailed information on why my current shoes might not fit properly and that it might just be that the cleats just weren’t installed properly.
To make a long story short, Alberto helped me out and even though I didn’t purchase anything, he was very cool. I’m gonna be going there soon to get a fitting with him!

Had an awful encounter at the Brooklyn Bike Jumble. I negotiated a price for a used Garmin, saddle and some chain rings. After the price was set and agreed at $ 125, I headed over to the ATM to get cash to complete the transaction. After I returned to the tent, the guy who I had been talking to was nowhere to be seen. The guy attending the booth said the other guy was «out looking around» at other tables. When I attempted to purchase the items, he said that the price is not $ 125 but rather $ 140.
While I understand that the person that agreed to the price initially may have been new or inexperienced and may have agreed upon a price that was not in the best interests of the shop, it’s poor business practice to re-​neg on a deal. Not only that, but the guy that re-neg’ed on the price was rude, unaccommodating and uncompromising. While the price difference wasn’t that large, the fact that the price was changed after it was agreed upon coupled with the guy was being completely uncompromising was enough to make me write this review and spread the word about R&A Cycles’ deceitful business practices. In short, awful customer service and deceitful business practices. Avoid at all costs.

From purchasing road bike, apparel, fittings, servicing I have never had an issue.

Left this place laughing my ass off the other day. I am in the market for a new bike in the range of $ 5,000… unfortunately the brand I was after is only available in NYC from this shop. Was happy to see they had it on the floor and ready to go.
HOWEVER.
I was told by the guy that helped me I wasn’t allowed to sit on or test ride the bike before I purchased. Not allowed to touch it without him standing over me like a hawk. NOT EVEN ALLOWED to sit on it? And no, he couldn’t order a demo bike from the company so I could try it out before purchase. That’s something pretty much every shop can and does offer in the high end bike market.
I’ll update my rating to 2 stars for the shop and zero stars for anyone who’s been crazy enough to buy a bike untested from R&A in years past.

Bad bad bad! This place is overpriced ! They charged me 200dollars for a basic tune up! Not to mention the attitude of the sales guy Alex! This guy is more interested in joking with other staff members rather than helping the customer.
In addition, I asked for the price of a 2013 frame they had in stock and they wanted 4000usd. I was able to find the same frame online for 2800usd. How does this place stay in business? I have no idea! Don’t get seduced by their selection, this place is overpriced and unfriendly.

This place now caters to the one percent, über rich yuppies of park slope buying 7 grand graphite Italian bikes so they can speed around project park and feel so so important.
It’s not the store for the regular man, avoid …

Updating my negative review, with a negative review. Main sales guy Alex is nice enough, but do you really want to drop $ 5000 on something sold by this guy? He’s kind of a crackpot. He strangely jokes around with the employees and acts like he’s 2 years old. Also he seems like he’s got a really nasty temper.
You want to drop $ 5k or $ 10k on a bike from this guy? Sid’s Bikes is way better. And the sales people there are actually mature and professional.

Felix was beyond helpful and encouraging. I’m completely new to road bikes. I had previously told by REI that their bikes wouldn’t fit me. Felix told me that they didn’t know what their talking about, did his own measurements, and taught exactly how to go to any bike shop and exactly the geometry that would work for me.
I normally don’t write Unilocal reviews. I’ve only written one before. But Felix deserves it. Even after telling him that I live in LA and would buy a bike there, he still took an hour of his time to patiently educate me.

After many years of riding a single-​speed, I decided to join the ranks of the geared. New York City loves to ride, and a cyclist has many shops from which to choose. So, I asked a fellow enthusiast for a recommendation, and he sent me here.
Around town, some bike shops show the same snark as hipster record shops and comic book stores. I’ve seen employees sneer at questions, laugh at people’s bikes, and get pissed if you bring in one bought somewhere else. Not here. None of those things.
Alberto spent two hours answering my questions, teaching me while he fitted me into the road bike that (yes) I did happen to buy somewhere else. And if you’re going to buy a nice bike — please — do yourself a favor and get fitted. What a professional Alberto is; he even identified a hip misalignment that a podiatrist, orthopod, and physiatrist all missed, then adjusted my shoes and pedals to fix it. I learned a great deal from him.
Everyone there is a pleasure. Felix provided knowledge and humor. And Aldo is both welcoming and generous. I interacted with well over six people in my time there, and everyone was courteous and outgoing.
From now on, R&A Cycles is my bike shop. And if they have branded jerseys, I will definitely be buying one to represent. They made me feel like family.

Read the reviews and always believe that I am not special, which means that I’ll have the same experience. Well, really have to say that I had a good one. Phil took care of me via email and when I went to the store to pick up my bike, Felix really continued the great customer service. The team really helped me understand some of the nuances to properly fit my bike so am planning to return for a more formal fitting.
Oh, and they often have great online deals.

Been in here few times and to be honest I have never had an issue with anybody, I’ve been always help by somebody. Sorry for those who said the opposite !

Return customer — worked with Felix before. I called them up to see if they could unpack my bike that I shipped from the left coast. They said they could turn it around the same day if I brought it in early enough. Other shops nearby required several days to do the job!
So I brought my Felt bike in and Felix again took care of me. He let me observe and work with the mechanic to make sure the bike was reassembled to my specifications. I was impressed with the care he put into it, and he used exactly the right tools and made all the proper adjustments to make sure the shifting and cycling computer worked properly. The labor charge was about a half to a third the cost of other NYC bike shops that deal with Felt, even though the bike essentially needed to be reassembled from the bare frame. About 2 hours to turn around the bike, including the time it took for me to get some Gorilla coffee across the street. ;)
They also called a car to help me get my bike/​bag back to the hotel, at a great rate no less (large cabs are hard to come by there). Felix also took the time to see me on my way with a handshake, a joke and a smile.
Great service way beyond even my higher expectations, given my previous experience with the shop. Keep up the good work!

I have been shopping here and servicing my high end triathlon bikes as well as my daily commuter fixie for years. The mechanics always do top quality work within reasonable time.

I saw that this place had a two star review and thought that wasn’t fair.
It’s a one star place.
It’s awful.
Been here a few times and each and every time I’ve had at least two (and as many as five) employees all standing behind the counter refusing to help me.
Truly horrible, horrible people and Ride Brooklyn, just around the corner is fantastic. Go there.

I give them a 3 because I love the bikes in here. They do have the most beautiful bikes for sale in Brooklyn.
I don’t like the attitudes of any of the people I have spoken with. They are distracted and opinionated at the same time. They don’t know me from Adam but treated me like I didn’t know the difference between a crown race and a bottom bracket.
I always ask bike stores if they have any used or discounted parts because I build my bikes myself. They have some great parts lying around so it’s worth coming back here for that.

I am considering purchasing a Pinarello Rokh and R&A is one of the very few dealers for this brand. After reading horrible reviews regarding services of R&A, I’d decided to give it a shoot and walked into the store to check out the bike in person. Stood there for a good 15 minutes and ignored by employees who seemed to be just standing around and chatting with others. Will I spend $ 4,000 buying a great bike at R&A? Very unlikely. Negative reviews have their merits.
I ended taking my business to danny s cycle who provides better customer service for beginners and enthusiasts not just pros

Went to this place yesterday to get a flat fixed. The counter guy, who looked like the owner or at least the manager told me it was $ 15 for a new tube. No prob. I then made the mistake of asking him to replace the rear tire that was significantly more worn than the front – $ 30 for this tire out the door – no prob. Should be $ 45, sans tax. I watch him tell the mechanic in spanish to do exactly what I ask, then I step outside for 20min…
When I return I ask the salesman if the repairs are done and he said «no», and that he’s having both tires replaced. Umm, isn’t that my decision, being that it’s my bike and I’m paying for it? I didn’t argue because well, I kind of agreed that both tires should be done at the same time, plus I knew immediately that this was going to get ugly and I was with a friend with a schedule to keep.
Once I get rung up it’s around $ 90; two tires ($ 30/​ea), one tube ($ 15) and $ 10 labor (which was supposed to be included, or at least implied – that’s what ‘out the door’ means).
Fuck these assholes. There’s plenty of bike shops in BK – nothing worse than supporting a used car lot.
