Pawsitive Veterinary

Just a quick note to let everyone know how the practice is set up to extract unnecessary money from clients. I adopted a dog a couple weeks ago, and have all relevant paperwork associated. My puppy is required to receive his next booster & I therefore called to make the appointment for this. The guy I spoke with on the phone, put me on hold and after speaking with the vet, came back on the phone to tell me that they cannot just do the shot without the annual wellness visit. ($ 56) I told him that this wasn’t necessary as I only needed the shot at this time… for which he responded that they would not administer a shot unless they «got to know the dog first at the wellness visit».
This is extremely unacceptable… and bad practice. You cannot FORCE a client to choose a service that is unrequired and not needed.
*It would be like going to the dentist for a cavity filling — and them saying «we can’t do the filing without getting to know you first by doing a cleaning».

This place has been going downhill since I started taking my dog here three years ago. There is always a long wait even with an appointment, and they usually only see you for about 10mins while you waited over half an hour.
One appointment I waited 20 mins in the appointment room and came out to check, only to find out they actually forgot we were there!
Another time the vet tech almost anally checked my dogs temperature without lubricating the thermometer.
I also needed to a get a rabies vaccination certificate in order to take my dog with me across the Canadian border for vacation. The certificate requires the trade name of the vaccine. They only had «canine rabies booster» written, and when I asked them to add the trade name, there was a whole confusion about records being lost/​not updated. They said they would give me a new tag instead, so when I went back the second time to get the certificate, it was still same. They ended up ripping the label off the vaccine vial and sticking it on the form. Really hope they toss that vial or relabel it in some way.
Overall the place has become very unprofessional. I plan on changing vets. Hopefully they can transfer the vet records without any issue since they’re records don’t seem to be updated or properly documented.

I have been coming here for a little over a year. I have been through many vets before and always felt like the vet was either overcharging me for things I didn’t need or they didn’t care about my dog.
Pawsitive vets is the total opposite. From the first time I took my dog there everyone was so nice and kind and patient (my dog is a nut), from the receptionist to the vet techs to the vet themselves.
I never really have a particular vet I go to here just because they are all amazing. Recently I called in a panic about my dog — she ate dark chocolate; Dr. Chilla got on the phone with me and helped me get through the ordeal. I cannot thank her enough. Any other vets office would have told me to bring her in ASAP so they can charge me a fee but not Pawsitive.

Dr. Perry is amazing! I recently discovered my young Dobie is affected by two mutated copies of a potentially serious bleeding disorder. Oh no! I wanted to get him neutered. Before I had my appointment, Dr. Perry called me directly and chatted for 20 minutes about my concerns related to his disease and a neutering surgery. She totally put me at ease — cheerful, but honest, and very clear about the pros/​cons of moving ahead. I came in for our first appointment, were seen right away, wham/​bam, had tests/​vaccines/​etc. taken care of. This is probably the most pleasant experience I’ve ever had with a vet.

Pawsitive Veterinary is my neighborhood vet and I’m so glad I can say that. My big furbaby and I have been coming here for several years at this point, mostly for routine checkups and shots, but late last year we had to deal with several really difficult superbugs that plagued my poor boy for months. We’re not sure how he got them, but thanks to Dr. Perry and the rest of the Pawsitive staff we managed to avoid scary liver-​damaging treatments and instead fought off the superbugs through a course of antibiotic medication and weekly visits that spanned a couple of months. Having spent so much time at the clinic I feel it’s important that anyone considering coming here know that Dr. Perry is super awesome, as is the vet tech staff.

This place is great. I took my two Maltese in to get a check up and updated shots since we just moved to the neighborhood. The vet techs and Dr. Perry were sweet and patient with them. They do get very busy on Saturdays though! It’s best to make an appointment during the week.

I chose this place because of location and their very decent prices… but I would never take advice from this vet… pet parents please educate yourselves or vets will recommend a bunch of unnecessary procedures !! Had to really stand my ground to tell this vet that I do not want to pump my pup full of poisonous vaccines… she even asked if I want to give a then 3 month old pup a rabies vaccine! Smh!!!

They don’t even deserve a star my cat has been put down today because she had cancer which has taken over ¹⁄₃ of her body and it was too late to help her mind you I’ve taken her to pawsitive veterinary two weeks ago and she didn’t know what was wrong with her we’ve been back and forth at this vet for about 3 year because my cat is always throwing up her answer was a sensitive stomach. The animal hospital we brought her to yesterday are wondering how she didn’t notice something so obvious. If you value your pets life take them to an animal hospital even for the smallest thing. Unfortunately it’s to late for my car and I’ll never forgive them.

What a difference three and a half years make…
I stand by what I said originally, but that was when it was just Dr. Perry seeing my pets and Zorayda was the main (if not the only) receptionist. Now, I’m kind of forced to see whomever is available since Dr Perry’s availability has changed. And if Zorayda’s not in the office there’s no telling what type of service you’ll get because these other ladies make really silly mistakes, don’t answer the phone and/​or don’t follow directions well.
I am no longer able to book appointments online, the snacks and coffee are no more and the waiting room triage doesn’t seem to be provided anymore. I have no idea who these new techs are, it seems like a new staff each time I visit; I’m pleasantly surprised when I see a familiar face. Also, the visits now seem rushed after waiting over 30 minutes to be seen most times and I’m starting to feel nickeled & dimed. I probably would have moved on to another vet practice if it weren’t for the history and for Zorayda and her upbeat efficient front office. I can at least still get an appointment sooner than later if I call and parking is still plenty easy despite all the filming going on in the area.
I’m grateful for the years of quality affordable care I got in the beginning when I had to go frequently for my 2 cats and my young dog. Now that I’m just down to my little dog (one cat died, the other moved to Florida with my ex), I only go every 4 – 6 months for booster shots.
I’m still a fan, but knowing how it was before, I feel It’s just not what it used to be.

My dog still twitches and I still wouldn’t advise anyone to send there dog here. Too bad I’m forced to at least give one star.

Made and appointment and went in for a rabies vaccine. When I called back a week later so I can get the rabies tag and certificate, they told me that my dog actually had received a vaccine for kennel cough. This was shocking especially because I told the vet assistant that I did not want anything else but the rabies shot. And when they gave my dog an ORAL treatment, I asked again if that is the rabbies vaccine because it is normally a shot. The vet assured me that it was.
So really, don’t understand how this happened. The vet assistant eventually gave my dog the correct vaccine free of charge. But when I went in, the vet completely ignored me and did not even come to apologise.
If you have a choice, go somewhere else.

I was referred here by a friend. I love Dr. Perry and Dr. Chilla-​smith. They are super awesome. I do think they need to train their front desk people a little better, as there is always confusion regarding appts, meds etc. My only gripes are that it is not that close to my house, but it is a great vet. It can also be hard to get an appointment, however they have friendly vet techs and prices are ok.

Great Vet! The place was clean, warm and cozy. The staff was knowledgeable and the wait was not too long. Visit was a little expensive but it’s worth the great service.

Going to a new vet is always a little nerve racking but the tech and vet taking care of my pup were very knowledgeable and asked lots of questions. A previous «diagnosis» was actually examined and turned out to be much less serious. And the price for the exam and vaccines was very reasonable. We’ll be back!

Phoned yesterday (a Thursday) at 6:30PM to try and request to have my cats’ records sent to a different practice. According to their website, they’re open until 8PM on Thursdays; however, I sat on an automated hold (elevator music, followed by a voice recording stating that «someone will be right with you») for over 20 minutes. One of my cats seems sick, and since I don’t feel like waiting 2 weeks for an appointment at Pawsitive, it would be nice to be able to have the records sent to a new doctor that is able to see patients sooner. I guess this type of request takes weeks as well.

I still believe the doctors and techs are great, but I can no longer bring my cats to this practice. Pawsitive never seems to have same day appointments for clients with somewhat urgent matters.
Today I called to try and get a same day appointment for my cat, a patient at Pawsitive. It wasn’t an emergency like he stopped breathing or anything, but he did begin displaying some urinary type issues this morning, and my experience with cats has taught me not to wait around when an UTI rears its ugly head. I phoned Pawsitive in the morning and the rather apathetic receptionist informed me she could absolutely NOT fit me in today. She then explained that the doctor would need a urine sample before anything could be diagnosed (yes, that’s right, I was informed by reception to obtain a urine sample from a cat that can’t pee in the first place) so I should just go ahead and drop one off and await the results. When I asked again if there was any chance he could be seen today, that I felt it was an urgent matter, the receptionist stated that Pawsitive is «not an ER!»… yea no kidding, but it is a practice that should be able to see its clients for common ailments like UTIs on a same day basis.
Lovely receptionist did go out of her way to give my phone number to the doctor in the office. The doctor did call me an hour or so later, but I was unable to answer my phone since I had taken my cat to VERG by that point. Luckily, I caught his symptoms early enough and he will likely recover at home with medications. Twenty-​four hour hospitalization is a reality with some UT disorders, so I’m glad I didn’t just wait around until Pawsitive could squeeze me in.
I have grown up with animals all of my life and have been a client at multiple veterinary practices throughout the years, and not once have I ever been denied a same day sick visit until I started coming to Pawsitive. In fact, last year my dog (a patient at PHAH) also experienced UT difficulties and PHAH had no problem at all giving us a same day appointment. Stop accepting new clients if you have too many. A patient should be treated as a priority, not an inconvenience.

Dr. Chilla is the most passionate veterinarian I have had the pleasure of speaking with. My dog was having ongoing stomach issues, and she generously volunteered her time to help us. We give her two paws up ;)

A friendly and professional office. The staff does a great job with your pet. I have taken my dog here for two appointments and I am always more nervous than she is. The staff does a great job of explaining everything from start to finish. The fact there are no long waits is also a plus, I am usually seen within 10 minutes of my appointment time. Wonderful establishment!

I recently went through the difficult experience of finding out that my 4-​year old cat had developed a very rapidly spreading cancer, having to put him to sleep at far too young an age.
As traumatic as this experience has been, I absolutely could not have asked for a better vet and staff to have proceeded through this with. I worked primarily with Dr. Perry but even when she was on her day off, Dr. Chilla was just as attentive. Their recommendations were always with my best interests at heart, they periodically checked in, and they showed both me and my animal exceptional compassion. Everyone on the staff is phenomenal, and although I am one of many patients, both Dr. Perry and Dr. Chilla remembered each and every detail about my animal’s situation.
As someone who has had cats and dogs my entire life, I could not more highly recommend Pawsitive Veterinary. I will continue to go to this office for as long as I live in NYC.

So we have three cats and came here for getting them spayed, vaccinations, and a few checkups.
Its been said many times on here, but I’ll say it again– reception staff is bad. They are unclear in their paper work, bad at keeping records. We have been overcharged, had reception staff change their minds about what something cost– once, when I was asked to come back later with a stool sample, they had no record at all of it being asked for, and I had to stand around waiting for them to figure out what to do with it.
When one of my cats got fixed, they also refused to put the cone on her before she left, leaving us to try and deal with a very disturbed and drugged cat at home, in danger of ripping out her own stitches.
Theres also a tendency to be opaque about how much services cost, and to try and upsell services that you don’t need, but to leave out services that we do need.
When we decided to change vets and go to the newly opened (and great) Alison Animal Hospital
they refused to send pet records over to them after being asked more than once to do so. Once they finally sent in records, it became apparent that they never gave any of our cats the FIV test. When asked why this was, they had no answer… which is unfortunate, because as it turns out, one of my cats has it, and will require specific health considerations that I really would have liked to know about earlier. No explanation.
I’m really happy this new place opened closer to where we live, because I don’t plan on coming back here.

It is odd to write a review about your most beloved pet dying. However it is the care that was given and the concern that followed, makes me write this today. My elderly dog had come to the end of his life and I knew it to be true. I was given options, we all knew there were no real options, but the options that were given were a kindness that should I feel to keep him suffering at least I knew I did not have to let go. However I am of the mind that pain without reprieve is wrong. Dr. Belvedere was kind and compassionate. No one rushed me and all arrangements were taken care of swiftly before his euthanization.
I would have felt better had the room been sound proof, as animals in the waiting area do make noises and if the place that did the cremations had sent his ashes back a little quicker. But this is nit picking on my behalf as I have taken no bad memories his death.

Dejen les cuento un pokito mi anecdota, hace un par de meses cuando mi chihuahua se enfermo estaba muy preocupado yo sabia k tenia k llevarla al veterinario pero no sabia a cual asi k me di a la tarea de investigar en internet asi fue como llegue a Unilocal y despuesm de leer los reviews me decidi x hacer una cita en este maravilloso lugar: D cuando llegue a PAWNSITIVE me sentia un poco nervioso pues mi ingles no es muy bueno pero cuando la recepcionista me recibio fue muy amable aparte k habla espanol despues vino la ayudante de la veterinaria a tomar mi informacion ella tambien fue muy amable y aunk ella solo habla ingles pudimos comunicarnos perfectamente posteriormente vino la Dra. Perry kien es x cierto un angel cuando de tratar animales se trata me gusto mucho la manera en k le hizo un chekeo exahustivo a mi pekenita despues la Dra. me explico claramente lo k mi chihuahua tenia y cuales eran las opciones del tratamiento y me ayudo a elegir lo k ella pensaba el tratamiento mejor (k tambien era el mas barato) al final decidi el tratamiento y me dieron las medicinas k necesitaba y la Dra. se despidio con una gran sonrisa y chan chan chan chan era el momento macabro jejejejjeje la hora de pagar y k creen…
ohh sorpresa el bill era x debajo del precio k yo pense k iba a pagar asi k al final del dia sali ganando pues trataron a mi pekenita como a una reyna y ami me trataron como a un rey.
De mas esta decir k mi pekena chihuahua se curo de su enfermedad a los pocos dias y ahora mi familia y yo estamos felices con nuestra perrita y estamos inmensamente agradecidos con todo el staff de PAWNSITIVE especialmente con la Dra. Perry muchisimas gracias y de ahora en adelante prometemos serles fieles: D
