Palma Chemist

I just passed Palma Chemists and saw that it had closed. I am heartbroken. Frank was a most wonderful person; kind, friendly and helpful. He called me by my name for the last 18 years. I felt connected to the neighborhood because of him. Somehow, it feels like the final nail in the coffin of old Park Slope. Thank you Palma, you made a difference.

So I moved from Park Slope to Crown Heights and I am still fiercely loyal to these guys and travel back at least once a month to get all my prescription medicine needs taken care of by them.
Everyone working here is incredibly kind, knowledgable and works hard to make sure that you feel well taken care of.

The people working here are not knowledgeable about the products they carry. They had to Google it when I asked them about Visine. If you don’t know your own products, you don’t belong there.

These guys are so nice. They are always friendly to my dog, and give her treats. They can order whatever you need if they don’t have it in stock. You will never be treated this nicely at Duane Reade or CVS. These guys are the best!

The best ever! Super friendly, and they go *way* beyond the call of duty when dealing with doctors and insurance companies. I would never, ever go anywhere else.

I lived in Brooklyn for 10 years and recently made the move to ‘the burbs’, sadly leaving Park Slope for good. Like a lot of people, we always went places and, good or bad, said we were going to leave a Unilocal review for such-​and-​such business. Never did.
So why is my first Unilocal review ever a review of a pharmacy in an area that I no longer live? It’s probably because the people that work at Palma are perhaps the nicest people I have ever met. They always welcomed me & my wife with a smile and got to know our names much sooner than I would have ever expected possible.
Park Slope has a ton of amazing local businesses, but most of the other ‘neighborhood’ pharmacies great you with a dour face and inconsistent service. Not at Palma! Time after time, they went out of their way regarding prescriptions and even special ordered a little 1.99 gadget that went out of stock one time.
The place isn’t huge, but they have at least one brand (and often more) of everything you might need over-​the-​counter or for the household. Make sure to check their hours, because they are not always open. Closed on Sunday, but that never mattered, because the way these folks worked, they definitely deserved a day off!
So good, I even consider from time-​to-​time making the journey back to BK just to have a prescription filled. What pharmacy can do that?!?

Home sick, feeling miserable, needed prescription filled. Had never been here before. Called in — a total stranger to them — and they were kind, thoughtful, patient and provided perfect service. My md phoned in the scripts, they called to be sure I was home, and delivered the meds promptly. I feel so fortunate!

Here I am in Park Slope visiting my son and his family and I have a painful sinus infection flare up and must fly home in two days. Before calling my doctor in CA, I looked online for nearest pharmacy and there was Palma straight up Garfield Place
where my son lives! Literally within minutes after getting my doctor’s call the prescription was filled… half an hour at the most. Amazing! I so wish that I could take the entire place home with me! Love Brooklyn! Love Park Slope! Love Palma Chemist!

Everyone here is so nice! The pharmacy was helpful, friendly, and super-​fast. I love it here, and I love that it’s homey and not a big, corporate chain.

For years, my wife has been bothering me to break up with the large drug stores where I get my prescriptions filled. She is constantly telling me I am nuts for going to Walgreens, CVS, etc. and getting the run around on my medications. She has high standards for customer service, and I have never heard her gush like she does about the folks at Palma. I finally tried Palma and today, my second visit, I had an experience that shows how they distinguish themselves as superior service providers as my wife contends. I have a doctor who runs a mill that I must see for medication and getting to see him or getting a renewal scripts is often a nightmare. When I called Palma today to see if my doctor could fax over an overdue prescription, the pharmacist insisted on following up with my doctor to make sure I got my script filled because I was concerned that my doctor’s office would not be responsive. Palma called my doctor and, indeed, they were unwilling to fax over a script. No kidding, she spent at lease a ½ hour of her day tracking down someone in my doctors office willing to schedule me for an appointment immediately. In fact, when she got my doctor’s call service the first time she called, she made such a stink that they directed her to the secretary who had flicked on the «call service» button to avoid having to schedule any more appointments this afternoon. Thanks to the pharmacist, my doctor’s office CALLED ME to schedule the appointment this afternoon. I got my script against the odds and when I called Palma to thank the pharmacist, I confessed that I had to fill the script elsewhere for convenience. Her response, «Not a problem, as long as you have your medication.» Now that’s customer service.

Got to BK a little earlier than my scheduled date with a friend, and my seasonal allergies were acting up like crazy, so walked into Palma to get some meds.
I talked to two different individuals here, and they were SO friendly! The older gentleman pretty much memorized the entire store and where everything was located. Very impressed with the selection of allergic meds here. I stood there for a good ten minutes before deciding which one would work best. Mind you, I had NO idea I had seasonal allergies until moving out to NYC, so this was a big deal.
This would be my regular go-​to place if I lived in the neighborhood. I left feeling so welcomed!

This place is now called «Palma Chemist,» not «United Drugs.» But most importantly, they still have a Notary Public, and it’s still cheap and easy. But he’s not there all the time, so call ahead to make sure he’s there.

The folks at Palma Chemists are the best! They go above and beyond to be helpful and courteous… and to remember your name. They should write a book on good customer service in business.
They are the complete opposite of the nasty folks at the Prospect Gardens pharmacy on Union Street.

It’s like «Cheers» whenever I go in there… everybody knows your name. I like that. Frank is the nicest guy around, you can count on him to always be helpful attentive and cheerful can anyone say that about Rite Aid or CVS.

Why do I love Palma? Because everyone there is so friendly and beyond helpful. It’s right before the holidays and I’m out of a medication I can’t go without. I called Palma and Martin is going to get in touch with my doctor for a refill so I have one less thing to worry about. I have enough to worry about these days and they are such a big help. I started using them when I lived in the neighborhood but even though I moved to Crown Heights I still make the trip to Palma. Love these guys!

I love Palma Chemists. They are my local pharmacy and I know everyone there and they all know me. They’re always friendly, helpful and fast. They also deliver. I feel grateful to have such a great pharmacy in the neighborhood.

I have walked into this place a few times and wondered who get’s their prescriptions filled here? Not me. But I did use their notary services and they were great. As a former Notary of the awesome State of Florida, I have a lot of respect for this Pharmacist/​Notary who took time to tend to his strung out customers and me. I was not strung out. but the lady taking off her shoes and counting every single percocet sure looked like she was. Anyhow, do call ahead and make sure the friendly notary guy is there, because he told me he only works certain nights and I was not paying attention to what he said… but if you need something notarized, they are cheap and they have a small selection of other self-​care products that may or may not have expired sometime in the last 10 years.

Nice, courteous, reliable pharmacists who have been in the neighborhood for years. They will actually come out from behind the counter and talk to you about any medications and health insurance issues. As a Park Slope native, it’s nice to know some things stay the same.

We needed a prescription filled, and no one had it in stock. Many of the big chains even said they have no idea when they would get it in stock again. So we stopped into Palma, and the nice owner/​pharmacist was so friendly and helpful. He searched for the meds and found a place that had them. Four days later (only that long because of the holiday weekend) and we had the medicine.
Make sure when you stop in to say hi to Sam the cat. Big, fat, furry and friendly feline that wanders around the store. Obviously a bit of a local celebrity because people kept coming in, getting their orders and saying «Hi Sam». I love supporting local stores, and this one proved yet again why they are so important to neighborhoods. When the big chains failed, they came through!
