History
Established in 1909.
In 1909, Dutch immigrant Peter Christian Richard (P.C.) opened a hardware store in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. That same year, his son Alfred J. Richard (A.J.) was born. A.J. grew up in the business, and when he was 6 years old started assisting his father around the store. In 1924, A.J. decided to expand the hardware store’s inventory to include the electric iron… marking the beginning of the appliance business for P.C. Richard & Son.
By the 1930s, the store’s inventory increased even more to include toasters, ranges, washers, refrigerators, and radios. To ensure customers would always be satisfied, A.J. established the P.C. Richard & Son Service Department to service and repair what they sold.
The company is now operated by the fourth and fifth generations of the Richard family, has 66 Superstores, bridges 2 centuries, and still embraces the principles it was built on… Honesty, Integrity and Reliability.
Meet the Business Owner
Gregg R.
Business Owner
Now operated by the fourth and fifth generations of the Richard family, the President, Gregg Richard, grew up watching his father and grandfather survive a challenging economy while watching many other businesses in their vertical disappear. Although others continue to push into P.C. Richard & Son’s territory, Gregg and the company continue to thrive and are reminded to keep doing what they’ve been doing successfully for many generations: focus on the customer, offer good prices and the best service, and most importantly, live up to the promise that «Richard IS Reliable.»
