Optoid is the first eye care practice in the country that 3D designs and uses 3D printing to create custom prescription eyewear in our own Williamsburg, Brooklyn office. We proudly include ‘Made in Brooklyn’ on our 3D printed frames and feature our own line of Brooklyn-​style eyewear available for order online and in office as well. Optoid also provides medical eye exams, contact lens fittings, and eye emergency services on weekends.

Our office contains numerous other unique features in addition to the 3D printer including a 6 foot palludarium, a large chalkboard wall, and a range of medical testing equipment. History

Established in 2015.

We began as an idea to create a new type of patient experience never before seen at any eye doctor’s office: create our own brand of virtual eyewear that can be customized on our computers to match our patients’ faces which we then 3D print, hand-​finish, and insert premium prescription lenses all within our Williamsburg, Brooklyn location. We proudly display Made in Brooklyn on our custom eyewear and celebrate the Brooklyn culture. On our website, myop​toid​.com, our patients and others can also purchase our own brand of Brooklyn-​style eyewear.

We accept most health insurances and recommend that you make an appointment either over the phone or on our website unless you have a medical eye emergency in which case we can accept you as a walk-​in.

Dr. James K.

Business Owner

Dr. James Kim is the creator and founder of Optoid. He is a NY State licensed optometrist and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a rare distinction less than 10% of practicing optometrists hold. Dr. Kim is a graduate of Duke University and SUNY College of Optometry and had a case report presented at the Southeastern Conference of Optometry. He strongly believes the eyewear customization process begins with a face to face medical eye exam to ensure the health of the eye before measurements are taken to ensure a good fit. He also fits contact lenses, diagnoses and treats various eye conditions including glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy, provides weekend emergency eye care, and sees patients ages 3 and up.
