I was shocked on so many levels. The photos of the hotel entrance must have been taken long ago. There is a faded sign over a door. There are shuttered businesses on both sides, The parking lot is full of garbage and graffiti. I suppose I was stupid to think that you could find a normal hotel for under 100 $ in New York. When you open the door, you will think that you are part of a Law and Order episode. The front desk has bullet proof glass, however. The owners are immigrants trying to make it here. The rooms were very clean. My daughter and I had to watch for the men in just their underwear walking to the shared bathroom. I saw other families that had seen the photos and thought that this hotel was safe. The online photo’s do not tell the truth about this hotel, other than the rooms are clean and kept up.

This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had and I’ve been to a hood hotel before but this topped them all. The two female employees I encountered, during my 1 night stay, were very professional and courteous. Their attitudes made me feel welcome and initially the room I paid for made me feel the same way… that is until I realized the cable was out of service. Well it was in service, just not in the room I paid for. The screen read something about entering an access code in order for the channels to be broadcast and a channel scan. My partner notified the lady on duty and she had no idea what to do. In fact, she said she never seen anything like that happen before!!! Some man who I guess works there also tried to fix the problem but to no avail. He wasn’t too happy about assisting us and I knew that once he grumbled something about how fixing the service wasn’t his job. He could hardly see the buttons on the remote and she couldn’t either. He mentioned that he didn’t have his glasses so she offered him her glasses. I personally think it’s a bad idea to use other people’s glasses because the prescriptions are most likely different. (But that’s none of my business… sitting like Kermit the frog with my legs crossed while drinking tea). It seemed like things were worsening by the minute. There was a message on the screen that told us to call a number in order to get the access code but these people acted like it was invisible. So I took it into my own hands to call the number. Bada Bing, bada bang and I had the access code that simple. I was thinking why didn’t these people just call the darn number themselves. Once I entered the code, I was able to run the channel scan but no channels were found. Blah, no surprise there. I thought the lady on duty had caught on to the number on the screen when I saw her start dialing away on the phone but she was calling who I assumed to be a manager. Apparently there was a couple in the room beside us but they decided to leave. For what reason, I honestly don’t know. If I had to guess though, I’d probably say it was because there was no hot water in that bathroom. Why would I assume that? How do I know for sure? Well I know there wasn’t hot water because I was offered the opportunity to utilize both rooms and I did. The room I paid for was the deluxe bedroom (door #6) but the television wasn’t broadcasting channels. The other room (door #3) had a working tv w/​cable service but guess what was missing? If you answered «hot water» you’re a genius!!! The bedrooms were made up nicely but the temperatures were cold. Bedroom #3 had a remote for the air conditioner but #6 didn’t. The soap had a nasty odor to it. There are no mini refrigerators to store away your food /​drinks. The ceiling had mold on it in some areas and it looked as if someone had tried to peel away the roof but stopped. There were black spaces in the ceiling because of that and I think stuff was falling onto the blanket in bedroom #6 because I kept seeing these little hard, tan things. If that stuff wasn’t from the ceiling then it must’ve been the blanket releasing its own alien substances. I had a hard time charging my phone because the outlets seem as if they’re caved in to the point where it’s impossible to plug anything in without it falling back out. I had to plug my charger into the extension cord that the tv was plugged into. Actually that’s proof that the outlets are caved in. That’s why they needed that extension cord. There were towels and washrags in room #6 but none in bedroom #3 because the lady on duty rushed to make up the bed so we could watch the tv w/​working cable service. We had to take the towels and washrags from bedroom #6. The showers were cramped or I’ll just say I wouldn’t recommend taking a shower with your mate at this place. Not unless you want the water beating in at least one of your faces or you’re just going to point the shower head toward the entrance of the shower which would soak the floor. They did have a 24 hour self service area where you could make coffee and hot tea though. This hotel is off of Broadway avenue, slightly around the corner. There appears to be a buzzer at the entrance but I was able to just push open the door. When I got to the front desk, I had to ring the bell. This tells me that security needs to be tightened at this establishment. The lady on duty told me that it was okay to close the door downstairs which led to our 2 for 1 price bedrooms because then one would be less curious to go down there. We made sure to lock the door of whichever room we decided to stay in though. Point blank if you’re just looking to bang someone and you don’t care for amenities and décor, this is perfect.

Neptune Hotel is a gritty hostel in a borderline sketchy area, but you know what? My husband and I really enjoyed our time there, and we never felt unsafe. It gave us an opportunity to explore more than just the touristy areas of New York. The lady who checked us in/​out was very friendly and the process was very quick and easy. The location is great — in between the Bedford-​Stuyvesant/​Bushwick neighborhoods of Brooklyn and only a few blocks from the Halsey Street metro stop. There’s also a handful of convenient places nearby, such as Rite Aid, Dunkin Donuts and Popeye’s. As long as you know what you’re getting into, go for it. Would book again — this place has character.

Great place at a great price. Those negative reviews are very old. The owner lady is amazing! I love her!

Ummm… omg!!! This is the hood hotel… I mean wtf… from the squeezing hallway to get to your room which makes you feel like a Texas chainsaw massacre scene. …dont do it dont go there unless you really trying to hide that Becky from your main chick:-)

Oh my. Where do I begin??? I truly feel sorry for the out-​of-​towner that finds this place on the Internet, and knows not what they have stumbled upon. If you are a drug dealer, crackhead or prostitute, then this place might feel just like home to you. If you are a normal person, STAY AWAY!!! I don’t have any idea how this place is still allowed to operate. I called one night because I was curious, and this is how the convo went:
Me: Hello, what are your nightly rates?
Neptune: Who are you?
Me: I saw the hotel on the Internet and just wanted to know what your rates are.
Neptune: Where are you coming from?
Me: Jersey. I’m sorry, do you have any vacancies?
Neptune: Yes
Me: And what are your rates?
Neptune: $ 75 per night (laughs)
Me: OK then, I will come on down.
Neptune: (laughs) Good luck.
Me: Thank you bye.
Neptune: Bye (laughs)
Apparently you need luck to stay at the Neptune. I itch looking at the place. NEVER, I repeat, NEVER stay at this establishment!!!
